That is a typical Root shot. It almost just slides away to the boundary.
It feels like there is nothing India can do to stop this happening. They look beaten actually.

Rooooooot! Consecutive boundaries, the first guided down to third and the second clipped through mid-wicket.
200 partnership for Root and Bairstow. This is just ridiculous.
I obviously don't want them to slow down but at the same time, I can't type quick enough. Aaaah.
Target 378
Dabbed down to third for a single in the most classic Joe Root style.
How does he make it look so easy?
Another picture-perfect Joe Root drive is just retrieved on the boundary but that brings up England's 300 and Edgbaston erupts.

Aleem Dar may have just broken the record for the slowest walk at a sporting event.
We last changed the ball 5.4 overs ago. I make this the ninth ball change of this Test.
Another ball change.
The umpires look really fed up of this. Aren't we all?

That is the first maiden in 29 overs.
Target 378
Jasprit Bumrah pins Bairstow on the thigh and gives a very ambitious appeal given that the batter is rubbing the sore area and it's very high.
A maiden! What a rarity.

Sarah Gosling: I’ve spent a lot of time on trains over the last week - a lot. Taunton, London, Paris, Ware and hopefully finally home again to Nottingham this afternoon. Very grateful for TMS keeping me company on the last leg. Come on England.

Wow, glorious! That is just Joe Root at his best.
Target 378
Full, wide and beautifully driven by Joe Root to the cover boundary.
Save your legs, Joe. Lovely.
Jonny's in the mood. Again.
Mohammed Shami is getting the ball to swing.
The only problem is that he's only managing to swing it down the leg side.
Four more byes!

It's quite tense, isn't it?
There is a funny atmosphere in the ground today. The stewards and everyone else are very relaxed.
Target 378
Bairstow is playing all sorts of games with India at the moment.
He nibbles at one outside off stump that just darts past his edge and has us all gasping, before playing a simple tap-and-run into the covers for two.
Every time he gives the bowler a glimpse of hope, he takes some runs from the next ball.
Edge-of-your-seat stuff.
How many times do you reckon we've typed the words "Jonny Bairstow" and "four" in our live texts this summer?
Well, here's another.
A glorious thump down the ground off Bumrah brings him another boundary.

There was no chance for Rishabh Pant there. It went a long way.
Target 378
Four byes! That'll do nicely.
Sprayed down the leg side by Shami and some late swing carries it past the keeper and down to the boundary.

Useful runs for England. You don't care how they come at this stage.
