    Oh my word.

One keeps low and Bairstow just jams his bat down on it. The next almost pops up to short leg.

    Now, now, Jonny ...

That was quite stylish from Joe Root.

  5. Eng 354-3published at 73.4 overs

Carved away for four by Root! Down on one knee, perfectly timed. I feel like I'm becoming complacent to his brilliance, it's so frequent.

Does he want Bairstow to get his ton?!

Come on Joe Root, give Jonny Bairstow a little single so he can get the job done.

  7. Eng 350-3published at 73.2 overs

    Need 28 runs to win

Dabbed into the off-side for a single by Bairstow.

The next ball Joe Root scampers a two. He makes us wait a little longer.

Joe Root late cuts down to third for a single and gifts Jonny Bairstow five balls from Shardul Thakur.

  9. Eng 346-3published at 73 overs

It's almost like we can't have any excitement without it being immediately quashed by the umpires changing the ball.

I do have words for this. I'll stick with annoying.

It's not from the manual but it's hugely effective. Joe Root is putting on an absolute display.

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 342-3published at 71.4 overs

    Need 36 runs to win

    Oh my word!!!

It's the reverse ramp again! Absolute scenes!

I have no words. Literally no words. Joe Root you are just a genius.

  15. Eng 336-3published at 71.2 overs

Down the track and hammered over the bowler's head for four! Joe Root, what is this madness?!

I do feel like that spell where England took seven wickets - even though India played some poor shots - the short-ball and hitting the pitch, it was an aggressive ploy. It worked.

  17. Eng 332-3published at 71 overs

    Need 46 runs to win

Just a single from the over as Bairstow pads away the final ball with utter disdain. As if to say, come on, give me a challenge.

  18. Eng 331-3published at 70.1 overs

Ravindra Jadeja is into the attack for the first time.

Root, with an air of invincibility, attempts to reverse sweep his first ball! He misses, but the intent is pretty clear.

That was a gift from Shardul Thakur.

  20. Eng 331-3published at 70 overs

    Need 47 runs to win

A pie from Shardul Thakur's final ball is pulled effortlessly by Jonny Bairstow for four.

He barely had to try - just helped on its way.

Less than 50 required now and Bairstow on to 97.
