It was a curiosity of the second round of Championship games that some of the best individual performances came in a losing cause.

Craig Overton took 13 wickets for Somerset, Ben Compton made a hundred in each innings for Kent and James Bracey hit 177 for Gloucestershire, but in each case their side was beaten.

Meanwhile, there were two double centuries on the final day at Derby as Tom Haines and Cheteshwar Pujara made the most of a flat pitch to secure a draw for Sussex after they had to follow on.

There will be a full set of nine matches in round three, all of them starting on Thursday and we will be here to provide the usual comprehensive coverage. See you then.

    Gloucestershire 227 & 359 v Yorkshire 376 & 213-4

There were four boundaries in that last Zafar Gohar for Harry Brook - but it is Harry Duke who wins the game for Yorkshire with a ramp shot off Gloucestershire skipper Graeme van Buuren.

It's tough for James Bracey, who earlier made 177 for the home side, who left Yorkshire a target of 211.

They were 30-2, but Dawid Malan settled things down for 65 before first-innings centurion Brook careried Yorkshire to the brink of victory with an unbeaten 56 off 48 balls.

The Tykes take 22 points and Gloucestershire three.

Just a couple of singles from that over by Graeme van Buuren - but what his side need now is a dramatic flurry of wickets. Harry Brook is 40 not out and Harry Duke has 13.

    Glos 227 & 359 v Yorks 376 & 185-4

Harry Brook looks like a man in a hurry.

He takes three boundaries off Josh Shaw's next over - two of them classy shots on either side of the wicket, the other a slash through the now rather exposed slip area.

Brook is 33 not out and Yorkshire are on the home straight now, with just 26 more needed...

Yorkshire continue to chip away at this target, with Harry Duke taking advantage of a Ryan Higgins ball on leg stump to whip away a boundary to midwicket.

That takes Duke (12*) into double figures and he and Brook (20*) have now added 26 since Malan's departure. Yorkshire need 39 more...

    Glos 227 & 359 v Yorks 376 & 167-4

Gloucestershire haven't given up on this just yet - Graeme van Buuren is frantically rotating his bowlers to try and break through this middle order while he still has runs to play with.

Josh Shaw is back on now, restricting Yorkshire to just a single for Harry Brook. But only wickets can tilt this in the home side's favour - Yorkshire have 16 more overs, if needed, to score 44 more runs.

  12. Postpublished at 17:19 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Glos 227 & 359 v Yorks 376 & 165-4

It's down to Harry and Harry - Brook and Duke, namely, to settle Yorkshire nerves now and steer their side to victory at Bristol.

Brook has just hit Matt Taylor for a boundary to bring the target below 50 and Duke followed it up with a scoop shot that bears a very white-ball flavour - but results in four more runs.

Remember, Yorkshire have plenty of overs left to overhaul this target of 211. It's just a question of whether they can keep enough wickets intact.

  13. DERBYSHIRE DRAW WITH SUSSEXpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 & 513-3

Cheteshwar Pujara flicks Matty Potts away for two runs to reach 200 off 387 balls, an innings featuring 23 fours, and the game is immediately ended as a draw.

The Indian finished on 201 not out, having shared a third-wicket stand of 351 with skipper Tom Haines, who made 243.

In the end, the pitch is the only winner, with the Derbyshire attack toiling all day with only Haines' belated wicket to show for their efforts.

Both teams are away in the next round of matches, Derbyshire at Leicestershire and Sussex taking on Worcestershire.
