  1. SA 28-1published at 11 overs

Well it would have been a good wicket if he'd got his feet in the right place. It's not the first time Ollie Robinson's done it.

Oh no! It's a no-ball - it's one of the great catches destined never to be a catch. Robinson will be furious with himself. Nevertheless, this has been a terrific spell of bowling from Robinson.

  5. Elgar reprieved after Robinson no-ballpublished at 10 overs

    SA 26-1

Ollie Robinson overpitches to Dean Elgar and is punished with a boundary, but next ball he should be on his way back to the pavilion.

Elgar gets himself into a tangle attempting to work it to leg and offers a chance via bat pad which is gobbled up by the diving by Ollie Pope at short leg. England celebrate, Elgar starts to walk off.

But wait...it's a no-ball from Robinson! TV replays show he had overstepped. Oh Elgar, why do you find me at the lowest points, Elgar?

Elgar is the man that England would really like. He's not pretty but he is gutsy.

  8. SA 21-1published at 9 overs

A rare freebie from James Anderson as he hangs it out wide to Keegan Petersen who makes no mistake in thumping it to through the point region to the boundary for four.

The rest of the over Anderson elects to go a little fuller to the South Africa batters, in an attempt to get them to play after a few overs of playing and missing.

It would have been an absolutely brilliant catch from Stokes. To the naked eye I thought it was a half-volley but it just carried. It would have been an astonishing catch.

  11. dropped catch

    Close!published at 8 overs

    SA 15-1

    Was that a dropped catch?

A tough chance for Ben Stokes at third slip as Ollie Robinson finds the shoulder of Dean Elgar's bat. The England skipper gets one hand to it but is unable to scoop the ball up before it hits the turf. Would have been some take.

There are some bowlers who seem to make the ball accelerate off the pitch - obviously it doesn't actually happen like that. Robinson is one of those, he gets it to really zip off the surface.

That one takes off! Where did that one come from? We talked about extra bounce at Old Trafford and there it was.

  14. SA 15-1published at 7.4 overs

Steep and vicious bounce from the third ball of Ollie Robinson's over, as the ball climbs sharply into the body of Keegan Petersen.

The South Africa batter is light on his feet and sways out the way in the manner of a featherweight boxer.

Anderson opened Elgar up there like a tin of beans. You get the feeling that this wicket of Elgar is crucial. He's so experienced and gritty. I bet he's loving it out there.

England have to stay patient but you feel if they can take another one, they're right in.

  17. SA 12-1published at 7 overs

James Anderson, fashionable flecks of grey in his stubble, is plotting judging by the pensive look on his face. He's working away outside Dean Elgar's off stump, nibbling the ball about off the seam.

He squares up Elgar a couple of times before the South Africa batter is able to punch it off the back foot for a couple.

It was in the air, if there had been a fifth slip in then there might well have been a low catch but Petersen gets away with it.

  20. SA 10-1published at 6 overs

Keegan Petersen, who has his shirt neatly buttoned up, very gently taps his bat on the crease as he waits for the menacing figure of Ollie Robinson to bowl.

Robinson's second ball slips on to his pads and the South Africa batter is able to flick it away for a single get off the mark.

A couple of balls later and Petersen dabs Robinson through the vacant fifth slip region for four. Thick edge off the bat, but in truth he played it with quite soft hands.
