Durham lead by 37 runs with five wickets to go.

  4. Overseas stars earn their cornpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 224-5

The point of having overseas players in your team is for them to provide that extra touch of star quality.

Surrey have certainly had that today. This morning, West Indies quick Kemar Roach took three wickets with the new ball to end with 5-95 as Northants lost their last six wickets for 90 runs.

Then when they stumbled to 46-3 and 80-4 with the bat, Hashim Amla was the rock they needed to steady the ship as they recovered to 224-5.

The South Africa great will require three runs on day three to bring up his 57th first-class century.

And the overseas duo have kept Surrey on track to get the points they need to overtake Hampshire and go back to the top of the Championship.

  5. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:47 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219 & 7-2, Warwickshire 196

    That's it at Edgbaston.

14 wickets in the day, including Brookes getting Brooks, then Brooks getting Brookes.

But there's only so much drama you can take. And that's it now until tomorrow, when Somerset will resume with a 36-run lead over Warwickshire - and with eight second-innings wickets in hand.

    Big day tomorrow.

  6. One over left in Birminghampublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219 & 13-2, Warwickshire 196

Somerset get through India Test spinner Jayant Yadav's second over.

Last over of the day coming up, to be bowled by Danny Briggs, to Tom Lammonby.

  7. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 18:37 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 87-2 v Essex 225

And that wicket of George Hill is the last action of the day in Leeds.

Hill and Fin Bean had batted really nicely but they can't make the close together as Yorkshire end the second day four runs adrift of Essex.

  8. wicket

    WICKET - Aldridge b Yadav 0published at 18:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219 & 7-2, Warwickshire 196

Warwickshire strike again with a second wicket.

And it's another success for India as spinner Jayant Yadav makes another breakthrough and nighwatchman Kasey Aldridge goes for a seventh-ball duck.

This time Tom Abell does appear, with two overs still to go after this one.

But they will have to be spin.

The umpires were ready to take the players off but the Bears have agreed to take off Mohammed Siraj and bowl the spinners.

  9. wicket

    WICKET Hill c A Cook b Porter 33published at 18:33 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 87-2 v Essex 225

A wicket in the final over.

George Hill had clipped a nice two off the third ball of Jamie Porter's third ball, but is tempted to play at the next one and edges into the safe hands of Sir Alastair Cook at slip.

Maybe one to put down to experience with the bowler ultimately winning this contest.

  10. Durham take the lead at Leicesterpublished at 18:32 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Leicestershire 202, Durham 221-5

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Callum Parkinson has been a reluctant participant in this game, in terms of bowling. And that begs the question: Why hasn't he bowled himself more? He's taken three of the five Durham wickets to fall so far.

The first was with his fifth ball when he had Sean Dickson caught at point on 26. But he only bowled one more over after that in the session and it was after tea when he brought himself back into the attack, 22 overs later.

And guess what? He got a wicket with the fifth ball of his second spell when Michael Jones, dropped in the slips on 80, edged him to Colin Ackermann at first slip, for 97.

Parkinson wasn't done there though. Four overs later he bowled Scott Borthwick through his legs when he was on 30 - and Chris Wright has now struck twice more.

  11. Highest score for Beanpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 83-1 v Essex 225

A lovely shot off the back foot reaches the short boundary and means Fin Bean has his best score in his fourth first class innings.

Bean has 45 and has gone a long way towards helping Yorkshire overturn the first innings deficit.

  12. wicket

    WICKET - Imam ul-Haq c Hain b Siraj 0published at 18:20 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219 & 0-1, Warwickshire 196

Mohammed Siraj wins that battle again.

He goes over the wicket, slants one across the left-hander and Imam ul-Haq is well caught at slip by Sam Hain.

Two overs gone. No runs on the board, but one man gone already.

Another twist in an already dramatic, low-scoring game.

No sign of skipper Tom Abell though.

Instead, Somerset have sent in tailender Kasey Aldridge.

Nighthawk? Or plain ordinary Nightwatchman? We suspecf the latter.

  13. Postpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 75-1 v Essex 225

George Hill takes a single to bring up the 50 partnership for this second wicket between him and Fin Bean.

Hill is the senior partner at 21, with Bean a year younger.

  14. Somerset back in to bat at Edgbastonpublished at 18:16 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219 & 0-0, Warwickshire 196

Oliver Hannon-Dalby gets the Somerset second innings going to Tom Lammonby.

Eight overs to face tonight - and Lammonby safely negotiates the first of them.

Now it's the turn of Mohammed Siraj against Imam ul-Haq.

    India v Pakistan.

And, in the first innings, it was a battle India won, when Siraj had him caught behind in his fifth over.

  15. Postpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 73-1 v Essex 225

Matt Critchley has been thrown the ball to see if there is anything in it for the spinners.

George Hill smashes one past the bowler for four as Yorkshire battle hard to reach parity by the close.

  16. wicket

WARWICKSHIRE ALL OUT AT EDGBASTONpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 196

    They can't!!!

OHD is bowled by Josh Davey for 2 0 and Warwickshire all out.

He looks very disappointed, does the big man.

Somerset now have eight overs left to bat tonight, a 23-run first-innings lead - and an extra bonus point.

  17. Bears getting closerpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 196-9

Single for Siraj off Josh Davey

16 added by the last pair now.

    Can they do it?

  18. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 & 61-1 v Essex 225

Fin Bean gets successive boundaries to move to 38.

The first is an edge that bounces just between the wicketkeeper and first slip and then he squirts one backward of square for another four.

  19. new ball

Somerset take the new ballpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 195-9

Somerset have taken the new ball. And Lewis Gregory is lifted over the top for two runs by Mohammed Siraj, who then takes a single.

Three balls to go in the over - and Gregory goes round the wicket to OHD.

All to no avail. Still 11 overs left in the day, supposedly.

    Light permitting.

  20. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 224-5

As expected, that is it at Northampton after an excellent day of Championship cricket.
