    Trail by 201

Billings adds a second boundary of the over, opening the face of the bat and guiding the ball past gully. Lovely shot.

That break in play doesn't seem to have done anything to affect the rhythm of this England pair. If anything it has helped Billings.

Sam Billings has been very measured. Anything that's drifted off line, he's taken runs from. But it will be a tough challenge for him when Bumrah corrects himself.

  3. Eng 208-6published at 46.1 overs

The boundaries keep coming. A poor ball to start from Jasprit Bumrah, it's heading down leg and Sam Billings helps it on its way to the fine leg boundary.

  4. Eng 204-6published at 46 overs

    Bairstow 95, Billings 7

Thakur finishes the over with a cracking delivery that rears up from just back of a length. Bairstow is just able to get his gloves out of the way in time.

He's just taken that off middle stump. With the form he's in, he just waits until the ball comes to him and is timing it so well.

    What a beautifully timed stroke!

    Bang, thank you very much!

  7. Eng 204-6published at 45.4 overs

Ridiculous. First ball back and Bairstow whips Thakur through straight mid-wicket for four. Of course, he does.

Here come Bairstow and Billings, we're just about ready to go in this extended afternoon session.

The radar looks clear for the rest of the day. That doesn't mean anything of course, because we thought that this morning.

Less than 10 minutes until we're due to restart and the good news is that it is still looking clear at Edgbaston. The India players are out warming up now.

This is where we're up to in the England innings, Jonny Bairstow is nearing another century but the home side are still 216 runs in arrears.

Tom Holmes: Last year I dreaded checking cricket updates on BBC. Stokes has changed that mindset completely & yet we complain. Can we stop saying "at one point we need to start playing proper Test cricket" like we've not been trying & failing to do that since Cook was captain.

Ben Wire: Don't agree. Stokes is trying to change the narrative, not play to India's game plan. To do that he needed to be bold. Bairstow was dropped by New Zealand and has had some near misses; we need a long run if tests to see whether that strategy is bold or reckless.

Stuart Tyrer: Stokes's batting is a statement to encourage this team, once everyone is buying in and understanding what he wants, he'll settle down. At the moment he's just setting an example.

Rob: People are very quick to criticise Stokes. We've gone from one win in seventeen Tests, to three wins in three. He did get out easy, but if this England team tried to play on the defensive, they'd be all out for 130. At least we're giving India something to fear.

James Roche: Don't buy the criticism of Stokes' batting. He's setting the tone that means Bairstow is hitting the way he is. It's about the approach. Can't praise when it goes right and slam when it goes wrong. Putting doubt in bowlers' minds with charging down. He sets the tone
