Essex made short work of Lancashire on the final day, which ended with Middlesex beating Durham after Ben Stokes was out for a duck.

Surrey lead Division One by four points from Hampshire and Middlesex are the new leaders of Division Two, nine points ahead of Notts.

    Middlesex 422 & 112-4 v Durham 350 & 188

Just a matter of time now for Middlesex.

Durham have certainly put up a fight but their second innings total was never going to be enough to defend - barring something miraculous.

A four from John Simpson means Middlesex need five to win.

    Holden c Borthwick b Trevaskis 9 (Middlesex 422 & 89-4 v Durham 350 & 188)

    Nervy!

The spin of Liam Trevaskis does for Max Holden who is caught by Scott Borthwick at first slip.

The hosts only need 28 but they are four down now.

They just need to keep their heads in the remaining overs surely?

  11. Postpublished at 16:54 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Middlesex 422 & 88-3 v Durham 350 & 188

Peter Handscomb has batted very well since joining the action.

He's just hit his fourth four of the innings and is now on 29 from 38 balls.

Remember he will be leaving the club following the end of today's game.

    They only need 29 now.

  12. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE DRAW WITH KENTpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 22 May 2022
    Breaking

    Northamptonshire 430 v Kent 519-9 dec & 170-1 dec

Ben Compton's boundary off Ben Curran is the final scoring stroke at Wantage Road as Kent declare their second innings and the game comes to an end.

Compton is 68 not out - and he has scored 878 runs in six games at an average of 109.75.

Northants earlier managed to add 83 to their overnight 347-7, saving the follow-on, with Lewis McManus scoring 58 not out.

Compton then put on 149 with Zak Crawley (84) and Kent take 13 points, and Northants 12. Both teams are still waiting for their first win.

  13. YORKSHIRE DRAW WITH WARWICKSHIREpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 22 May 2022
    Breaking

    Yorkshire 449 v Warwickshire 244 & 252-3

A tidy over from Joe Root, costing him only a single, and the two sides shake hands on the draw.

You have to give credit and respect to Will Rhodes and Sam Hain, who batted for 27 overs yesterday for only 32 runs, and continued their defiance throughout the final day ay Headingley.

Rhodes finishes with 111 not out off 297 balls and Hain has 109 from 332, with their unbroken partnership worth 227.

Yorkshire take 14 points and Warwickshire 11.

Wonder what it would take to disturb Ben Compton's concentration.

If you've ever snuck up behind him and burst a balloon, let us know how he reacted.

Ben Curran sends down a low full toss outside leg stump and the Kent opener sweeps fine for another four to move to 68 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Yorks 449 v Warwicks 244 & 250-3

Harry Brook is now doing a bowling stint for Yorkshire. Two runs for Sam Hain takes the Warwickshire total to 250. The lead is 45.

    de Caires b Borthwick 12 (Middlesex 422 & 69-3 v Durham 350 & 188)

Durham certainly aren't making this run chase easy for Middlesex.

Scott Borthwick gets one to turn back in to the stumps and Josh de Caires doesn't get any bat on it as it goes straight through onto his wicket.

A series of dot balls follow with Middlesex needing another 48 for victory.

Another quick wicket would make this very interesting!

  17. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Northants 430 v Kent 519-9 dec & 153-1

Time for bowler number nine and it's Northants skipper Ricardo Vasconcelos. Another player without a first-class wicket - can he emulate team-mate Ben Curran by claiming a first scalp?

Not like that. His first ball is very ordinary fare and Ben Compton helps it on its way for four runs.

  18. Postpublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Middlesex 422 & 69-2 v Durham 350 & 188

Another couple of fours in that over from Peter Handscomb, this time off the bowling of Scott Borthwick.

It's been announced this afternoon that this will be Handscomb's final game for Middlesex.

After this game he will be joining up with Australia A for their series against Sri Lanka A, before then returning home to Australia for family reasons.

So a fine knock to take his team to victory here will be the perfect way to say farewell.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 22 May 2022

    Crawley c Kelly b Curran 84 (Northants 430 v Kent 519-9 dec & 149-1)

Quite a moment for Ben Curran - it's his maiden first-class wicket and his victim is an England Test player.

Zak Crawley tries to clear mid-wicket, but has to fetch it from outside off stump and doesn't achieve the necessary elevation.

Will Rhodes square cuts Dom Bess for four.

The opportunity was there for Yorkshire today, but with a depleted attack, they just haven't been able to capitalise.

You can't take anything away from the two Warwickshire batters, though.
