Stokes is too good a player to come charging down the pitch 10th ball. I don't like that, I'm sorry.

Those great knocks that he played, I think he faced something like 70 balls for three. Then when he went, he went. But he'd played himself in.

  2. Eng 84-5published at 28.2 overs

Ben Stokes charges at Jasprit Bumrah second ball.

    He misses.

    I'll say no more.

A poor shot from Bairstow. A flap outside off stump. It swung away but his feet didn't move an inch.

  4. Eng 84-5published at 28 overs

    Trail by 332

Short, wide and Bairstow takes a wild swing and a miss, his feet not moving a centimetre.

Poor shot. Rishabh Pant drops the ball behind the stumps and looks baffled, an indication that it is still wobbling about a bit.

  5. Eng 84-5published at 27.1 overs

A loosener from Shami that drifts down the leg side and through to wicketkeeper Pant.

There are 98 overs due to be bowled today due to the time lost to rain yesterday.

  6. Postpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 3 July 2022

Edgbaston cheers as Stokes and Bairstow fist bump and make their way to the middle.

Bairstow whirls his bat around in the air like a lightsaber and takes his guard. Mohammed Shami is going to bowl the first over of the day.

It can be like quicksand when you're in that poor run of form. You are so desperate to get out of it and score some runs.

The best thing to do would be to let Crawley go, play for his county and take him out of the spotlight.

I felt a little sorry for Alex Lees. I don't think he'd faced someone like a Bumrah before and he must've been thinking, "where on earth is the ball?"

There's concern over Zak Crawley. His mind seems scrambled, he looked all at sea.

  10. Postpublished at 10:22 British Summer Time 3 July 2022

James Anderson, who took 5-60 yesterday morning, said that the "best form of defence is to attack".

Based off that, we could be in for some fun today. Jonny Bairstow is 12 not out and Ben Stokes yet to score.

If you're going to attack, they're the pair you want to do it.

The Indian bowlers will like those clouds rolling in overhead. They were class yesterday, in a different league. They were quick, hostile and England didn't put up much of a fight.

I expect them to take the last five England wickets relatively quickly today.

    Good morning!

Day two belonged to India and the rain. What will day three bring?

For England, the plan is pretty simple: bat all day. It won't be easy against Bumrah, Shami and Siraj, but based on what we've seen in the past few weeks, I'm not going to bother making any predictions.
