    Kent 181-4 v Northants 303

Northants have rattled through some overs of spin with Simon Kerrigan and Rob Keogh and they go to tea at an acceptable time.

But during this period of spin, Kent have recovered well.

They were in a tricky spot at 136-4 but Jack Leaning, on 36, and Jordan Cox, 14, have begun a stand to put the match back on an even keel.

    Surrey 47-0 v Yorkshire 521

Surrey's openers have seen off the Yorkshire new-ball pair.

It's Steven Patterson and Matthew Waite operating in tandem now.

Rory Burns is 25 not out and Ryan Patel has 11.

  3. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Essex 310 v Gloucs 136

The umpires decide tea will be taken following the end of the Essex first innings.

An excellent fightback by Gloucestershire this afternoon after the home side resumed on 222-3.

But they are going to have to bat a lot better than they did on the opening day to extricate themselves from this situation.

Ben Raine and Tom Mackintosh have so far put on 65 for Durham's eight wicket and they are 207-7 against Derbyshire.

Lyndon James was caught off Michael Hogan for 50, but Matthew Montgomery is still there on 66 not out, with Notts 238-4 against Glamorgan.

Sam Robson has given a return catch to Joe Leach and departed for 35, with Middlesex now 73-3, a lead over Worcestershire of 70.

  5. for Zafar Goharpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Essex 310 v Gloucs 136

Jamie Porter tries to square cut, doesn't get over the top of it and Gloucestershire spinner Zafar Gohar has a five-for, thanks to Graeme van Buuren's catch, as Essex's first innings comes to an end.

Very few would have foreseen that when they were 267-4, with Alastair Cook already 100+ to the good.

He eventually fell for 145 as Essex lost their last four wickets for 11 runs in three overs. The lead, though, is 174.

  6. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Hampshire 238-5 v Warwicks 217

Liam Dawson is still going along nicely at the Ageas Bowl. A couple of runs off George Garrett take the all-rounder to 84 not out. Ben Brown has four at the other end and the lead is 21.

  7. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Surrey 33-0 v Yorks 521

That's a no-ball by Shannon Gabriel and that's an easy four runs through mid-wicket for Rory Burns.

There's another no-ball later in the over and Gabriel's four so far have cost 26 runs.

    Harmer c O Price b Higgins 0 (Essex 309-9 v Gloucs 136)

Simon Harmer pushes forward, ball finds the edge and Ollie Price takes a low catch at second slip.

The wickets keep on falling at Chelmsford....that's three in 12 balls now.

  9. wicket

    Rossington lbw Gohar 21 (Essex 305-8 v Gloucs 136)

Suddenly this Essex innings is running out of steam.

Adam Rossington is lbw sweeping and left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar now has four wickets.

Essex have lost five since lunch.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Cook c Bracey b Higgins 145 (Essex 299-7 v Gloucs 136)

    Ryan HigginsImage source, Rex Features

That was a very un-Cook like shot by Alastair Cook, playing well away from his body and edging to the keeper.

No wonder there is an irritated swish of the bat over the stumps by the former England captain, who made his runs from 311 balls faced, with 17 fours.

Simon Harmer is the new batter and Essex have one and a bit overs to pick up a third batting point.

  12. wicket

WICKET Denly c Neesham b Procter 63published at 15:14 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Kent 136-4 v Northants 303

Big wicket but a shocker for Joe Denly.

A full ball at the stumps and he's tapped it firmly to midwicket.

    Northants now firmly on top.

A mighty 15 overs to tea. Goodness lads.

  13. Postpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Lancs 18-0 v Somerset 446

Steady away for Luke Wells and Keaton Jennings with a lot of work to do to get back in this one.

Amar Virdi - on a one-match loan from Surrey - given a very early try.

    12 overs to tea.

  14. for Callum Parkinsonpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Sussex 588-9 v Leicestershire

    Callum ParkinsonImage source, Rex Features

He's had to do a lot of bowling but Callum Parkinson takes five wickets in an innings for the fifth time as James Coles is stumped by Harry Swindells for 59.

It has been a dominant display by Sussex, built around Tom Alsop's 150, after losing opener Tom Haines with a broken hand.

A lot of hard graft required now from Leicestershire to save this game.

  15. Postpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Surrey 19-0 v Yorks 521

Shannon Gabriel is certainly working up a fair head of steam in his first spell for Yorkshire - but Ryan Patel is able to use the pace to run the ball down to third man for four in his second over.

Patel and Rory Burns both have seven.

    Holland c Burgess b Briggs 99 (Hampshire 215-5 v Warwicks 217)

Cricket can be an awfully cruel game at times.

After sweeping Danny Briggs' previous delivery for four, Ian Holland makes a belated decision to try and cut the next one and edges a catch to the keeper.

He cannot believe it. He leans on his bat, stares at the pitch for several seconds and then turns and starts the long walk.

Holland batted for 309 minutes, faced 203 balls and hit 13 fours - and his stand with Liam Dawson, who is on 65, added 137.

  17. 6 runs

Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Essex 293-6 v Gloucs 136

Adam Rossington is not one to be tied down and he deposits Zafar Gohar beyond the mid-wicket boundary for the first six of Essex's innings. He is already 13 not out and Alastair Cook continues his serene progress, on 141.

  18. Division Two round-up: 50 for Montgomerypublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

Well played, Matthew Montgomery, who has marked his maiden Championship innings with a half-century for Notts - who are 199-3, replying to Glamorgan's 318 all out.

Derbyshire are continuing to work their way through the Durham batting line-up at the Riverside, where the home side are now 164-7.

Dillon Pennington removed Mark Stoneman and Jack Davies in the space of three balls and Middlesex are 54-2 at Northwood, a lead of 51 over Worcestershire.

James Coles is the latest Sussex batter to reach 50 and they are 582-8 against Leicestershire, with Coles 58 not out.

  19. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Yorks 521 v Surrey 0-0

Surrey begin their reply at North Marine Road and it's a maiden by Jordan Thompson to Rory Burns first up.

West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel will take the new ball from the other end.

  20. Postpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Hampshire 200-4 v Warwicks 217

Two runs to Ian Holland off OHD and Hampshire have a batting point.

Holland is now 93 not out and hoping to complete his first Championship hundred, since he scored 114 against Gloucestershire on the same ground in April 2021.
