An empathic on-drive for four from the Lancashire captain Dane Vilas in the penultimate over of the session reflects the dominance the Red Rose have shown in the afternoon.

  4. Tea at Canterburypublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 229-3

That's the tea break in this one where Dane Vilas (88 not out) and Steven Croft (69 not out) have batted through the entirety of the afternoon session.

Their third-wicket partnership now worth 149.

Kent with some more hard yards in the field to come after tea it seems.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Wayne Madsenpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Derbyshire 236-2 v Sussex

    MadsenImage source, Rex Features

A run-filled day at Derby so far it seems.

Wayne Madsen has a half-century from 112 balls with three fours as he plays second-fiddle to Shan Masood's impressive knock of 146 not out so far.

A partnership worth 145 as it stands between the pair for the hosts' third wicket.

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Hammond c Rauf b Fisher 20 (Glos 152-4 v Yorks)

Three now for Matt Fisher - and he's deserved them! This time he tempts Miles Hammond to hook and the catch is safely taken at deep square leg.

Hammond goes for 20 and Yorkshire needed that wicket with just five overs remaining to tea. Ryan Higgins has joined Marcus Harris, who's 13 short of a century.

  7. Close call for Harris at Bristolpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Glos 144-3 v Yorks

Dom Bess (Yorkshire)Image source, Rex Features

Marcus Harris hasn't given too many chances on his Gloucestershire debut, but Dom Bess almost picked up that prize wicket just now.

The Yorkshire off-spinner tempted Harris down the track and his drive took the inside edge - but narrowly past leg stump.

Harris is eyeing a ton here on 85 not out, with Miles Hammond - who earlier heaved Bess for six - unbeaten on 14.

  8. Steady reply so far from Essexpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Somerset 109 v Essex 22-0

    BrowneImage source, Rex Features

Nine overs negotiated without too many alarms so far for Alastair Cook (10 not out) and Nick Browne (10 not out).

Craig Overton has just reeled off his first over since returning from England's Test series against the West Indies.

  9. Tea on the horizon....published at 15:33 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

Stay awake now - not long until the tea interval arrives...

Probably around about 30 minutes or so before all our games have caught up on the over-rate front, but a few will probably heading for the shorter interval in the next 10.

  10. Vilas & Croft continue to flourishpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 201-3

    Ben Watts

    VilasImage source, Getty Images

An excellent unbeaten century partnership continues between Dane Vilas and Steven Croft for the visitors.

They’ve complemented one another perfectly with Vilas (72 not out) the more aggressive looking to drive at the ball, while Croft (60 not out) has been more watchful, particularly deflecting the ball well into the leg side.

Kent’s bowlers have been rotated well by Ollie Robinson, but all have struggled in this session to force any mistakes from this experienced pair.

Lancashire now also with a first batting bonus point in the bag as they pass 200.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Hashim Amlapublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Surrey 182-2 v Hampshire

Hashim Amla (Surrey)Image source, Getty Images

Well, it hasn't been the prettiest half-century of Hashim Amla's distinguished career - but he's reached 50 from 116 balls.

A cover drive for three off Ian Holland - one of only two successful bowlers so far - took Amla past 50.

Ollie Pope is also looking good for at least a half-century, dare we say, on 36 not out. Surrey are going nicely at 177-2.

  12. Essex reply under waypublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Somerset 109 v Essex 6-0

No hanging around at Taunton - Essex's reply is already eight balls old.

Nick Browne and Alastair Cook opening for the visitors against Lewis Gregory and Peter Siddle.

  13. Durham making hay in the afternoonpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Durham 140-3 v Leicestershire

Dickson and BedinghamImage source, Rex Features

It's been a good afternoon session for Durham as David Bedingham and Sean Dickson have put together a 100-run stand for the fourth wicket.

The partnership began when they were struggling this morning on 34-3 in the 17th over.

Dickson's 60 is his highest first-class score for Durham, while Bedingham has followed up his 76 at Glamorgan last week with 58 so far today.

Leicestershire have also been weakened by the loss of Chris Wright, who limped off mid-way through his 10th over just after lunch.

  14. 50 runs

50 for Steven Croftpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Kent v Lancashire 173-3

Steven Croft's turn now to reach a half-century for Lancashire.

It's come off 118 balls and included six fours, the last of them a confident drive through the covers off Darren Stevens.

This fourth-wicket partnership now worth 93 for the visitors.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Dane Vilaspublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas off and running for the season with the bat in some style so far.

He reaches 50 from just 57 balls with six fours.

Steven Croft (46 not out) also going along nicely at the other end.

  16. Pope picking up the pacepublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Surrey 154-2 v Hants

Ollie Pope (Surrey)Image source, Getty Images

We didn't see much of Ollie Pope - well, anything to be accurate - on England's recent Caribbean tour.

But the Surrey batter is looking good so far at the Oval, punishing some loose balls on the leg side to advance to 24 not out as the total passes 150.

Hashim Amla is also there on 41 not out, but he seems content to play second fiddle as Hampshire's bowlers continue to toil.

    Siddle c A Cook b Harmer 3 (Somerset 109 v Essex)

Somerset all out for just 109.

Peter Siddle is the last man out against his former county and in a flash, Simon Harmer comes on and takes 3-14 in only 4.4 overs.

Four slip catches for Alastair Cook also and three wickets apiece for Sam Cook (3-17) and Mark Steketee (3-47).

    Durham 126-3 v Leicestershire

    Sean DicksonImage source, Rex Features

Two half-centurions for Durham up at Chester-le-Street.

Sean Dickson (58 not out) and David Bedingham (53 not out) have both reached theirs.

A partnership worth 92 for the fourth wicket so far after earlier wobbles at 26-3.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    Lammonby c A Cook b Harmer 48 (Somerset 106-9 v Essex)

    Make that nine down...

Tom Lammonby runs out of lives for Somerset after being dropped twice earlier in his innings.

He tries to get inventive and score some lower-order runs off Simon Harmer with a reverse sweep, but only manages to edge it to Alastair Cook at slip.

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 14 April 2022

    C Overton b Steketee 8 (Somerset 102-8 v Essex)

Somerset eight down and the potentially-dangerous Craig Overton is the latest man to fall.

Mark Steketee gets his third wicket with a ball that nips back through Overton's gate and clips the top of middle and off stump.
