    Essex 199-1 v Gloucs 136

Alastair Cook moves into the 90s by driving spinner Miles Hammond square for his 11th four.

Two balls later a full toss outside off stump is despatched by Tom Westley and the over ends with a long hop outside leg which runs past the diving keeper for four byes.

Essex's first batting point is a single away.

Peter Siddle only lasts seven balls and Lancashire have two in two overs.

Second catch of the morning for Jack Morley running around from long leg.

  4. wicket

WICKET Goldsworthy c Vilas b Balderson 130published at 12:17 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 360-7

End of a fine innings from Lewis Goldsworthy.

His maiden first-class century rescued his side from 105-4 yesterday and he's managed 27 more this morning.

Important wicket for Lancashire so things don't get out of hand.

But a lucky one as George Balderson's second ball of the day brings a leg side strangle.

  5. wicket

    WICKET Bell-Drummond c Gay b Neesham 17published at 12:14 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Kent 30-2 v Northants 303

A second strike for Northants and Jimmy Neesham has the wicket.

A good delivery too, full of length and it straightens enough to catch a very health edge from Daniel Bell-Drummond that's well caught at second slip by Emilio Gay reaching up to his left.

  6. 350 up for Somersetpublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

Roelof van der Merwe has wasted no time at Southport.

He's swung Will Williams for six and struck consecutive boundaries off Tom Bailey.

Lewis Goldsworthy has extended his maiden century to 122 in the opening hour.

350 comes up for Somerset but an over too late for an extra point.

    Essex 179-1 v Gloucs 136

If yesterday was tough for Gloucestershire, today could be even tougher, unless they can break this partnership very soon.

Only one run from the latest Miles Hammond over before Tom Westley turns his final delivery round the corner for four.

Westley is 79, Alastair Cook has 84 and they have so far added 172.

They hold the Essex second-wicket record against Gloucestershire - 222 on the same ground in 2016.

  8. Postpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Yorkshire 379-5 v Surrey

Adam Lyth's driving was a delight yesterday, and there's another one as he finds the boundary at the start of a new Dan Worrall over.

Two balls later, the left-hander has a stroke of a luck as a big inside edge runs away fine for another four.

Lyth is now 165 not out, and Jonny Tattersall is still with him on 111.

  9. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

Another wicket for Derbyshire at the Riverside as Toby Pettman bowls Scott Borthwick, playing no stroke, for 13, leaving Durham 34-3 in the 13th over.

Oli Carter and Delray Rawlins are continuing to build their partnership for Sussex, who are 465-4 against Leicestershire - with Carter on 70.

Notts have lost Ben Slater, bowled by James Harris for 31, but Haseeb Hameed is 33 not out in their score of 78-1 against Glamorgan.

Tom Price overpitches and Alastair Cook does little more than drop the bat on it to squeeze it into a big gap at cover and the ball runs away to the boundary. Cook is 80 not out, with Tom Westley on 74.

for Ed Barnardpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

Ed Barnard dabs a ball from Tom Helm down to third man for a single and reaches 50 off 79 balls.

He's running out of partners, though, if Worcestershire are to achieve parity with Middlesex's first-innings total at Merchant Taylors' School.

  14. wicket

WICKET Gregory c Morley b Williams 42published at 11:47 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Lancs v Somerset 328-6

It had been a confident start from Lewis Gregory with three boundaries.

But he's hooked Will Williams to long leg and Lancashire have secured a second bowling point with two overs to spare.

  15. Good start for Derbyshirepublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Durham 26-2 v Derbyshire 283

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It looks like a good day for bowling, under grey skies in Chester-le-Street. The lights are on, it remains humid and there's been a bit of rain about too.

Ben Aitchison, playing in his first Championship game of the season, got England opener Alex Lees lbw for seven with a delivery which nipped back in off the seam.

Durham were 10-1 at that point and 16-2 when nightwatchman Matt Salisbury edged Toby Pettman to the keeper on five.

It feels cooler than yesterday but is still around 21C and is muggy.

Nathan McAndrew overpitches twice in three deliveries and Kyle Abbott eases both through the covers for four with a minimum of fuss.

Abbott is 19 not out, Ian Holland has 32, and Warwickshire are still waiting for their first wicket of the day.

  18. Better news from Scarboroughpublished at 11:39 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

About 40 minutes has been lost but play is about to begin at North Marine Road. Adam Lyth will resume 152 not out, with Jonny Tattersall on 104.

  19. Near thing for Cookpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

    Essex 153-1 v Gloucs 136

The Essex total passes 150 with five runs for Alastair Cook.

England's former captain pushes to mid-on and sets off for a sharp single, and a shy at the stumps runs away for four overthrows.

Cook may have been gone if that had hit - but instead he is 70 not out, and Tom Westley has 67.

  20. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 12 July 2022

Sussex are continuing their run spree against Leicestershire and are now 432-4 - with Oli Carter 58 not out and Delray Rawlins on 21.

Ed Barnard is only two runs short of a 50 for Worcestershire, but they have just lost Gareth Roderick, caught off Tom Helm for 23, and are 120-6 against Middlesex, still 68 in arrears.

There's been a second wicket for Derbyshire as Matt Salisbury is caught off Toby Pettman - Durham are 16-2, replying to 283 all out by the visitors.
