  3. Postpublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 139-1

Ollie Price is under way at Taunton as he chops Lewis Gregory away square for four.

It's back-to-back boundaries as Marcus Harris squeezes the first ball of a new Kasey Aldridge down to third man. Not the Australian's finest moment - but they all count.

  4. 50 runs

for Sir Alastair Cookpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Kent v Essex 102-1

Sir Alastair CookImage source, Rex Features

Sir Alastair Cook tucks one away to bring up his half century.

Coming off 110 balls with five boundaries, this has been as unflustered as they come.

The 119th of his first-class career.

  5. Division Two round-uppublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Matthew MontgomeryImage source, Rex Features

A loose shot by Matthew Montgomery sees him caught at point off Ed Barnes for 43 and leaders Nottinghamshire are 104-4 in the 34th over against Leicestershire.

Derbyshire are 113-4 in the 36th against Durham, with Leus du Plooy 38 not out and Harry Came on 17.

Well batted, Ed Pollock, who has reached 50 off 100 balls against Glamorgan and Worcestershire are now 109-3 in the 37th - a very un-Pollock-like knock, but just what his team needs.

  6. wicket

WICKET Browne c&b Quinn 45published at 13:36 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Kent v Essex 101-1

    Breakthrough at Canterbury.

Nick Browne and Sir Alastair Cook had been cruising along, but Browne drives uppishly and gives Matt Quinn a return catch.

There is almost a sense of surprise about it. Let's see if Kent can capitalise.

  7. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 130-1

Marcus Harris crunches Lewis Gregory down the ground for four to advance to 55 not out.

There is rain in the area but Kasey Aldridge begins the next over to Ollie Price.

We've also taken a look at the Met Office forecast (see 13:29 entry) for Taunton. Oh dear! Not looking good. Let's hope they are wrong.

  8. 50 runs

for Keaton Jenningspublished at 13:30 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 101-0 v Yorkshire

Keaton Jennings nudges one off Dom Bess and that's his 50. It has taken 119 balls and there have been five fours.

His second of the summer, but he does have three centuries, including a mammoth 318 against Somerset at Southport.

A century partnership for him and Luke Wells, with not a single extra.

Waiting goes on at Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hampshire 31-1 v Northants

We've just had a quick look at the Met Office forecast for Southampton.

Apart from a 30% chance of a shower between 16:00 and 17:00, it should be dry until heavy rain sets in from 20:00 this evening.

Let's hope they are going to be able to get back out there for some more play fairly soon.

  10. wicket

WICKET Charlesworth c Davey b Aldridge 56published at 13:22 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 126-1

    Finally, a breakthrough for Somerset.

Ben Charlesworth tries a pull shot off Kasey Aldridge but top edges and Josh Davey makes no mistake with the catch.

He hit eight fours in his 120-ball knock and Ollie Price is the new batter.

  11. 50 runs

for Luke Wellspublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 93-0 v Yorkshire

Luke Wells brings up a single off Ben Coad to reach a nice half century - his fourth in the Championship this season.

It has come off 87 balls with six fours and a six and it is setting a good platform for Lancashire.

  12. 50 runs

for Marcus Harrispublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 125-0

Marcus Harris steers an overpitched Lewis Gregory delivery down to deep backward point for three runs and reaches 50 from 99 balls - his third half-century of the season to go with two hundreds.

He is also closing in on 600 runs for the season.

  13. wicket

    Notts 83-3 v Leics

Division Two leaders lose an early-afternoon wicket at Trent Bridge as Joe Clarke plays across the line and is leg-before to one from Ed Barnes that may have kept slightly low.

Matthew Montgomery, on 33, has now been joined by Lyndon James.

  14. ECB's dream scenariopublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 90-0 v Yorkshire

Back under way at Old Trafford in lovely late summer sunshine.

During the lunch break, spectators are allowed on the outfield and I saw a young lad playing cricket wearing a Birmingham Phoenix shirt.

The ECB's dream scenario - the Hundred bringing in new fans who then are tempted to the game's more traditional forms.

  17. 'This could be like 2012 or W1A'published at 13:08 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

The ECB's high-performance review has proposed reducing the amount of domestic cricket each summer, along with various other proposals, including a small top division in the Championship.

During the lunch interval at Old Trafford, here's what Lancashire chief executive Daniel Gidney said on the subject to BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra:

"Genuinely I have no idea what is going to happen. This could be like an episode of 2012 or W1A.

"I've been told that there is definitely going to be no reduction in County Championship cricket. But then I have also been told that has not been agreed.

"If I was a betting man, I would say there will be no reduction next year because of what has been put out there and what has been discussed.

"But ultimately there are still plans for a chairs' vote on 20 September and until you get to a point where you actually see a proposal or proposals and one of those has a change to the domestic schedule, you still need 12 out of 18 chairs to vote it through for that change to happen."

Resumption delayed at Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hampshire 31-1 v Northamptonshire

For anyone joining us later, there have only been 15 overs so far in the game between second-placed Hampshire and Northants because of rain.

The home side are 16 points behind leaders Surrey, who will have a game in hand after this round of matches as they are not involved.

It is therefore imperative James Vince & co find a way to win this match. All-rounder Liam Dawson is playing his final game of the season before joining the England T20 squad for the tour to Pakistan.

  20. Pollock forced to mix aggression with cautionpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Glamorgan 88-3 v Worcestershire - lunch

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It’s been an evenly-fought first session in Cardiff as Ed Pollock held together the Worcestershire innings to reach 40 not out after Brett D’Oliveira decided to bat under cloudy skies.

Pollock mixed his usual aggression with caution as wickets fell at the other end, Jake Libby playing across the line to James Harris for 12 before Timm van der Gugten removed Taylor Cornall, bowled for 16 playing no shot, and Jack Haynes, lbw for 13.

New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel bowled four tight overs without reward on his Glamorgan debut, with India opener Shubman Gill another new face in the home line-up.

Worcestershire’s Pakistan batter Azhar Ali, though, failed a late fitness test, while paceman Mohammad Hasnain is on Asia Cup duty.

Glamorgan awarded a county cap before the start to the Championship’s leading run-scorer Sam Northeast.
