    Lancs 276 & 280-5 dec v Yorks 255 & 85-3

Spin from both ends it is.

Tom Hartley is back into the attack for Lancashire.

It all feels a little soporific but one wicket and the Red Rose side will be fancying their chances.

Extravagant bounce and turn for Hartley from his final delivery but TKC avoids any alarm and it's a maiden.

  2. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Hampshire 400-9 dec v Northants 175 & 177-5

They're back on after tea and rain (in no particular order) at Southampton and Mohammad Abbas completes the over he began about an hour and a half ago.

New batter James Sales survives the over, a wicket maiden, and now he and Ricardo Vasconcelos must knuckle down to the task of trying to thwart Hampshire's victory hopes.

  3. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Lancs 276 & 280-5 dec v Yorks 255 & 83-3

A minimum of 31 overs to go at Old Trafford, if the weather remains clear - Lancashire need seven wickets to win the game.

Matt Parkinson is back into the attack, bowling to Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

  5. SOMERSET DRAW WITH GLOUCESTERSHIREpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 8 September 2022
    Breaking

    Somerset 248 & 11-0 v Gloucestershire 343 & 279-7 dec

Rain has the final say at Taunton - and it's Somerset who will be the happier side.

They take 12 points despite being outplayed for much of it and that is enough to lift them above 2021 champions Warwickshire and out of the bottom two, with three games still to play.

Gloucestershire earn 14 points, but they only have two left and are 30 points adrift of the rest.

Somerset are away to Warwickshire in a crucial game at Edgbaston next week, then Gloucestershire will take on the Bears at Bristol from 20 September.

  7. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Lancs 276 & 280-5 dec v Yorks 255 & 83-3

We did say Lancashire needed to come up with a new plan - and here it is. Tom Bailey decides to switch to off-spin for the final over before tea.

There's a single for Will Fraine and he is six not out, with Tom Kohler-Cadmore on 29.

Yorkshire will have to survive at least 31 more for the draw.

  8. Pitch inspection at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Hampshire 400-9 dec v Northants 175 & 177-5

    Promising news for Hampshire followers!

Play is due to resume at 3.30, with 33.5 overs left. Northamptonshire are still 48 runs behind, with just five wickets intact.

You sense Mohammad Abbas will be licking his lips...

  9. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Yorks 82-3 (target 302 v Lancs)

Will Williams finds a bit of extra bounce and Tom Kohler-Cadmore takes an unpleasant blow on the glove. Out comes the Yorkshire physio.

What other bowling options does Dane Vilas have? George Balderson has only bowled three overs in this innings - and the leg-spin of Luke Wells hasn't been tried yet.

Maybe he should ask George Lavelle to take the gloves off and have a go after Yorkshire keeper Jonny Tattersall took two wickets in their second innings.

  10. Tea at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Hampshire 400-9 dec v Northants 175 & 177-5

There's an early tea at Southampton as well, where Northamptonshire are still trailing by 48 with five second-innings wickets standing.

Safe to say the batting side won't mind too much if there's no further play. Hampshire will be praying the weather improves, or they can forget about going top for now.

  11. Postpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Yorks 81-3 (target 302 v Lancs)

Tom Kohler-Cadmore blocks out another Tom Bailey maiden. There are about 20 minutes to go until tea at Old Trafford.

Lancashire need to regroup and come up with a new plan to try and separate Kohler-Cadmore and Will Fraine.

  12. Update from Tauntonpublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Somerset 248 & 11-0 v Gloucestershire 343 & 279-7 dec

They are taking tea at the Cooper Associates County Ground. The umpires will take another look at 15:15 but the prospects of further play don't look good at the moment.

  13. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Derbypublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Durham 108-5 (target 298) v Derbyshire

Unfortunately, this could turn into a very stop-start afternoon.

A combination of rain and bad light has halted play again and the players will take a (ridiculously early) tea. Who has tea at 2.50pm??

But you feel only the weather can deny Derbyshire here, with Durham's batting looking somewhat fragile and that 298 target a very long way off.

  14. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Yorks 81-3 (target 302 v Lancs)

Another over, another Will Williams maiden at Old Trafford.

He has 1-8 from eight overs.

The umpires decide a ball change is needed - will this one provide the wickets Lancashire need?

  15. Westley hails 'world-class' Cook after Essex winpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Kent 164 & 149 v Essex 573

Following a delayed start, Essex wrapped up an innings and 260-run win over Kent at Canterbury earlier on. Seam bowler Sam Cook took 7-33 - and 10 wickets in the game.

Skipper Tom Westley told BBC Essex Sport: “We could keep talking about Sam Cook forever. I have done in the media relentlessly for months. I don’t think there’s a better seamer in the country.

“He gets first and second innings wickets, at Chelmsford and away from Chelmsford. We’re very lucky to have him at Essex.

“For me, he ticks all the boxes, he’s absolutely world-class.”

  16. wicket

WICKET Bushnell c Madsen b Watt 9published at 14:42 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Durham 106-5 (target 298) v Derbyshire

Wickets in successive overs for Mark Watt!

The Derbyshire spinner gets rid of Jonathan Bushnell now, nudging to Wayne Madsen at slip and it looks as though we may be witnessing another Durham batting collapse.

The home side's biggest problem is going to be the weather - the skies above Derby are darkening again...

  18. wicket

WICKET Maddinson c Guest b Watt 32published at 14:34 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Durham 103-4 (target 298) v Derbyshire

They're back on the field at Derby - but Nic Maddinson didn't stay for long.

The Durham left-hander prods unconvincingly at the fifth ball after the resumption, from Mark Watt, and edged behind to Brooke Guest.

Liam Trevaskis is out there now as Derbyshire scent the chance to push for victory.

  19. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Yorks 78-3 (target 302 v Lancs)

Maiden by Tom Bailey. Another one ticks by.

Will Williams to take up the attack as Matt Parkinson is given a breather. He has 0-20 from 13 overs.

  20. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Close fielders surround Will Fraine.

A ball from Matt Parkinson goes past everything and the Yorkshire batters run three byes.

Fraine remains on strike for the next over.
