    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 & 495-2

Cheteshwar Pujara thumps Leus du Plooy away for four and a single off the next delivery brings up a 350 partnership with Tom Haines.

Sussex's record for the third wicket against any other side is 385 by Michael Yardy and Murray Goodwin in 2006, when Warwickshire were the opposition.

Pujara is 189 not out and Haines has 243.

  3. Ben Compton by numberspublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Kent 260 & 279 v Lancashire 506

    • 219 runs scored in the match (104 no and 115)
    • 629 balls faced
    • 856 minutes at the crease across two innings
    • 20 fours, one six
    • First Kent player to score two 100s in one match for three years

    Durham 428 & 239-2 dec v Leics 273 & 165-2

Technically 24 overs are still to be bowled at Chester-le-Street, but it looks unlikely we'll see most of those sent down.

This match is meandering towards a draw, with Leicestershire's batters doing enough to thwart Durham's hopes of pushing for victory.

Opener Sam Evans has batted solidly for his 69 not out, with Colin Ackermann also there on 30 - but the nominal target of 395 has never been a consideration.

    Compton lbw Balderson 115 (Kent 260 & 279 v Lancashire 506)

After all that, Ben Compton falls just short in his bid to carry hit bat through both Kent innings.

He misses an attempted pull shot and George Balderson wins an lbw decision, leaving Lancashire a victory target of 34.

Jackson Bird remains unbeaten on 17 after a 54-run stand for the final Kent wicket.

    Hill c Van Buuren b Singh-Dale 36 (Yorks 111-3)

Just when you thought Yorkshire were in the home straight, Gloucestershire have pegged them back again...

George Hill was going along nicely for 36, but he's just clipped Ajeet Singh-Dale straight to midwicket.

Dawid Malan looks the key man here if Yorkshire are to get across the line - they still need exactly 100 but at less than four an over.

They are back out in the middle at Canterbury. How is this one going to go?

If I was Ben Compton, I'd be expecting my team-mates to carry me out there in a litter.

The first over after tea is a maiden from Hasan Ali to Jackson Bird.

    Glos 227 & 359 v Yorks 376 & 92-2

Halfway through the 60 overs available to Yorkshire and they're making steady progress now.

George Hill has just dispatched Ryan Higgins for a beautifully-timed straight four to move on to 35.

He and Dawid Malan (23*) have now added 62 and 119 more runs are needed from 30 overs.

    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 & 465-2

Derbyshire's bowlers must be heartily sick of the sight of Tom Haines and Cheteshwar Pujara. They have been toiling away all day and been unable to separate Sussex's overnight pair.

Haines has 239, Pujara is 163 not out and their stand is now worth 320.

This long since became the highest third-wicket partnership for Sussex against Derbyshire - the previous best was 197 by Harold Gilligan and Kumar Duleepsinhji in 1929.

  10. Postpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Glos 227 & 359 v Yorks 376 & 77-2

Signs that Yorkshire are just starting to raise the tempo after tea, with George Hill using his feet to Zafar Gohar and punching the spinner for four through the covers.

Dawid Malan has also weighed in, slamming Gohar for six and the White Rose need another 134 with 33 overs remaining.

Gloucestershire could do with another wicket or two...

  11. Tea at Canterburypublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Kent 260 & 279-9 v Lancashire 506

The extended afternoon session comes to an end at Canterbury after Jackson Bird finds the boundary off Matt Parkinson to bring up a 50 partnership with Ben Compton for the final Kent wicket.

Compton is 115 not out and has now batted for more than 14 hours in this match. It might not be IPL style, or The Hundred, but it's extraordinary.

Kent lead by 33 and there are a minimum of 23 overs remaining - can this pair salvage what would be an astonishing draw?

    Gloucs 227 & 359 v Yorkshire 376 & 54-2

    Edward Seabourne
    BBC Radio Bristol commentator

After James Bracey was eventually removed for a career-best 177, but not before having pulled Haris Rauf for two consecutive sixes, Gloucestershire's bowlers have more than backed up his efforts.

It has been slim pickings for Yorkshire in terms of balls to score from, and Ajeet Dale's delivery to castle James Wharton was close to a fast bowler's dream.

Gloucestershire's habit of taking it down to the final session on the final day continues, but Yorkshire will still be confident they have enough in the tank to push for victory.

  14. Postpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

There's the chance Lancashire have been waiting for, but wicketkeeper Phil Salt is unable to complete the stumping off Matt Parkinson and Ben Compton survives on 110 not out.

    Derbyshire 505-8 dec v Sussex 174 & 454-2

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex commentator

Another session goes by without a wicket, the last Sussex wicket went down at 15.05 yesterday,

Tom Haines and Cheteshwar Pujara have now been together for 398 minutes or nearly 6 hours and 40 minutes!

Credit to the Derbyshire bowlers who have never stopped trying, but ultimately this is a very good batting pitch, and Sussex have taken full advantage second time around

You wouldn't think he'd have any energy left but when Luke Wells drops short, Ben Compton swivels and pulls him away for the first six of the match.

Kent are now 14 ahead - but tea has been delayed because they are nine wickets down.

  18. Tea at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Durham 428 & 239-2 dec v Leics 273 & 137-2

Durham's hopes of victory are receding fast after picking up just one more wicket in the afternoon session.

It was that of George Rhodes, a maiden first-class victim for Oliver Gibson when he was caught down the leg side.

But the pitch is doing little to assist Durham's bowlers and Sam Evans (61 not out) and Colin Ackermann (12no) look well-placed to secure a draw for the Foxes.

for Ben Comptonpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 17 April 2022

    Kent 260 & 252-9 v Lancashire 506

After so many hours of rock-solid defence, Ben Compton produces a reverse sweep for four to reach his second century of the game from 313 balls. What an unbelievable effort this has been - and don't he forget he also made a hundred last week as well.

He is the first Kent batsman to 'double up' in a Championship game since Sam Billings did so against Yorkshire at Headingley in 2019.

Others on the double list include Rob Key, the new managing director of the England men's team, who did it twice.

Ben Compton square cuts for one and the scores are level, Lancashire will have to bat again.

After a single for Jackson Bird, the left-hander adds another from the final ball of Matt Parkinson's over and keeps the strike on 96 not out.
