That was flush in the grille.
OK, in fairness, that was a pretty good short ball from Potts.
Shardul Thakur gets in all sorts of bother and is struck bang on the helmet. Nasty one, and we'll have a break in play as he's checked by the physio.
What an iconic moment.
At least Jack Leach is pitching the ball up. He's started really nicely.

Watch India put on another 150 because England lose their heads and bowl dross at tailenders.
Joe in London
If England keep bowling like this, they won't be concerned in the slightest.
Potts bowls short and down the leg side. He bowled soooo well yesterday pitching the ball up and started doing the same this morning.
He gets a number eight batter to bowl at and he starts pitching it halfway down the pitch. WHY!?

Right now, I think India will be a little bit concerned.

Three wickets in the session has given England a sniff.

The turn and bounce that Jack Leach is getting right now is making me really question why England opened with Joe Root this morning.
He gets one to turn sharply in to Jadeja that he leaves and is pinned on the pad. They discuss a review, but it was probably a bit high.

Thakur has taken on those two short balls. As so many of them do now. I've seen so many hooks and pulls this summer.
Ah. It's started.
Potts bowls a few bouncers to Shardul Thakur. Thankfully he doesn't manage to get any bat on them but please, let's not continue with it for too long.
There have only been 12 successful run-chases at Edgbaston in Test history.

Pant fell one run short of Alec Stewart's record for most runs by a wicket-keeper, 204, in a Test in England.

How quickly can England take these final four wickets?
As long as they don't all of a sudden start bowling short at the tailenders, hopefully they will be batting soon ...

Well done, Jack Leach. You've got to be brave in this situation.

That's a spectacular wicket! Leach is getting exaggerated turn and should maybe have been bowling a bit earlier. Have you ever seen a wicket like that?
Pant c Root b Leach 57 (Ind 198-6)
Jack Leach has his man!
Rishabh Pant tries to reverse sweep, a bit more conventionally than the last, and gets a decent amount on it but straight to Joe Root at slip!
Root does well to stay still, because Pant was moving all over the place the ball could've gone anywhere.
Leach's resilience comes to the fore again.

That flies through and was taken by Billings with some alarm. That was heading for his nose! There was some serious carry there.

Potts is finding something in this pitch that neither Broad or Anderson could, and that is some compliment.
The ball is flying through to Billings, the first ball taken by his face and nearly sends him reeling backwards. Another just darts in past Jadeja's off stump as the batter leaves perilously.

Peter: OK, we've seen the "New" England approach work outrageously against a (be honest) weakened NZ side. However, put this approach up against a talented, seasoned Test side (which India certainly are), and, well, you can see the result. Thoughts?
