  1. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Sussex 588-9 v Leicestershire 248-3

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

What a difference a run makes, as Rishi Patel danced down the wicket to the spin of James Coles and was stumped by Ollie Carter for 99 on the stroke of lunch.

Just one more run and he would have completed his maiden first-class hundred like Louis Kimber, who earlier reached that milestone before falling lbw to Steve Finn

Sussex will feel the door is slightly ajar having taken that wicket, especially with a new ball available just after the interval.

However, this still looks a good batting surface. Just 12 wickets have fallen in 220 overs, and Sussex have much hard work ahead if they are to take 17 in the remaining five sessions

  2. Lunch at Southportpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Lancs 271-1 v Somerset 446

The main question overnight was whether Luke Wells would get the one run required for his hundred.

He did so, but fell soon after for 109. That loss did nothing to stop the flow of runs, as Lancs piled on 107 in that opening session.

Keaton Jennings has also tonned up - he is 112 not out; Josh Bohannon has 43 at the other end.

Opening partnerships have been problematic for Glamorgan so far this season - but not today.

Eddie Byrom (101 not out) and captain David Lloyd (60) have put the Welsh county in control against Division Two leaders Nottinghamshire, guiding them to 172-1 at lunch and a lead of 205 runs.

Byrom has played imperiously so far, defending solidly and picking his moments to attack - such as one towering six off Liam Patterson-White which he plonked into the River Taff.

Glamorgan came into this match third in the table and, if they continue in this vein, the hosts might even consider declaring this evening against their promotion rivals.

  4. Lunch at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Essex 310 & 49-1 v Gloucs 136 & 252

Eight from Tom Price's second over takes us to lunch at Chelmsford, where Essex need only 30 more for their fourth win of the season.

Simon Harmer took 8-112 earlier on, giving him 13 wickets in the game, but the highlight of the morning was an innings of 81 by Zafar Gohar.

He hit three sixes and 10 fours in his 75-ball knock to eliminate the possibility of an innings defeat.

  5. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Yorkshire 521 v Surrey 281-3

Just a single for Ben Foakes in the final over of the session at North Marine Road, with Surrey adding 90 to their overnight 191-1.

Hashim Amla (79) and Jamie Smith (11) were the batters dismissed, but England opener Rory Burns remains on 131 not out from 253 balls, with 19 fours.

It's hard work for the home attack and at this stage it's very hard to see anything other than a draw in this game, with five sessions to go.

  6. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Kent 335 v Northants 303 & 27-0

Kent started the day 287-5, with the opportunity to build a strong first-innings lead, but Northants' bowlers did superbly to bundle them out for 335 - Ben Sanderson and Jack White both taking four-fer.

Since then, Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay have safely navigated their way to lunch - both openers relatively untroubled so far.

They will want to kick on after the break.

  7. Lunch at Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Hampshire 370-9 dec v Warwickshire 217 & 72-2

A sedate morning with 61 runs added by Warwickshire for the loss of Dom Sibley and Chris Benjamin.

Alex Davies bats through the entire session, playing out a maiden from Felix Organ to end it on 36 not out.

    Partner Dan Mousley has seven.

    Patel st Carter b Coles 99 (Sussex 588 v Leics 248-3)

On the stroke of lunch, Rishi Patel falls one short of a first first-class hundred.

The Leicestershire opener skips down to James Coles, but is deceived in the flight, and Oliver Carter whips off the bails.

    Gutting for the young man.

  9. 100 runs

for Eddie Byrompublished at 12:58 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Glamorgan 318 & 172-1 v Notts 285

He's had to be patient but a single off Joey Evison carries Eddie Byrom to a 154-ball century at Sophia Gardens.

It is the second of the season for the former Somerset left-hander but he loses partner David Lloyd for 62 in the next over, caught by Matthew Montgomery at first slip off Brett Hutton for 62.

It's been an excellent morning for Glamorgan, who lead by 204, but that is lunch.

  10. Postpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Essex 42-1 - target 79

Tom Price takes up the attack for Gloucestershire and is a little unlucky as he finds the edge of Nick Browne's bat but the ball runs away to third man for four.

Just 37 more needed now by Essex. Will they have lunch, or just keep going?

  11. Postpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Yorks 521 v Surrey 270-3

Two England players out there together for Surrey in Scarborough.

Ben Foakes is now at the crease, replacing Jamie Smith, and has a single so far, with Rory Burns 126 not out.

    Essex 37-1 - target 79

If losing Alastair Cook was a mild shock to the system for Essex, a pair of boundaries, one each for Tom Westley and Nick Browne, in Ryan Higgins' latest over should have restored a tranquil mood.

Zafar Gohar has four round the bat from the other end, but Browne uses his feet well before driving to the boundary.

    Benjamin c Brown b Barker 24 (Hants 370-9 dec v Warwicks 217 & 64-2)

The angle does for Chris Benjamin as he pushes forward to Keith Barker and Ben Brown moves smartly to his right to take the catch.

Benjamin put on 45 with Alex Davies (35 not out), who has now been joined by Dan Mousley, with the deficit 89.

  14. Postpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Kent 335 v Northants 303 & 16-0

A very steady start to Northants' second innings, as they move to 16-0 after four overs.

Emilio Gay has just played a sumptuous straight drive off Matt Milnes that raced away for four.

The game is afoot at Chelmsford as Alastair Cook plays down the wrong line to a ball from Ryan Higgins and his off stump is sent flying.

Surely Gloucestershire can't pull this off, can they?

    Smith c Tattersall b Bess 11 (Yorks 521 v Surrey 269-3)

Jamie Smith plays for turn which isn't there and the ball is safely taken off the edge by Jonny Tattersall.

    Durham 296 v Derbyshire 283 & 37-4

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

For the fifth time in his FC career, Chris Rushworth has taken 10 wickets in a game for Durham.

In the first innings he took 7-44 and in the second he now has 3-14 in 10 overs.

Having opened the bowling last night his run of dot balls stretched to 33 deliveries before Brooke Guest hit him for three today. But that brought Wayne Madsen on strike and he then went LBW for nine.

Rushworth has also claimed the wickets of Billy Godleman last night (for the eighth time) and Sam Conners.

The other wicket to fall today was an amazing moment of mis-judgement from Luis Reece. He left a perfectly straight ball from Matt Salisbury which thudded into his pads when he was on 12.

Derbyshire are rebuilding against Durham and are 70-4 - with first-innings centurion Leus du Plooy 20 not out - with a lead of 57.

Glamorgan's opening pair are still together in Cardiff - Eddie Byrom is 88 not out and David Lloyd has 52 - and they are 146-0, a lead of 179 over Nottinghamshire.

Still only one wicket this morning for Sussex at Hove, where Leicestershire are 226-2 with Rishi Patel 86 not out.
