South Africa look very happy...

Has Stokes edged this? He must have done, he reviewed it instantly.
Next ball Lungi Ngidi thumps Ben Stokes on the pad with a yorker. South Africa's players go up and it's given out on the field.
Stokes, however, immediately reviews.

When Ben Stokes has come down the pitch, it's looked a lot more measured and considered. It isn't a wild thrash. That was the right delivery to do it to.
The crowd like that! Ben Stokes wallops Lungi Ngidi down the ground for four.
Anyway, that's the end of drinks. Dean Elgar turns to Lungi Ngidi as he bids to extract one of these two from the crease.
Suspect Ben Stokes might attempt to get going before that new ball comes.
Not every day you get a message from a deceased post-communist Russian leader. Thanks for getting in touch, Boris.
I've played a cricket match in Moscow, as it happens.

Boris Yeltsin: England need to make the most of the next 7 overs as highly likely to be blown away with the new ball.
Dr James Pope: So much better from Stokes, we know he can be a devastatingly fast scorer, but he is also a dangerous accumulator. England need him to do the second THEN the first.
Vernon Philander
Former South Africa fast bowler on BBC Test Match Special
England have been really careful with the way they have gone about their business. The ball is softer and bowlers have to work so much harder for their wickets.
Keshav Maharaj gets through another quick over which Ben Stokes efficiently works around the field. That's drinks.
A good hour for England.

Vineet Jacob: Ben Stokes has been at his vintage best trying to mix aggression and defence in immaculate proportions, the way seemingly only he knows.
Dean Elgar wears the expression of a man with a gum shield permanently embedded into his mouth. At the moment he is frantically waving his arms directing his fielders into position in search of this breakthrough.
Anrich Nortje is doing his best to get something out of the pitch with this older ball - consistently getting into the 90mph mark in that over. But nothing to trouble Ben Stokes or Ben Foakes with five runs added to the toal.

Good to see that England can be patient: not losing wickets and steadily building the lead: Good Test cricket!

Keshav Maharaj continues.
Ben Stokes is aggressive to his first ball, and cuts him for three as once again the ball slows to a stop en route to the boundary.
Maharaj gets one past the edge of Ben Foakes' bat later in the over but these batters are ticking along nicely for England now.

It's just starting to get lively in the Party Stand. The building of a beer snake has degenerated into paper cups being thrown all over the place.

You have to give a lot of credit to these two. It hasn't been reckless, it's a hard-fought hundred partnership. I can't help but feel that anything over 100 is going to be a significant lead on this surface.
Alison Mitchell
BBC Radio commentator
That is the hundred partnership. It's been a fine effort. South Africa have not been able to make a breakthrough in this post-lunch session.
It's been a slow, steady accumulation from Stokes and Foakes. Sensible cricket.
Lead by 98
Anrich Nortje is bounding in with purpose, but with this ball 70 overs old batting is infinitely easier at the moment for these two as they punch and nudge ones and twos.
Ben Foakes is three runs away from a half-century, while Ben Stokes has moved on to 56.
Keshav Maharaj switches ends, and Ben Stokes is able to work him nicely off his legs for a couple off his first ball.
Meanwhile, a rather serious-looking stewards is attempting to thwart the construction of said beer snake. A chap in his 20s is audacious enough to grab back some of the paper cups, and gets a tap on the shoulder.
