    Carlson c Mike b S Steel 13 (Glamorgan 437 & 127-4 v Leicestershire 320 & 266)

Leicestershire are just delaying the inevitable but Scott Steel removes Kiran Carlson, caught by Ben Mike, for 13.

A nice moment for the Foxes youngster, it's his maiden first-class wicket.

Only 23 runs needed for Glamorgan, though, with six wickets in hand.

    Essex 403 & 124-0 v Yorkshire 465

Yorkshire have just tweeted that Sir Alastair Cook is chasing two hundreds in the same first-class game for the first time in his career.

If that's correct, that is quite the surprising stat. Obviously back-to-back tons is an incredibly difficult feat to achieve but it's a slight surprise Cook does not boast that among his many, many accomplishments.

He's currently 19 runs short, unbeaten on 81.

  3. Happy Haynes (at last) has his hundredpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Dan Wheeler

The skip of joy said it all for Jack Haynes as he ran to the non-striker's end safe in the knowledge the ball was about the thud into the fence at an unguarded third man.

A maiden County Championship hundred has looked inevitable even since the 21-year old’s breakthrough summer last year and it has now arrived.

There would have been a second of alarm as his outside edge off Matty Potts landed inches in front of third slip - reminding him of the heartbreak of finding the hands of long leg off a long hop against Derbyshire when on 97 a year ago.

A huge hug from skipper Brett D’Oliveira followed. They know the work to save this game is nearly done.

Haynes’ 195- run stand with Azhar Ali - record for Worcestershire against Durham - has helped that no end.

Right then, back under way in our six remaining games.

The final session of this round of County Championship fixtures - where is the drama coming from? Southampton? Manchester? Hove? Worcester?

    Sussex 392 & 335-4 dec v Middlesex 358 & 139-1

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A terrific session for Middlesex who have scored 117 without loss in 31 overs.

The visitors need a further 231 in 38 overs which, at six an over on a good pitch, and a short boundary on one side of the ground is very possible.

Sam Robson made 253 on this ground last year - he’s reached tea 85 not out and we could be in for a very exciting final session of the match.

  7. Tea in Manchesterpublished at 15:51 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

Warwickshire (144-6) lead Lancashire by 98 with four wickets left

Warwickshire go to tea with a 98-run lead.

Four quick wickets after tea, unlikely though it would be, might make things interesting.

Century for Jack Haynespublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec & 170-1 dec, Worcestershire 309 & 234-3

Jack Haynes reaches his maiden first-class century on the brink of tea, as he presses on following the departure of Azhar Ali for 92.

The pair have batted purely to save this game, not to win it, in a 195-run third-wicket stand that has taken up much of the day

But nonetheless, it has been a really good effort from the local boy, son of former Pears all-rounder Gavin Haynes.

  9. Tea in Cardiffpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Glamorgan 437 & 125-03 v Leicestershire 320 & 266

Just a matter of time in Cardiff after tea.

Glamorgan require 25 runs to win despite Callum Parkinson's three wickets for Leicestershire.

Victory will send them top of Division Two.

  10. Tea in Hovepublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Sussex 392 & 335-4 dec v Middlesex 358 & 139-1

The effort of the day arguably belongs to Middlesex pair Sam Robson and Peter Handscomb.

When Mark Stoneman fell at 1-1, the pressure was firmly on Robson and Handscomb, knowing Middlesex were two batters down due to Robbie White's dislocated shoulder and Shaheen Afridi's illness.

But they have responded magnificently, a partnership of 138 dealing a huge blow to Sussex's hopes of victory after the hosts earlier declared on 335-4.

Indeed, the Middlesex duo might well be eyeing the 231 runs needed for victory. Stick or twist is the question? They do only have seven wickets behind them. Interesting decision.

  11. Tea in Southamptonpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Hampshire 342 & 204, Gloucestershjre 179 & 248-8

Gloucestershire got to tea on the final day still needing 120 runs to win.

Jared Warner is on 10 and Mohammad Amir is on 15.

But the more likely scenario is Hampshire taking the two wickets they need to match Surrey with a third Championship win of the season.

  12. Tea in Chelmsfordpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 & 119-0 v Yorkshire 465

    And that's tea at Chelmsford.

Sir Alastair Cook unbeaten on 80, Nick Browne on 29. Yorkshire's bowlers unable to enjoy the success their Essex counterparts had this morning.

Just a matter of whether the knight of the realm can make a century before these sides surely shake hands on a draw in an hour or so.

  13. Postpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 & 118-0 v Yorkshire 465

Essex's opening partnership is well past the century mark now - with a draw virtually certain, the main remaining matter of interest is whether Sir Alastair Cook can register the 71st first-class century of his career.

He's up to 79 not out with tea approaching.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Azhar Ali b Rushworth 92 (Worcestershire 230-3 v Durham)

Azhar Ali is out for 92 following his 195-run stand with Jack Haynes, who is two runs short of a century.

It's Durham's first breakthrough of the day - and it is old stalwart Chris Rushworth who does the trick.

After his 3-77 in the first innings, it is another three for him in the second.

Daryl Mitchell may have now retired, but Worcestershire wickets still come for him with satisfying regularity.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Burgess b Parkinson 0 (Warwickshire 138-6 v Lancashire)

A third wicket for Matt Parkinson in Manchester.

Michael Burgess is bowled by the legspinner - and that's a third wicket in six overs for the addition of just six runs.

With Danny Briggs coming in to help Chris Benjamin batten down the hatches, Warwickshire lead by 93 - but now with only four wickets remaining.

    Surely not?

  16. Glamorgan closing in on victorypublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Glamorgan 437 & 102-3 v Leicestershire 320 & 266

Glamorgan have reached three figures in their second innings and are 48 runs from victory.

If they complete the formalities, it will be harsh on Leicestershire skipper Callum Parkinson.

He's taken all three wickets to fall this afternoon as well as providing valuable tail-end runs with knocks of 27 and 29 not out in the Foxes' two innings.

    Higgins c Brown b Abbott 25 (Gloucestershire 226-8, chasing 368 to win)

Gloucestershire are eight down. Closer to the end now in Southampton as Ryan Higgins, their only realistic hope, is out caught behind - and the reintroduction of Kyle Abbott proves a success.

New man in is Mohammad Amir.

Oh my goodness, look at this. Luxury. Decadence.

Meanwhile, Middlesex batters Sam Robson and Peter Handscomb are having their cake and eating it, having reached a century partnership to help the visitors recover from 1-1 to 104-1 as it stands.

Robson has his half-century - he's up to 61 not out now, with Handscomb unbeaten on 39.

Middlesex only have nine batters due to injury and illness, remember, and these pair are giving the depleted visitors a great chance of salvaging a draw. Maybe even a win? Although another 266 runs is a tall task...

  20. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Yates b Wood 55 (Warwickshire 132-4 v Lancashire)

Rob Yates is out, as Luke Wood clips the top of his off stump.

It is the second time in the match he has got out like that. He was bowled by Wood in the first innings too.

Chris Benjamin joins Will Rhodes in the middle.
