  1. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Sussex 395 & 335-4 dec v Middlesex 358 & 22-1

A long afternoon ahead for Middlesex.

They need 342 runs to win but that's a notional target really given that Robbie White's dislocated shoulder and Shaheen Afridi's illness have potentially reduced them to nine batters.

One wicket has already fallen, opener Mark Stoneman departing lbw for one, as Sussex hope their gamble of declaring on 335-4 pays off, with Cheteshwar Pujara again in scintillating form, having hit an unbeaten 170.

  2. Lunch in Manchesterpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Warwickshire 315 & 85-1 Lancashire 361

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

When Alex Davies edged to Keaton Jennings off the bowling of Tom Bailey things could have unravelled for a Warwickshire side on the back of two batting collapses last week.

However, the session ends with 81 runs scored and just that one wicket to fall.

But still a fascinating morning in which Lancashire's bowlers challenged both the technique and patience of the batters.

Dom Sibley and Rob Yates obliged with a display of immaculate defence.

The partnership is worth 71 but they've eaten up 26 overs to frustrate Lancashire who couldn't have done much more.

  3. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec & 170-1 dec, Worcestershire 309 & 161-2

A very satisfactory morning's work by Worcestershire pair Azhar Ali and Jack Haynes at New Road.

They have added 76 in the session to take their third-wicket stand to 126.

Both have reached their 50 - in Azhar's case his 107th in first-class cricket.

Durham still need eight wickets. Or 281 even for the Pears to win?

  4. LEICESTERSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 266published at 13:07 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Glamorgan 437 v Leicestershire 320 & 266

Lunch in Cardiff too where Leicestershire's brave morning resistance could ultimately be for nought.

Ben Mike (64) and Callum Parkinson (29 not out) put on a gutsy eighth-wicket stand of 88 as the visitors rallied from 158-7.

But Michael Hogan bowled last man Beuran Hendricks just before lunch to leave the Foxes all out for 266.

Glamorgan need just 149 runs to wrap up victory over Division Two's bottom side.

  5. Lunch in Southamptonpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Hampshire 342 & 204 Gloucestershire 179 & 181-3

Mile Hammond completes his half-century just before lunch followed by a half-century stand with skipper Graeme van Buuren.

And, aside from a bit of a dodgy 'leave' from van Buuren in the final over of the morning, that is a tidy effort from the visitors.

Only 70 runs added. But just one wicket lost. Opener George Scott for his career-best 77

Another 187 needed in their pursuit of 368 to win. Is a good finish on the cards?

  6. Lunch in Chelmsfordpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 & 19-0 v Yorkshire 465

Essex reach lunch with no damage done.

There was a slight let-off for Sir Alastair Cook, dropped in a tough chance at slip, but he's unbeaten on 15, with Nick Browne on four, as the hosts have amassed 19-0.

They still trail by 43 runs but it will take a quick flurry of Yorkshire wickets in the afternoon to prevent this one ending in anything other than a draw.

  7. Postpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Glamorgan 437 v Leicestershire 320 & 260-9

Renewed hope for Glamorgan in Cardiff.

Ben Mike (64) and Chris Wright (3) depart in quick succession, caught off Michael Hogan and trapped lbw by Andrew Gorvin respectively.

Leicestershire lead by 143 but only have one wicket remaining.

  8. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 & 11-0 v Yorkshire 465

Sir Alastair Cook gets a nick off Jordan Thompson and it carries to slip but Harry Duke cannot haul it in.

Salt in the wounds, it goes for four too. Difficult catch in fairness but the type of opportunity Yorkshire have to take to boost their slim hopes of victory.

  9. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 & 2-0 v Yorkshire 465

Nick Browne and Sir Alastair Cook have negotiated the opening two overs of Essex's second innings with no scares, claiming a single apiece.

    Around 20 minutes to lunch.

An early wicket for Sussex in Division Two, though, and their hopes of victory against Middlesex will jump up a notch.

Opener Mark Stoneman goes for one, lbw to Aaron Beard. Middlesex are 8-1 - they are 361 runs behind and with Robbie White and Shaheen Afridi injured and ill respectively, we think they only have nine batters.

  10. 50 runs

Bears now lead in Manchesterpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Warwickshire 315 & 57-1 Lancashire 361

The Warwickshire 50 comes up, the 46-run first-innings deficit has been wiped out - and the Bears are now ahead in Manchester.

The only chance of forcing a result in this game, barring mad declarations, was for Lancashire to get early wickets today.

But they managed just one, Lancashire old boy Alex Davies - and first-innings centurion Dom Sibley and Rob Yates are already looking nicely established, having so far added 43.

