  1. 'Untroubled progress' for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucestershire 115-0 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Curious that, for a game that Somerset must have been hoping not only to win, but to win quickly, given the weather forecast, they should have produced as flat a pitch as has been seen at Taunton all season.

There's been nothing much in it for the seamers, or indeed for Pakistan Test off-spinner Sajid Khan, making his Somerset debut.

George Bartlett couldn't quite hold onto a sharp chance at short leg off Khan, but otherwise the Gloucestershire openers have made pretty much untroubled progress.

A fine effort after being asked to bat by Kent.

Marcus Harris runs the ball down to third man with soft hands for four runs and a single off Josh Davey follows to take him to 47 not out.

Ben Charlesworth ends a highly satisfactory morning for Gloucestershire on 56 with one run to end the over.

Somerset have tried five bowlers - where is a breakthrough going to come from?

  5. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 90-0 v Yorkshire

The ideal session for Lancashire. Win the toss, no wickets down, reasonable scoring rate.

Keaton Jennings is on 42 not out, Luke Wells has 48.

  6. Gloucs pair post century standpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 100-0

Marcus Harris tucks Josh Davey off his pads for a single and Gloucestershire have a 100 partnership for their first wicket.

Harris moves to 38 not out and Ben Charlesworth has 52. This is very much not what Somerset were expecting at the start of play.

  7. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:14 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 83-0 v Yorkshire

Luke Wells uses his feet nicely to send Dom Bess over the rope for a maximum.

But when Bess flights up another one, Wells hits it straight to mid-on but Steve Patterson drops it. That was a straightforward chance.

Not a good moment for the former captain as that is the only real chance Yorkshire have had all morning.

  8. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

Leaders Nottinghamshire are now 59-2 in the 23rd over against Leicestershire, with Matthew Montgomery on 22 not out.

First-class debutant Michael Finan has bowled four overs so far at a cost of 21 runs.

Worcestershire are 80-3 after 24 overs against Glamorgan following the dismissal of Jack Haynes, lbw to Timm van der Gugten for 13. Opener Ed Pollock is 37 not out.

  9. Good morning for Durhampublished at 12:08 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Derbyshire 62-4 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

It's a lovely day in Derby. Sunny and warm. But following overnight rain Durham decided to put Derbyshire in and had instant results on a track with quite a bit of greenery on it.

Chris Rushworth had Luis Reece caught behind second ball of the game for four and later saw off Wayne Madsen in the same manner for nine.

Derbyshire must hate facing Rushworth. He now has 68 wickets against them in first-class matches. Ben Raine has taken the other two wickets, bowling Billy Godleman for two and Brooke Guest for 33.

Durham Coach James Franklin is here. The club announced on Saturday he will be leaving at the end of the season after four mixed years at the club. This is Durham's 30th year in first-class cricket and results-wise it has been one of their worst.

They have had their worst run in the T20 and the One-Day Cup and have managed just one win in 10 in the County Championship.

  10. Early lunch at Ageas Bowlpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hants 31-1 v Northants

It's almost half an hour before the scheduled lunch interval at the Ageas Bowl, so the grub providers will have to get a wiggle on as the umpires have decided to take it early because of rain.

Will the sushi be fully defrosted? Or maybe they're just having cheese and pickle sandwiches and an isotonic drink.

  11. From captain to fifth choicepublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 66-0 v Yorkshire

Steve Patterson is into his second over with the ball as he adjusts to his role back in the ranks.

This is Patterson's first red-ball game since he stepped down as captain in July with Jonny Tattersall taking over as captain.

But from calling all the shots to being the fifth bowler into the action is a bit of a comedown for the 38-year-old as his Yorkshire career winds down.

  12. 50 runs

for Ben Charlesworthpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 92-0

    Ben CharlesworthImage source, Getty Images

There's that Ben Charlesworth cover drive again and like most of them this morning, it brings him a boundary - eight in all.

He flashes one through backward point off the back foot for two runs and reaches 79-ball half-century - his first in the Championship this summer (in only his third match).

  13. rain stops play

Postpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Hants 31-1 v Northants

No resumption yet at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire really need to win this match with leaders Surrey not in action this week, so any time lost is bad news for them.

  14. wicket

WICKET Guest b Raine 33published at 11:57 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Durham v Derbyshire 58-4

Another setback for Division Two promotion hopefuls Derbyshire as Brooke Guest is cleaned up by Ben Raine.

The better did very little wrong there, but a smidgen of away movement beats his defensive stroke and the ball clips the off stump.

  15. Postpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Kent v Essex 53-0

Almost a breakthrough as Nick Browne edges one from Matt Milnes, but the ball does not quite carry to first slip.

Kent have not really bowled enough balls in that area in this morning session.

  16. Postpublished at 11:52 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 81-0

Sajid Khan drops short in his first over for Somerset and Ben Charlesworth punches it away through the off-side for four.

The bowler doesn't learn the lesson and Charlesworth repeats the shot to advance to 43 not out.

  17. Don't bowl there to Cookpublished at 11:49 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Kent v Essex 53-0

Sir Alastair CookImage source, Getty Images

The half-century partnership is up for Essex as Sir Alastair Cook hits Grant Stewart to the boundary for four.

Short of a length with a bit of width outside off, Cook has made a career of putting those to the fence.

It reminds me of the Australian bowlers toiling away against him in the 2010/11 Ashes series Down Under.

  18. Postpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Somerset v Gloucs 73-0

Marcus Harris off drives Kasey Aldridge for four.

He then throws the bat at a wide one - it's slightly uppish but finds the backward point boundary.

Undaunted, the Australian plays same the stroke to a no-ball with the same result as the over costs Aldridge 14.

Time for Pakistan spinner Sajid Khan.

  19. Wells on the chargepublished at 11:46 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

    Lancashire 52-0 v Yorkshire

Luke Wells plunders 11 off a Matthew Waite over as the 50 comes up for the home team.

The opener hits two fours and a three, with one of them a flamboyant Caribbean-style legside flick to the mid-wicket boundary.

  20. Division Two round-uppublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 5 September 2022

Worcestershire lose their second wicket in Cardiff as Taylor Cornall shoulders arms and Timm van der Gugten flattens his off stump. The visitors are 56-2 in the 17th over.

A superb spell by Leicestershire's Chris Wright has brought him figures of 2-5 from six overs and Nottinghamshire are 35-2 after 16 overs.

Chris Rushworth now has 2-18 for Durham against Derbyshire, having had Wayne Madsen caught behind. Brooke Guest is 27 not out and the visitors are 52-3.
