    Lancashire 103-8 v Essex 391

About half-an-hour or so ago it looked as if Lancashire's innings would be brought to a halt well before they reached double figures.

Phil Salt is hanging in there and has helped move his side from a forlorn 60-8 to over the 100-run mark.

He's six runs short of what would be an impressive half-century in the circumstances.

However, despite his good work, Lancashire remain more than 290 runs behind.

No joy for the Notts bowlers after Stuart Broad's early dismissal of Shan Masood.

Brooke Guest (12*) and Billy Godleman (10*) are mainly dealing in singles as they try to reduce the gap to Notts' first innings score.

Steady progress sees Derbyshire trail by 75 runs.

    Ben CoxImage source, Rex Features

Ben Cox reverse sweeps Rehan Ahmed's leg-spin for four to reach a 41-ball half-century and the Worcestershire declaration comes at the end of the over.

It is their highest total against Leicestershire and they lead by 429. Only the most optimistic Foxes follower would back them to extricate themselves from this situation.

Cox finishes on 52, with loan signing Matthew Waite 13 not out.

    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham took a couple of wickets in the first hour this morning. Ben Stokes got his second of the game as Josh De Caires edged him to the keeper on four, then Ben Raine bowled Peter Handscomb around his legs when he was on 14.

However, Sam Robson has gone on to 58 not out and is doing his bit to hold things together for the hosts.

There are a few people here in Sunderland tops who will be heading off to Wembley for the League One play off final later. I wonder if they will return in a happy mood?

    Bess c McAndrew b Briggs 1 (Yorks 327-6 v Warwicks 244)

Dom Bess, new to the crease, comes down the track to Danny Briggs and tries to hit down the ground, but the ball skews off the outside edge and Nathan McAndrew takes the catch.

That was a pretty poor shot and it gives Warwickshire a second bowling point.

    Barker c Lammonby b Leach 36 (Somerset 211 v Hampshire 220-7)

    Somerset needed that one!

Hampshire had just crept ahead at Taunton but Jack Leach has removed Keith Barker who is caught at mid-wicket after miscuing a pull shot.

Barker's partnership with Aneurin Donald (35*) was a valuable one and Somerset will be glad to have broken it.

  15. Injured Lawrence watches onpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Dan LawrenceImage source, Rex Features

Essex and England batter Dan Lawrence is looking a little glum as he watches on from the stands.

It was a mixed day for him yesterday as he picked up his first century of the season but suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

He's set to undergo a scan today to determine the extent of the damage.

Fingers crossed it won't keep him out for too long and at least he can feel a little heartened by how his team is dominating proceedings at Old Trafford.

    Lancashire 60-8 v Essex 391

Two wickets in quick succession and Lancashire are firmly staring down the barrel.

Sam Cook gets his second wicket of the morning as Tom Bailey is trapped lbw for one, before Shane Snater has Hassan Ali caught at second slip without scoring.

Bailey and Ali went in the space of eight balls.

How much longer is this Lancashire innings going to last?

    Northants 62-2 v Kent 519-9 dec

Kent call up Jas Singh for his first bowl of the innings, but he is put away through point by Matt Kelly for four runs.

Singh isn't quick enough to bowl that sort of length - even to a nightwatchman.- and when he tries to adjust, he overpitches and Kelly drives impressively for another boundary.

The Australian is 19 not out and Ricardo Vasconcelos has 25.

    Stuart BroadImage source, Rex Features

England's Stuart Broad strikes with his third ball of the day!

Broad comes around the wicket and catches Shan Masood cold as he finds the pad and it's a straightforward decision for the umpire.

That's a blow for Masood as that was his last chance to reach 1,000 runs before the end of May.

His 18 in the first innings brought him on to 844 and that's where he stays after a duck in the second courtesy of Broad.

First breakthrough of the day for Essex!

Luke Wood tried to drive Sam Cook down the ground but only succeeds in edging behind to Adam Rossington.

Plenty of work to do for the hosts who are still 332 behind.