  11. Mike maintains his good formpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Leicestershire 320 & 238-7, Glamorgan 437

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Leicestershire all-rounder Ben Mike's half-century has held up Glamorgan’s progress in Cardiff, having added to his unbeaten 99 in the previous match.

The Foxes looked doomed when they led by just 41 with three wickets in hand overnight but Mike has taken advantage of anything off target, striking eight boundaries in his 50 off 82 balls.

With captain Callum Parkinson defending firmly on a placid pitch, Glamorgan were unable to create any chances with the old ball despite running through a variety of pace, seam and spin options in the Sophia Gardens sunshine.

YORKSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 465published at 12:29 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Bess c Rossington b Snater 13 (Essex 403 v Yorkshire 465)

That's the end of Yorkshire's first innings.

Shane Snater finishes with figures of 3-62 after Dom Bess edges behind to Adam Rossington for 13.

It's a first-innings lead of 62 for Yorkshire, thanks to superb knocks from Harry Brook (123), Dawid Malan (87) and Joe Root (75).

Can they take a couple of early Essex wickets to give themselves a sniff of victory? The pitch certainly seems to be favouring the bowlers today...

A stretcher on a cricket field is a thankfully rare sight but it usually denotes a serious injury.

And so it transpires with Middlesex's Robbie White, who has dislocated his shoulder while fielding this morning.

The visitors are already without the unwell Shaheen Afridi so will have just 10 batters as they look to bat out a draw at Hove, where Sussex have just declared on 335-4 in their second innings, for a lead of 369.

Cheteshwar Pujara ended unbeaten on 170 with Sussex declaring after Tom Clark was trapped lbw for 77 by Luke Hollman.

This was the state of play at the start of day four at Sophia Gardens where Glamorgan would have fancied their chances of wrapping up a relatively quick Division Two victory over Leicestershire.

It's not worked out like that.

The visitors have stretched their overnight lead of 41 into three figures, currently standing at 105, without losing a single wicket in the morning session.

Ben Mike (41 not out) and Callum Parkinson (18 not out) have brought up their 50 partnership - indeed it's now up to 64 as the Foxes' hopes of avoiding a third defeat in five games grow.

WICKETpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Thompson b Harmer 0 (Essex 403 v Yorkshire 459-9)

The end is nigh for the Yorkshire batters now.

Simon Harmer bags his second wicket of the innings, clean bowling Jordan Thompson who goes for a six-ball duck.

Yorkshire have lost their last four wickets for just 33 runs and while they are guaranteed a first-innings lead it's not going to be as large as they would have hoped.

  16. 150 runs

150 up for Pujarapublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Sussex 392 and 324-3 v Middlesex 358

Cheteshwar Pujara continues his heroics for Sussex this summer.

Could he register a third double century in four matches after 201 against Derbyshire and 203 against Durham?

He's well on the way - after reaching 150, Pujara is beginning to let rip and is now up to 167.

Tom Clark, unbeaten on 71, is providing excellent support in a partnership that is up to 180 and counting.

Century stand for Azhar and Haynespublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec & 170-1, Worcestershire 309 & 142-2

Azhar Ali and Jack Haynes complete their century partnership at New Road.

And both have now also completed their 50.

No sign of a Durham breakthrough yet. Has golden arm Ben Stokes got anything up his tattooed sleeve?

WICKETpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Brook c Rossington b S Cook 123 (Essex 403 v Yorkshire 458-8)

An excellent innings from Yorkshire's Harry Brook comes to an end.

A shorter ball from Sam Cook does the damage, tempting Brook in and he gets a nick through to wicketkeeper Adam Rossington.

That's Brook's third ton of the season already - following 194 against Kent and 101 against Gloucestershire - and he must surely be putting himself firmly in the thoughts of the England selectors.

He deserves the round of applause he gets as he heads back to the pavilion.

WICKETpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Scott c Abbas b Dawson 77 (Gloucestershire 131-3, chasing 368 to win)

The admirable patience of Gloucestershire opener George Scott runs out, he tries to go over the top to spinner Liam Dawson, cloths it - and Mohammad Abbas takes a comfortable catch at mid-on.

That ends a 65-run stand with Miles Hammond.

237 still needed by the visitors. Seven wickets needed by Hampshire. The balance tilts towards the hosts.

Skipper Graeme van Buuren is the new man in to join Hammond, who is on 28.

Harry Duke has now departed for 12 - but check out that earlier escape we mentioned.

It won't matter much in the grand scheme of things - but how did the bails stay on here?

Yorkshire have added a couple of runs since Duke was caught and have now passed the 450 mark.
