    Azhar b Wright 225 (Worcs 492-5 v Leics 148)

    Azhar AliImage source, Rex Features

A slighty strange dismissal ends Azhar Ali's magnificent innings at New Road as he moves across his stumps but then leans back to try and cut. The ball is too close to him for that stroke and he is bowled.

Azhar batted for 446 minutes, faces 350 balls and hit a six and 22 fours. Ben Cox is the new batter as Worcestershire's total nears 500.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    De Caires c Eckersley b Stokes 4 (Middx 104-3 v Durham 350)

The current England Test captain dismisses the son of one of his predecessors as Josh de Caires attempts a flashing drive but edges to the keeper. Wonder what his dad (Michael Atherton) would make of that.

    Yorks 289-4 v Warwicks 244

Two fours in an over for Adam Lyth, who smacks Oliver Hannon-Dalby away square and then finds the third man boundary with a deliberate deflection past first slip. He progresses to 131 not out.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Pattinson c Hughes b Potts 21 (Notts 358 v Derbyshire 260)

James Pattinson smashes Nick Potts away over square leg for six.

He wants another maximum from the next ball but picks out Alex Hughes, just inches inside the rope at mid-wicket.

Notts have a lead of 98 - and Potts finishes with figures of 4-50.

We should also mention the 4-93 by Sam Conners - is it just us or does he bear a slight resemblance to Gaz Coombes of Supergrass?

    Northants 47-2 v Kent 519-9 dec

No joy yet for Kent at Wantage Road, but Grant Stewart did find the edge of nightwatchman Matt Kelly's bat, only for the ball to run away past the slip cordon for four runs.

    Lancashire 45-5 v Essex 391

Steady start for Phil Salt and Luke Wood, who are both on 11 not out, as Lancashire try to eat into Essex's rather large advantage.

The rain yesterday meant only 40 overs were possible but Essex used them wisely as they skittled Lancashire's top order.

for Sam Robsonpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Middlesex 104-2 v Durham 350

There are those who felt Sam Robson's eight-year exile from Test cricket should have been ended when England named their squad to play New Zealand at Lord's.

He didn't make the squad, but a boundary off Ben Stokes takes him to an 80-ball fifty to go with the hundreds he made in his last two games for Middlesex.

  8. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

Leicestershire have their first wick of the day at New Road as Wiaan Mulder has Brett D'Oliveira lbw for 54 - but Azhar Ali is still that on 220 in Worcestershire's 481-4.

Sam Robson is closing on a fifty for Middlesex at Lord's - the home side are 99-2 in the 28th over, replying to Durham's 350 all out.

Stuart Broad didn't last long at Trent Bridge - he was bowled by Sam Conners for three and Notts are 352-9. Paceman Conners now has four wickets.

    Brown lbw Siddle 19 (Somerset 211 v Hampshire 152-6)

Well, Hampshire haven't been able to make that positive start they wanted.

Peter Siddle steams in and Ben Brown fails to pick the line and the ball crashes into his pads as he tries to defend.

Up goes the umpire's finger and down goes Brown's head.

Great start from Somerset who have started where they left off last night.

    Somerset 211 v Hampshire 152-5

Hampshire need to make a positive start to the morning to find their feet again after Somerset fought back strongly in yesterday's evening session.

It was a day when Craig Overton claimed his 400th first-class wicket and he's straight back into the action this morning.

Ben Brown and Aneurin Donald are at the crease for Hampshire, who trail by 59.

The first wicket of the day has gone at Trent Bridge.

Liam Patterson-White plays across the line and the umpire raises the finger - that's three in the innings now for Nick Potts.

The 19-year-old pace bowler from Burton-on-Trent is playing only his third first-class game.

    Northants 31-2 v Kent 519-9 dec

It's a survival mission for Northants over the next two days - but who will be their Bear Grylls?

Ricardo Vasconcelos picks up a single in Darren Stevens' opening over before driving Grant Stewart confidently for four in the next.

    Yorks 270-4 v Warwicks 244

Warwickshire will want to get rid of Adam Lyth before he can settle this morning. Oliver Hannon-Dalby has the ball in hand and the left-hander picks up a single to move to 119 not out. It's the only run of a tidy first over.

  15. Play under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

There will be an extended morning session at Headingley to make up eight of the overs lost to the weather yesterday, and we imagine a similar scenario will be the case at other grounds too. Anyway, time for action.

    Lancashire 32-5 v Essex 391

Matt Critchley (right) was sent out as a runner for Dan LawrenceImage source, Rex Features

Essex and England batter Dan Lawrence will have a scan today after suffering a recurrence of a hamstring injury while batting on day two at Old Trafford.

Lawrence had to call for a runner when the problem which first affected him during last month's game against Warwickshire flared up again.

"We just hope it's not too severe - but till we get the results from the specialist we won't know the severity of it," head coach Anthony McGrath told BBC Essex.

Lawrence was eventually out for 120, his first century of the season.

  18. Bears can still win - Rhodespublished at 10:48 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Yorkshire 269-4 v Warwickshire 244

    Will RhodesImage source, Getty Images

Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes insists his side are not out of the game at Headingley despite Adam Lyth's unbeaten century steering Yorkshire into a first-innings lead.

"It's probably the best we've bowled for a long time as a unit. There was a period in the middle session under lights when we beat the bat a lot, but that's part of the game," Rhodes told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

"We knew their top order would get the bulk of the runs but there's a lot of inexperience in their lower order and I think we can capitalise on that."

He added: "Last year we were behind in a lot of games and came back to win. No reason why we can't do that again."

  19. Lancashire 'firmly on back foot'published at 10:46 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Lancashire 32-5 v Essex 391 (match resumes 11:00)

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

I'm not sure what would have been gloomier, the skies above Emirates Old Trafford or the feeling in the home dressing when the players went off for tea and never returned last night.

However, new day and new optimism and all that.

This certainly will be Lancashire's most challenging day of the season so far. Tipped to be title winners by many, it's taken until the sixth round of fixtures for them to be firmly on the back foot.

  20. Northants receive 'a bit of a slap'published at 10:43 British Summer Time 21 May 2022

    Northants 21-2 v Kent 519-9 dec (match resumes 11:00)

Northants head coach John Sadler said he could not fault his bowlers despite Kent piling up the runs on day two.

Grant Stewart raced to 61 off 44 balls, including five sixes, to push the total beyond 500 after Ben Compton's 140 laid the foundation.

"They kept running in, there wasn't really much assistance from the pitch. Fair play to Kent, they put themselves in a position where they could have a bit of a slap at the end at that's what happens in four-day cricket," Sadler told BBC Radio Northampton.

The home side hope Lewis McManus will be able to bat despite injuring a finger - and also plan to extend his loan spell from Hampshire for the rest of the season.
