    Lancs 276 & 227-3 v Yorks 255

Yorkshire's approach must surely be to try and delay the Lancashire declaration as long as possible with tight bowling.

That's a better over from Dom Bess, with only singles from it - but there are five of them.

    Lancs 276 & 222-3 v Yorks 255

Audacious for the second over of play.

Dane Vilas produces a ramp shot up and over the keeper for four as 11 comes from Ben Coad's first of the day.

    Glamorgan 247-8 v Worcs 454-9 dec

Worcestershire need two more wickets to finish off this Glamorgan first innings, so slightly surprising that they've started with a bowling attack comprising Jake Libby and Brett D'Oliveira.

The Pears' slow over-rate is probably the explanation there, with a new ball available fairly soon and rain forecast later. Glamorgan, meanwhile, are edging towards a second batting point - and who knows, that could prove crucial in the final run-in.

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 254-7

Gloucestershire's total passes 250 but they lose their second wicket as Jack Taylor lobs to mid-off. David Payne is next man in.

    Lancs 276 & 211-3 v Yorks 255

Off-spinner Dom Bees takes the opening over for Yorkshire and Steven Croft reverse sweeps for four. An indication of how Lancashire are going to approach this initial period of play.

WICKET Van Buuren c Brooks b Davey 19published at 10:31 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Somerset 248 v Gloucs 343 & 246-6

First ball of the day at Taunton and Graeme van Buuren is gone.

He tries to flick Josh Davey away on the leg-side but the ball takes the leading edge and lobs to Jack Brooks.

Gloucestershire lead by 341. You would assume that the wicket notwithstanding, a declaration may come sooner rather than later.

    Lancs 276 & 203-3 v Yorks 255

How many more do Lancashire want before the declaration comes?

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is wearing the keeping gloves again, so maybe Jonny Tattersall fancies another bowl after picking up his maiden first-class wicket yesterday.

Commentator Scott Read speculates that Yorkshire's over-rate may be a cause of concern for their skipper.

"It was obviously good fun" was the slightly understated response of Lancashire opener Luke Wells after he hit the second fastest century in Roses matches on day three against Yorkshire.

The left-hander made 124 off 82 balls as they built a 224-run lead by the close in a game they need to win to boost their title chances.

"The game situation, the season situation, dictated that we needed to do something with the time that we had - we knew we didn't have that much time to try and force a lead that would give us something to bowl at," he told BBC Radio Lancashire., external

"I wasn't expecting to score quite that quickly, but just felt in a good groove and went with it."

    Hampshire 400-9 dec v Northants 175 & 153-3 - start delayed

    James FullerImage source, Rex Features

Paceman James Fuller promised to carry on 'letting it rip' on the final day as Hampshire seek a win over Northants that would see them leapfrog Surrey at the top of Division One.

They bowled out the visitors in 64 overs in their first innings but met stiffer resistance after enforcing the follow-on.

"It has been a good month of bowling as fast as I can so that was the plan today. (James) Vince just told me to let it rip and I got some nice traction and it was coming out nicely," Fuller told BBC Radio Solent.

"It will be a full-point draw at worst but it would be lovely to get 40-odd overs to knock the wickets off. We will be going out there with all the towels and sponges if it does rain."

  12. Canterbury conditions suit Cookpublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Kent 164 & 137-8 v Essex 573 - start delayed at Canterbury

    Sam CookImage source, Rex Features

Essex paceman Sam Cook hopes the weather will allow a big enough window for Essex to complete victory over Kent after taking 6-33 on the third day at Canterbury.

Cook needs one more victim for 10 in the match - on the same ground where he took a career-best 7-23 in 2019.

“It’s similar to Lord’s in there’s obviously a big slope and I’ve enjoyed bowling and trying to use that slope, particularly when it’s not swinging or not doing much in the air. It gives you something to work with," he said.

"(The forecast says) There’s a bit (of rain) about in the morning, but the afternoon looks reasonably clear so we’ll just have to turn up and be ready and go out there when it clears."

  13. 'Rain part of the experience' - Gillpublished at 10:09 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

Glamorgan 241-8 v Worcestershire 454-9 dec (play due to start 10:30)

Shubman GillImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

India's Shubman Gill made a good impression on his Glamorgan debut by scoring 92 despite a stop-start third day's play against Worcestershire at Sophia Gardens.

Gill - whose 23rd birthday is today - was signed to replace the absent Marnus Labuschagne for the final four games of the season.

"The conditions are different with the rain when you stop and you start again, that's part of the experience, different from when you play in India and that's what I'm here for," he told BBC Wales Sport.

"The tough part (of getting UK experience) was to find a window, India A are playing New Zealand A right now but I talked to our coach and selectors (to ask) if they could allow me to come here and play."

  14. Weather outlookpublished at 10:06 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    Pretty similar to yesterday really.

We can expect some interruptions - but let's hope they won't prevent us enjoying one or two exciting finishes.

  16. Good morningpublished at 09:59 British Summer Time 8 September 2022

    The plot lines are simple.

    • If Hampshire beat Northants, they will go top of Division One.
    • Lancashire need to win the Roses match to boost their own hopes of winning the title.
    • Derbyshire can go second in Division Two if they beat Durham.

We have three other matches as well - but how much cricket will the weather allow?

Welcome to our coverage of the final day of the current County Championship matches. Play is due to start at 10:30.
