Michael Fletcher: If you’d asked me five Tests ago I’d have said Jonny Bairstow was an overrated player who’s had too many chances. Never been happier to discover I don’t know what I’m talking about!

  3. Eng 236-6published at 51 overs

Another fine over from Bumrah, just a leg bye from it.

The fast bowler very nearly gets a Billings with a yorker last ball. The England man just manages to get the bottom of the bat to it and that is enough to send it bouncing over the top of the stumps.

Prakash is going to get his wish, Jadeja is readying himself to bowl the next over.

I am very surprised we haven't seen Ravindra Jadeja yet.

That's the sixth no-ball from Thakur.

  8. Eng 235-6published at 50 overs

    Bairstow 102, Billings 23

We eventually get to the end of the Thakur over after three no-balls from the India seamer. Both sides have had issues with overstepping in this match.

That's a sign of pressure. India were tying Billings down a bit, and he was just trying to force a shot to rotate the strike and release it.

  10. Eng 231-6published at 49.3 overs

Chance... but Billings gets lucky. It's a leading edge from the England wicket-keeper as he tries to clip Thakur through the legside. The ball looks to be looping to Bumrah at mid-on but keeps going and just gets over the head of the stand-in India skipper.

That is Jonny Bairstow's 11th Test hundred. He had six at the end of 2021.

He's scored five hundreds in nine matches and in all of them he's come to the crease with less than 60 runs on the board and his side three or four wickets down.

Bumrah does eventually find the edge but it's played with soft hands by Billings and the ball drops short of second slip. Very good over, though. A maiden.

Bairstow might be making it all look very easy but Bumrah is giving Billings a real working over, beating the outside edge by a whisker twice in the first three balls of his latest.

He certainly enjoyed that one! What an entertaining innings. It's hard not to feel emotion for him.

He's bringing this new style to life for England.

What a summer he is having! Jadeja of all people misfielded on the boundary but that doesn't matter.

He looks to the heavens as he always does. A brilliant innings, the form of his life.

100 for Jonny Bairstowpublished at 48 overs

    Eng 227-6

He's done it again! Three hundreds in as many Tests for the England batter and it's been another fabulous knock. He gets there with another four, albeit a fortuitous one as Ravindra Jadeja slips and lets the ball through on the point boundary.

11 Test hundreds in total now for Bairstow - five of them this year - and, remarkably, this 119-ball effort is his slowest ton of the summer.

Worked legside for two by Billings.

England have avoided the follow-on. It wasn't always guaranteed in this innings.
