    Duke c Cook b Harmer 12 (Essex 403 v Yorkshire 448-7)

A first home scalp of the summer for Simon Harmer, who went wicketless in Essex's previous game at Chelmsford against Northants.

Harry Duke tries to reverse sweep the South Africa off-break bowler but gets it wrong and Sir Alastair Cook shows there's still plenty of running in his 37-year-old legs by sprinting around from slip to take a good catch.

Not good news for Middlesex at Hove, where fielder Robbie White has suffered what looks like a worrying injury.

    Hampshire 342 & 204, Gloucestershire 179 & 130-2

George Scott and Miles Hammond have completed their half-century partnership at Southampton . . . and counting.

Scott has patiently moved on to a career-best 76, while Hammond is on 28.

19 needed added so far today. Gloucestershire need another 238 to win.

Kyle Abbott has opted for a new tack and tried coming in round the wicket. Still no breakthrough though.

Jim Dale: Big appeal from Sam Cook for caught behind but looking at the replay it's taken a massive deflection off the stump without removing the bail. Chelmsford has been a hard enough hunting ground for bowlers these days without not getting wickets for hitting the stumps.

Peter Stones: Essex batting for a draw on day two killed this game. Waste.

Big let-off for Yorkshire's Harry Duke as a Sam Cook delivery appears to feather his stumps without dislodging the bails!

It travels through to wicketkeeper Adam Rossington - how did it not knock the bails off going at that pace? Huge escape for Duke.

  7. Worcester weather confounds the light meterpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec & 170-1, Worcestershire 309 &105-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Despite overnight rain and gloomy conditions in Worcester this morning, we have started on time here.

The light meter app on my phone suggested otherwise.

Durham have the final day to try and take the eight remaining Worcestershire wickets to gain their first win of the season.

The hosts, set an improbable 442 to win, have to bat out the day. On a flattish looking track that might be easier to do. Durham haven't bowled a team out twice this season.

The last time they faced a final day like this a few weeks ago Leicestershire made it through the day for the loss of just two wickets. Maybe on this occasion the overcast conditions may help. We'll see.

  8. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

Decent start to day four for Sussex, who have added 18 runs to their overnight 236-3 against Middlesex, moving on to 254-3 with Cheteshwar Pujara unbeaten on 139 off 167 balls.

Leicestershire have also negotiated the first 20 minutes of the day with few alarms, edging up to 170-7 as they bid to avoid defeat at Glamorgan - the visitors' lead up to 53 runs with three wickets remaining.

The Foxes will surely need to bat well into the afternoon session though to achieve that goal.

  9. 100 runs

100 up for Worcestershirepublished at 11:17 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

Hundred up for Worcestershire against Durham at New Road.

Solid start to the day from Azhar Ali and Jack Haynes.

Their partnership, 50 overnight, is slowly mounting.

    Davies c Jennings b Bailey 10 (Warwickshire 315 and 14-1, Lancashire 361)

Tom Bailey bags his former Lancashire team-mate Alex Davies for the second time in the match.

Not a happy first return to Manchester for Davies.

Still another 32 needed to wipe out the hosts' first-innings lead as Rob Yates comes to the crease.

  11. Postpublished at 11:16 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Essex 403 v Yorkshire 428-6

Harry Duke has taken a couple of singles after that early blow for Yorkshire.

Difficult to see either side claiming victory given we are still in the first innings.

But Essex were delighted with that early wicket of Dawid Malan - they don't want Yorkshire piling on runs and giving them a big first-innings lead, just in case.

And it's always nice to break a double-century partnership after so much unrewarded toil on Saturday.

  12. Sean Dickson and his tonspublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Durham 580-6 dec & 171-1 dec, Worcestershire 309 & 85-2

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

After the brutal brilliance of Ben Stokes on Friday, it might be easy to forget that two of the four centuries Durham have scored in this game came from the same man.

South African opener Sean Dickson yesterday joined a select club, having become only the fifth Durham batsman to score 100 in both innings of a first-class match.

He followed his 104 at New Road on Thursday with another 105.

His century came in 69 balls and, had it not been for Stokes' explosive 64-ball hundred the previous day, Dickson would hold the record for the fastest 100 for the club, previously Paul Collingwood's off 75 balls at Taunton in 2005 - and this week now relegated to third.

Collingwood is one of the other four Durham men to score hundreds in both innings.

The others are the late Dean Jones, Keaton Jennings and Scott Borthwick. The latter two both did it in 2016.

WICKETpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Malan c Khushi b Snater 87 (Essex 403 v Yorkshire 426-6)

    An early breakthrough at Chelmsford.

Just the second ball of the day breaks the 211-run partnership between Harry Brook and Dawid Malan.

In truth, Brook was a tad fortunate to escape Shane Snater's first delivery, a somewhat lucky single moving him on to 111.

But Malan clips the next ball straight to square leg where Feroze Khushi takes a routine catch.

Surrey are threatening to open up a nice cushion at the top of the County Championship after continuing their unbeaten start with a three-day win over Northants.

It's still early days, of course, but can any of the sides chasing them close the gap today?

Second-placed Hampshire are involved in a game that could go either way against Gloucestershire, while Lancashire - who host Warwickshire - will need something special to avoid a draw as will Essex and Yorkshire at Chelmsford.

The unpredictable British weather has mostly behaved itself during the opening few rounds of this year's County Championship.

That hopefully should continue, with a forecast suggesting the country will remain dry for much of the day.

However, it's a gloomy morning in Worcestershire, potentially hindering Durham's quest to wrap up a Division Two victory at New Road.

And it's a similar scenario in Manchester where Lancashire face Warwickshire.

Let's hope the sun comes out, and stays out, as the morning progresses.

  19. Good morning and welcomepublished at 10:46 British Summer Time 8 May 2022

    Welcome back.

One more day to go in this fifth round of County Championship fixtures.

Surrey's players can put their feet up and enjoy a bit of a lie-in after the Division One leaders got the job done inside three days against Northamptonshire at The Oval, where they completed their third win of the season.

But there are six more games still going.

Two of the Division One games - Essex v Yorkshire at Chelmsford and Lancashire v Warwickshire in Manchester - look destined to end in a draw, but Gloucestershire have so far made a good fist of chasing 368 to beat Hampshire at Southampton.

The first result today may well come in Cardiff

In Division Two, Glamorgan look on course to beat bottom club Leicestershire - and Worcestershire will be battling just to save, rather than win the game against Durham at New Road. But Sussex are in a position at Hove to declare and set Middlesex an interesting challenge.

Weather permitting, of course, we hope you can stick around with us all day to see how the drama unfolds - whether you're a reader, a listener, a quick scoreboard glancer, or preferably all three.
