I think England will be a little disappointed. They were too sides of the wicket before lunch and now a little wayward.
It is liquorice all sorts at the moment.
Elgar 29, Erwee 30
Just as Potts seemed to be building a bit of pressure on Elgar with a pair of good 'uns to start the over, the second of which sees Elgar prodding at thin air, he lets the South African off the hook with a wide long hop.
Elgar puts it away for four before adding three next ball with a solid drive. Erwee then clips nicely through mid wicket for another boundary - 11 from an over that started so brightly for England.
Two from the first ball of Broad's latest brings up the fifty partnership between Erwee and Elgar. It's just the start South Africa would have wanted.
A strangled appeal comes a couple of balls later as Foakes takes it down the leg side. Nothing doing, the ball just brushed the thigh pad on the way through.

Just seen the cricket score. It seems Stokes' pre-match boast is up there with Tony Greg's in 1976. Do your talking on the pitch!

It's a good five from Potts after that boundary first up. There's more bounce from just back of a length and the ball comes off Erwee's inside edge, onto the thigh pad and loops away to a region where a short leg would have gobbled it up.
Elgar is then beaten outside off by a touch of seam movement. I said it before and I'll say it again, there is still something in this pitch for the bowlers.

That four was the fourth boundary in nine balls.

This is a worrying passage of play for England after lunch.
Driven firmly back down the ground for four by Erwee to start Potts' over.
The runs are flowing for South Africa now.
Broad extracts a bit of extra bounce from the pitch and Elgar pulls his bat out of the way in a rather exaggerated manner.
Four runs to end the over, an outside edge that is quickly to ground and runs away between the slips and gully.

That was hit very sweetly - but Broad knows that was a bad ball put away efficiently.
A leg stump half-volley from Broad and Elgar cashes in. Whipped away just in front of square for four.
That was a freebie for the batter.
Elgar 14, Erwee 19
Sarel Erwee is away in this session with a boundary. Too full and wide, too, from Potts and that allows the left-hander to throw his hands at it and drive the ball away square.
It's a similar ball to end the over, perhaps not quite as full, and this time it is half-stopped by Pope at gully to save a couple of runs.
That's a beauty from Potts! He angles the ball across Erwee but gets it to nip back sharply and beat the left-hander on the inside edge.
There's still something in this surface for the bowlers.
It'll be Matthew Potts to continue from the Nursery End. He bowled well at the end of the morning session.

Five dot balls from Broad, including a delivery that was a touch closer to off stump than Elgar might have thought when he left it, before the Proteas skipper drives the last ball firmly through the covers for two.
South Africa are up and running again after lunch.

The sun is out at Lord's. It does feel like good batting conditions. England are up against it.
Everybody ready? Good. Stuart Broad has the ball in his hand and is ready to bowl the first over of the afternoon session. He'll be around the wicket to Dean Elgar.
Excellent segue, Michael. England will be hoping cast a spell on the South Africa openers when the afternoon session gets underway shortly.
Something to help get rid of the skipper would be a good start. He has had a life already but played a couple of lovely shots, too.
