    Yorkshire 134 & 4-0 v Essex 225

Yorkshire openers Adam Lyth and Fin Bean are out at the crease in far more pleasant conditions than they faced yesterday morning.

Lyth survives an LBW shout from Jamie Porter before four leg byes get the scoreboard moving.

  2. Surrey not bowled out twice all seasonpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 164-4

As Hashim Amla and Cameron Steel's partnership creeps up to 84 with a glorious shot through the covers for four from Steel, it is worth noting that no team has taken all 20 Surrey wickets in a game this season.

Five of their seven wins have come from batting second so they won't feel unduly worried as they trail by 175 runs.

  3. wicket

    WICKET - Burgess b Brooks 0published at 16:39 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 141-6

Three balls later, Jack Brooks strikes again.

Michael Burgess goes the same way as Jayant Yadav.

Another in-ducker, Burgess misses it and this one clatters into the stumps too.

Danny Briggs comes in to safely see out the final ball of the over. But Somerset tails are up - and there is suddenly a whole lot of a-whoopin' and a-hollerin' going on out in the middle.

The Bears still trail by 78 - and Somerset are now uo to three bonus points from this game too.

  4. wicket

    WICKET - Yadav b Brooks 29published at 16:38 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 141-5

    Great bowling change. Big wicket.

Jack Brooks comes back on and, with only his second ball, he removes the middle pole of Jayant Yadav.

Good knock thoough from Yadav in a 46-run stand with Sam Hain.

Both new Indian signings Mohammed Siraj and Yadav are having a big effect for Warwickshire in this game.

After paceman Siraj's 5-82 on his debut, spinner Yadav, who did also bag a wicket in his first over yesterday, has done it with the bat too..

  5. wicket

ESSEX ALL OUT AT HEADINGLEYpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 v Essex 225

Sam Cook has a huge swing at George Hill and he edges it through to the wicketkeeper.

Cook goes for six and Essex end with a first innings advantage of 91.

A third wicket for Hill after his six-for against Lancashire in the Roses Match last week.

  6. More on-off antics in Division Twopublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

Back on again at Hove, where Worcestershire are on the move again, having reached 289-2 - already a 69-run lead over Sussex.

But they're back off at Lord's, where Middlesex are now stuck on 261-5, leading Glamorgan by 47.

Durham are ploughing on at Leicester though, where Michael Jones has made 80 out of their 133-1, replying to thr 202 all out made by winless bottom side Leicestershire.

  7. wicket

WICKET Allison lbw b Thompson 23published at 16:28 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 v Essex 225-9

A fourth wicket of the innings for Jordan Thompson.

This time, he gets Ben Allison trapped in front of leg stump. Still, a useful innings from the number nine.

  8. Postpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 146-4

That is beautiful from Hashim Amla as his timing is perfect in running a Ben Sanderson ball down to the vacant boundary at third.

    A quality cricket shot.

  9. Postpublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 138-4

Cameron Steel plays an almost Caribbean-esque cut shot down on one knee as he crashes Lizaad Williams to the point boundary.

About this stage in the Northants innings, batting got easier as Emilio Gay and Rob Keogh put on 155 for the fourth wicket.

Steel and Amla have put on 58 so far for Surrey's fifth wicket. But you can sense they are starting to put the pressure back on the bowlers.

  10. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 v Essex 216-8

A maximum from Ben Allison as he helps a short ball from George Hill all the way into the stands over the short boundary side.

Essex's lead is closing on 100.

  11. wicket

WICKET Lawrence c Tattersall b Hill 61published at 16:08 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 v Essex 209-8

Dan Lawrence has to go, caught behind trying to run one down to third man off George Hill.

He trudges off slowly, but it is the only 50 so far at Headingley and has put Essex in a good position.

A second wicket for Hill, who has 2-11 in his 11th over. He is a very under-rated bowler as Lancashire found out last week.

  12. 50 runs

for Hashim Amlapublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 127-4

Hashim Amla gets the run he needs to reach his half century.

Only his fourth of the county season, but the 94th of his first-class career.

He has needed 119 balls and has only struck three fours, but that is not the main thing. He is still in, doing a crucial job to hold this innings together.

  13. A long final sessionpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 118-4

Hashim Amla gets two off Lizaad Williams' first ball after tea, which is also a no-ball.

This is the first of a potential 42 overs in this final session. That is a lot of cricket, although it would be a surprise if we manage to get through all of those.

  14. Teatime scorespublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

Wantage Road: Northamptonshire 339, Surrey 114-4 (38 overs)

    Leeds: Yorkshire 134, Essex 206-7 (64 overs)

    Division Two

Leicester: Leicestershire 202 all out, Durham 100-1 (28 overs)

    Lord's: Glamorgan 214, Middlesex 261-5 (77 overs)

    Hove: Sussex 220, Worcestershire 268-2 (74 overs)

  15. Teatime at Leicesterpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Leicestershire 202, Durham 100-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Having bowled out Leicestershire for 202 following a delayed lunch, Durham have added 100 runs in the afternoon session.

The only wicket to fall was that of Sean Dickson, caught at backward point by Rishi Patel off the bowling of spinner Callum Parkinson, the home skipper's fifth ball of the day.

Michael Jones, who scored 108 against Leicestershire in the previous meeting this season, will resume after tea on 60, on the back of making 87 at Derby last week.

Earlier Matty Potts took 6-52 on his return to the Durham side following his summer with England to slightly better the 5-68 he took against the Foxes in April.

There are still 42 overs to go, so we are in for a late finish if the light holds. At the moment it is a lovely summer's day in Leicester. Warm and sunny.

  16. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 117-4

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

A much better session for Warwickshire, largely due to Sam Hain. 92 runs added. Just one wicket lost.

The warmth of the applause from the crowd at Edgbaston, when Hain's achievement of 1,000 runs was announced, shows how much he is appreciated by Warwickshire supporters even though the England selectors remain apparently unconvinced that he's ready for international cricket.

Hain's innings has been crucial in this relegation stand-off.

At 22-3 Warwickshire were in serious trouble. But, as with the Somerset innings, batting has seemed to get easier as the day has gone on.

Somerset's cause won't be helped by the sight of Lewis Gregory limping off with what looks like a recurrence of a knee injury which hampered him at the crease before the close yesterday.

  17. 50 runs

    Sam Hain's half-centurypublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Somerset 219, Warwickshire 113-4

Two landmarks in quick succession for Sam Hain.

When he got to 46, that took him to 1,000 County Championship runs for the season, for the first time.

And four runs later, he went to his 50 - his eighth in red-ball cricket this season and his 47th in total, in first-class cricket.

Three of those fifties have been turned into centuries - and he is one of only two top flight players to have reached his 1,000 runs this summer after Lancashire's Keaton Jennings and Kent's Ben Compton. But he does not appear to have the eyes of the England Test selectors on him.

  18. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 114-4

A fascinating session at Wantage Road where Northants have put Championship chasers Surrey under pressure.

Amla, on 43 not out, holds the key to the innings.

  19. Tea at Headingleypublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Yorkshire 134 v Essex 206-7

Essex will have a cup of tea with a lead of 72. That did not look likely at 105-6.

  20. Postpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 13 September 2022

    Northants 339 v Surrey 112-4

There is a tentative shout for a catch behind off Cameron Steel, but that was off his thigh pad.

In the same James Sales over, Hashim Amla clips a leg stump half-volley to the boundary as he moves on to 38.

Sales gets a little straighter, but suffers the same fate as Amla sends that to the fence - a shot we've seen so many times down the years.
