Durham continue to dominate this match, reaching tea with a lead of 182 and six wickets still in hand

Nic Maddinson has led the charge since lunch, his 82 not out coming in just 97 balls, including a huge six down the ground off the bowling of James Coles

Coles has taken three of the wickets to fall with his left arm spin, but overseas signing Faheem Ashraf has again disappointed with the ball, failing to take a wicket so far.

There are still 36 overs to be bowled today light permitting and although Sussex have just taken the new ball, Durham will be looking to extend the lead to well over 300 by the close

  5. Pitch 'nothing out of the ordinary' - Snaterpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

Lancashire beat Essex by 38 runs

If you weren't with us earlier on, you missed an incredible finish at Chelmsford as Essex were bowled out for 59 - with George Balderson taking a hat-trick and 5-19 to inspire a Lancashire win.

Despite 40 wickets falling in less than five sessions, Essex fast bowler Shane Snater insisted the pitch was "alright".

He said: "Obviously it was doing a bit but nothing out of the ordinary. With the early start and under the lights, the ball is going to do a lot more than it normally does."

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas described Balderson's bowling as "incredible" and also praised George Bell was an "exceptional" performance with the bat, adding: "And I thought his keeping, particularly standing up at the wicket, was outstanding.”

  11. 'Meek' batting effort by Nottspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Worcestershire 390 v Nottinghamshire 128 - tea

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Ed Barnard and Dillon Pennington each picked up four wickets to bundle Nottinghamshire out for only 128 on a bizarre second afternoon at New Road.

The Division Two leaders had registered more than 200 runs in every first innings effort this season but succumbed meekly, having been 12-1 at lunch.

Haseeb Hameed top-scored with 37, passing 1,000 runs for the season in the process, and Liam Patterson-White hit a quickfire 32 before being last out.

With a lead of 262 we await the confirmation that Notts will be asked to follow on.

Davey has 2-24 from his seven overs so far, but Northants captain Will Young is still there on 40 not out.

Somerset very much in the driving seat here.

    Hampshire 57 v Kent 165 & 269

Nathan Gilchrist looks to hit Mohammad Abbas out of Southampton, but can only pick out James Fuller at long-on.

Hampshire will need an improbable 378 to win this crucial game.

  14. wicket

WICKET Thompson c Foakes b Clark 0published at 15:21 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Surrey 333 v Yorks 146-7

Yorkshire lose their third wicket for only five runs added as Jordan Thompson edges Jordan Clark to the keeper.

That was a good delivery and this innings looks like it's in a terminal spiral - but Jonny Tattersall is still there on 30.

  15. wicket

    Patterson-White c Azhar b Penningtonpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Worcs 390 v Notts 128

All out - and tea will be taken early.

Surely the follow on is inevitable?

Patterson-White lofts a catch to Azhar Ali at deep square leg.

34.2 overs of absolute carnage for the visitors, who fail to earn a batting point for the first time season.

Pennington has 4-31 and Barnard has 4-26.

  17. Postpublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Somerset 389 v Northants 68-4

Northants skipper Will Young is playing pretty much a lone hand for his side at the moment.

He clips Josh Davey through mid-wicket for four and square cuts for another boundary to progress to 39 not out.

    The deficit is currently 321.

  18. wicket

WICKET Bess b Clark 4published at 15:15 British Summer Time 21 September 2022

    Surrey 333 v Yorks 144-6

Dom Bess has looked pretty skittish since beginning his innings and now it's over.

He throws the bat at the final ball of Jordan Clark's over and plays on via the inside edge.

Not what his team needed and Surrey now have a firm grip on this game.

Nic Maddinson is now 62 not out, with Durham 318-4 against Sussex at the Riverside.

The home team lead by 156 and are laying a foundation for what could be their third win of the season.
