  3. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Notts 302, Glamorgan 33-0

An eight-hour day is finally over in Nottingham.

Ben Duckett's ton was the eye catcher but, after fighting back well to take the last six Notts wickets for just 44, the Glamorgan openers have now made a sound start.

Andrew Salter (15) and David Lloyd (13) have already clubbed five boundaries between them in as many overs.

  4. Three overs left at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Notts 302, Glamorgan 17-0

Bright and breezy start for Glamorgan on the ground where they beat Durham to win the One-Day Cup last August.

David Lloyd has 12 from the first two overs.

    Three left in the day.

  5. Glamorgan under way at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Notts 302, Glamorgan 11-0

11 off the first over for Glamorgan in Nottingham.

But James Pattinson did have one near miss - David Lloyd caught at second slip off a no ball.

And in the second over there is another near miss as Lloyd calls Andrew Salter for an unnecessarily sharp single.

Salter is still to get off the mark. And it so nearly didn't happen at all.

  6. Close of play at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Durham 356-6 v Leicestershire

Durham close on 356-6 after a day in which only three home batsmen made double figures.

But crucially two of them were centurions David Bedingham, back to last season's early top form with 184 not out, and Sean Dickson (120), in a 231-run fourth-wicket stand.

  7. Close of play at Bristolpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Yorks 37-0 v Glos 227

No joy for Gloucestershire's bowlers so far, although they've managed to peg Yorkshire back with Ryan Higgins and Josh Shaw sending down three maidens apiece.

But the visitors go into day two in a good position at 37-0, with Adam Lyth 24 not out and George Hill batting almost an hour for three.

They're trailing by 190 after bowling the home side out for 227, centred around a brilliant century from debutant Marcus Harris.

  8. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Somerset 109 v Essex 109-2

All square at Taunton then. 109 each.

Only trouble is, from a Somerset perspective, is that there may be a few more to come from Essex tomorrow.

With eight wickets in hand, and the Cooks at the crease, it looks like a recipe for runs.

Sir Alastair is on 59 - and nightwatchman Sam is on 3.

  9. Stumps at The Ovalpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Surrey 312-3 v Hants

Very much Surrey's day after being put in to bat, with Ollie Pope reaching the close unbeaten on 113.

He and Ben Foakes have shared a stand of 79 so far after Ryan Patel (58) and Hashim Amla (73) also helped to pile on the runs.

Could be another tough day tomorrow for Hampshire...

  10. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 344-4

Another tough day in the field for Kent's bowlers after a bit of a grind at Chelmsford last week for nearly two days.

Centuries for Lancashire from skipper Dane Vilas (124) and Steven Croft (113 not out) have been the stand-out performances on a day when the Red Rose have made a promising start to their season.

  11. Harris makes perfect start in new surroundingspublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Gloucestershire 227 v Yorkshire 27-0

Marcus Harris has endeared himself to his new home crowd in the best way possible.

Crunching cover drives were mixed with quiet defence, but had a catch behind been taken with Harris on 18, Gloucestershire could have found themselves well and truly in the mire.

As is, strikes are needed this evening to ensure that this day doesn't belong firmly to their visitors.

  12. Solid start for Yorkshire at Bristolpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Yorks 26-0 v Glos 227

Yorkshire's openers are looking to capitalise after dismissing the home side for 227 - and it's so far, so good as far as they're concerned.

Adam Lyth has been in bullish mood, smashing Matt Taylor for six and four in the same over and he's on 23, while George Hill has contributed the other three runs.

    Westley c Davies b C Overton 13 (Somerset 109 v Essex 103-2)

Wicket late in the day for Somerset just at a time they really needed one.

Essex skipper Tom Westley had a testing time out there with lots of playing and missing, but he is caught down the legside off Craig Overton to give Steven Davies a catch.

Six overs until stumps meaning Alastair Cook is joined by his namesake Sam as nightwatchman.

Pope plunders first ton of the seasonpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Surrey 284-3 v Hants

Ollie Pope (Surrey)Image source, Getty Images

Ollie Pope has slowed down a bit since tea, but he's looked impressive today and advances to his century with a leg-side flick off Keith Barker for four!

Pope is 101 not out from 151 balls, with Ben Foakes at the other end on 30 and Surrey eyeing a big total here.

And remember, Hampshire won the toss and put them in to bat this morning...

  15. 50 runs

50 for Alastair Cookpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Somerset 109 v Essex 100-1

    CookImage source, Rex Features

Two runs off Tom Abell for Alastair Cook takes him to first-class career half-century number 118 (for now).

It's come from 108 balls and then a couple of deliveries later, he stands back and crashes his seventh four of this innings so far to bring up the 100 for Essex.

    Class. Permanent.

  16. Luck not coming Somerset's waypublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Somerset 109 v Essex 90-1

    SiddleImage source, Rex Features

Somerset doing everything but taking a wicket at the moment.

Peter Siddle has beaten Tom Westley's outside edge more times than I can count, but none of them have found a touch.

Alastair Cook (48 not out) has also survived a couple of hearty leg before shouts from Ben Green and Tom Abell.

  17. Vilas & Croft's day to shinepublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 306-4

    Scott Read

An eighth century in Lancashire colours for captain Dane Vilas and his 23rd of his first-class career.

His 215-run partnership with Steven Croft (101 not out) has dominated the opening day so far, in the end it fell 41 runs short of a record fourth-wicket partnership for the Red Rose against Kent.

Steven Croft has just brought up his 15th century and for the second successive season, two Lancashire batters reach three figures in the same innings against Kent.

    Dale c Malan b Fisher 0 (Glos 227 all out v Yorks)

OK, scrub that suggestion of a second batting point for Gloucestershire!

Last man Ajeet Singh-Dale lasts only two balls before Matt Fisher has him caught on the off side.

Excellent figures of 4-19 by Fisher, with Rauf taking 3-81 and Patterson 2-43.

Yorkshire have 15 overs to face tonight.

  19. 100 runs

100 for Steven Croftpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 296-4

Not long after Dane Vilas departs, Steven Croft brings up his century having played a superb anchor role in that fourth-wicket partnership of 215.

He get to his century off 235 balls and it's included 10 fours.

    Harris c Duke b Patterson 136 (Glos 226-9 v Yorks)

Marcus Harris finally holes out after a superb knock of 136 - he skies one off Steven Patterson and it sails into Duke's gloves.

However, his ninth-wicket stand of 43 with former Yorkshire player Josh Shaw has given Gloucestershire some hope of scrambling their way to a second batting point.
