  1. 50 runs

for Ben Comptonpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Lancashire 506 v Kent 260 & 146-7

Ben Compton follows his first-innings hundred with an unbeaten half-century. With fielders all round the bat, he tucks Matt Parkinson away for a single to reach it from 215 balls faced.

You can only admire his patience and resilience, with Kent now exactly 100 in arrears. Not out of the woods yet, but there are a few less trees blocking their view of a possible draw.

Stoppage at Bristol now, as James Bracey is clocked on the helmet ducking into a Haris Rauf delivery - and that brings concussion protocols into play.

Bracey is checked over and thankfully he's fine to continue - although a change of helmet is required.

That's the second time in this innings Bracey has taken a whack on the head from the Pakistan seamer.

It's a much-needed wicket for Notts as LPW has Andrew Salter lbw. There was some decent flight there by the left-arm spinner, but it didn't seem to do anything off the pitch, so Salter must have played down the wrong line.

Glamorgan need another 124 to win as Australia's Marnus Labuschagne joins David Lloyd. He failed in the first innings - and Notts need to get rid of him cheaply again.

We recently mentioned that Ben Compton's middle name is Garnet.

It's always worth checking out player profiles online as you come across some really interesting ones.

A few years ago, Zimbabwe had a player called David Mutendera, whose middle name is, apparently, Travolta.

You can only wonder whether his conception had anything to do with a hot night for his parents watching Saturday Night Fever at the Harare Odeon.

Gloucestershire's hopes of saving this game against Yorkshire largely rest on the shoulders of James Bracey, who has just reached 150.

It's been a rather nervy period for Bracey, who survived a vociferous caught behind appeal from Haris Rauf, as well as keeper Harry Duke and the slip cordon.

Rauf's next ball ballooned off a leading edge, which Duke couldn't quite nip around to catch - and then he thought about a quick single, which was never on.

But the left-hander regained his composure to pull Rauf through midwicket for four and go to 150 from 296 balls.

He needs no 10 Josh Shaw - the former Yorkshire player - to keep him company as long as possible, with the home side's advantage now 177.

Things we didn't previously know about Kent's Ben Compton.....

    His middle name is Garnet.

He made centuries in successive games in Zimbabwe's Logan Cup in February for a team called Mountaineers.

Like a mountain, the left-hander is proving to be an immoveable object as far as the Lancashire attack is concerned. He plays out a maiden from Luke Wells and remains 47 not out.

Still no success for Durham's bowlers as they attempt to force a win against Leicestershire.

The seamers have all kept things fairly tight, but as yet unable to break this Leicestershire opening partnership, which is now above 50.

Hassan Azad has 23 and Sam Evans 24.

Right on cue - Yorkshire are pushing that door open.

Steven Patterson strikes in the next over, pinning Matt Taylor on the back foot.

Eight down and suddenly a conundrum for James Bracey, who remains unbeaten on 147. How does he approach this, running out of partners with Gloucestershire's lead at 167?

Luke Wells is now bowling for Lancashire at Canterbury, but a poor ball is slammed away for four by Hamidullah Qadri.

Bet the fielder under the helmet at silly point breathed a sigh of rleief as that whizzed past him.

Qadri has 20 and Ben Compton is 45 not out.

Another half-volley from James Pattinson, another four by Andrew Salter.

Glamorgan are certainly making the most of anything loose at Trent Bridge - Slater has 13 and David Lloyd is on 10.

    Another 140 needed.

    Zafar Gohar c Lyth b Rauf 40 (Glos 315-7 v Yorks)

Haris Rauf makes the breakthrough for Yorkshire, just after the seventh-wicket stand had progressed into three figures!.

Gohar is the man to depart, nudging one outside off stump into the reliable hands of Adam Lyth at second slip.

Gloucestershire lead by 166 - but has that wicket opened the door for the visitors?

    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 & 310-2

No change at the Incora County Ground where Tom Haines and Cheteshwar Pujara continue to enjoy themselves for Sussex.

Haines is 179 not out, his Indian partner has 74 and their partnership is worth 165 and rising.

Still another 21 needed, though, to clear the first-innings deficit.

No holding back there as Andrew Salter flays a wide half-volley from Australian James Pattinson for four.

Is that an indication that Glamorgan have no intention of 'mucking about' with their relatively modest target? They need another 160 for victory.

Approaching the end of the first hour's play and only one wicket so far for Lancashire.

Ben Compton has now gone beyond 10 hours at the crease in this match for Kent and he is 37 not out, with Hamidullah Qadri on 15.

The home side still need another 132 to avoid an innings loss.

Less than an hour gone at Bristol, but Yorkshire will be feeling somewhat frustrated by this seventh-wicket stand.

James Bracey and Zafar Gohar have now stretched Gloucestershire's lead above 150 and their partnership has brought 89 valuable runs so far.

No real chances offered so far this morning, although Bracey's edge off Steven Patterson flew just wide of the diving Adam Lyth at second slip.

A landmark for Leicestershire opener Hassan Azad, who passes 2,500 first-class runs at the start of this second innings!

The Foxes won't be too bothered how many runs he makes today - it's all about crease occupation as they try to save this game at Chester-le-Street.

Azad's not too shabby when it comes to that, either - and he's looked untroubled so far with nine not out. Sam Evans has scored seven and Leicestershire are 20-0 after 10 overs.

Nottinghamshire are many people's favourites to win Division Two this summer - but Glamorgan have a great chance of inflicting a home defeat on them as James Weighell ends the home side's second innings.

He has Joey Evison caught behind down the leg-side as he fails to make proper contact with a pull shot - and the Welsh club will chase a target of 166 for victory.

Timm van der Gugten finishes with 4-60 and Michael Hogan 3-48.
