    Worcs 390 v Notts 128 & 137-7

    Breakthrough in the second over.

The ball gets big on Moores and balloons off the outside edge.

Brilliant catch from D'Oliveira square on the off side.

Brett Hutton walks to the crease on a king pair...

  2. Postpublished at 10:37 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Gloucs 254 v Warwks 274 & 59-5 - lead by 78

    Maiden from David Payne.

Tom Price, hero of the hour yesterday, will bowl to Warwickshire's lone batting hero Alex Davies from the Pavilion End.

Davies leaves outside off and a straighter ball raps him on the pad, yielding half an appeal for LBW. Not out.

A single off the fifth through the leg side for the first run of the day.

  3. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore b Steel 11published at 10:33 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Surrey 333 v Yorks 179 & 94-3

He did it to Ben Mike in the first innings and he's done it to Tom Kohler-Cadmore now.

Having pulled the previous delivery for four, TKC fails to spot Cameron Steel's googly and is bowled on the back foot by one which keeps a little low.

A huge setback for Yorkshire after being asked to follow-on yesterday.

  4. Work to do for Middlesexpublished at 10:33 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Leicestershire 277-9 v Middlesex 297

When they reduced Leicestershire to 66-5 yesterday in reply to their 297, Middlesex appeared to have an iron grip on their match.

But half-centuries from Harry Swindells and Tom Scriven for the winless Foxes have pulled them very close to first innings parity.

It all leaves Middlesex with plenty of work to do over the next two days to force the victory they need to remain in control of their promotion chances.

Toby Roland-Jones opens with five dots before number 11 Chris Wright strokes a lovely off drive to the boundary.

  5. wicket

WICKET Zaib c Overton b Davey 27published at 10:33 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 v Northants 184-7

Great delivery from Josh Davey takes the edge and Craig Overton swoops low at second slip to take the catch.

Overton spoke yesterday about Somerset's hopes of making Northants follow-on and that is certainly going to help. The deficit is 205.

  6. Day Three begins at Bristolpublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Gloucs 255 v Warwks 274 & 58-5 - lead by 77

The hosts fought back superbly yesterday, adding precious tail end runs and ripping out most of the Warwickshire top order quickly.

Much will depend on Alex Davies, who has 41 of those second innings runs.

He returns to the crease with Jacob Bethell, playing only his third First Class game overall and his second this season.

David Payne will bowl to him now.

  7. Postpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Hampshire 57 & 109-4 v Kent 165 & 269

Matt Quinn to bowl the first ball of the morning to James Vince.

Four! Vince strokes it through the covers to get up and running.

  8. Postpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Worcs 390 v Notts 128 & 129-6 f/o - trail by 133

Ben Gibbon will bowl first to Liam Patterson-White, who drives his fourth ball through the off side for four runs.

Slightly over-pitched, but the Pears have plenty of runs and time.

  9. Postpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Surrey 333 v Yorks 179 & 89-2

    A surprise move by Surrey?

Spinner Cameron Steel has the ball for the first over of the day - Adam Lyth is on strike for Yorkshire.

  10. Play resumes at New Roadpublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Worcs 390 v Notts 128 & 129-6 f/o - trail by 133

Apart from the first half of day one, when they reduced the Pears to 99-5, the Division Two leaders have had an absolute horror show here.

Obliterated in the first innings and following on at New Road for the second year running.

In 2021, Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater batted out day four and both scored centuries - but they're already out and for now the pressure is on Tom Moores and Liam Patterson-White.

  11. Captain must deliverpublished at 10:27 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Hampshire 57 & 105-4 v Kent 165 & 269

    James VinceImage source, Getty Images

Quite simply heading into day three, Hampshire must find a way of getting the 273 more runs they need to beat Kent and keep alive their hopes of overhauling Surrey to win the title.

The England Test team have made this the summer of chasing, winning five matches batting in the fourth innings, but this one would be right up there if Hampshire can do it.

Joe Weatherley will resume on 54, while captain James Vince has nought, having not yet faced a ball.

For so many years, Vince has been the mainstay of the Hampshire batting, but 2022 has been a bit lean by his standards.

Averaging only 34, the skipper has recorded just one century, back in April at Canterbury in the reverse fixture with Kent.

To have any chance of getting near that far-off target of 378, Vince must fire.

  12. Notts in danger of innings defeatpublished at 10:25 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Worcs 390 v Notts 128 & 129-6 f/o - trail by 133

The plight of Notts today is summed up by one Edward Elgar...

  14. 'Surrey must be patient' - Worrallpublished at 10:23 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Surrey 333 v Yorkshire 179 & 89-2 (match resumes 10:30)

    Dan WorrallImage source, Rex Features

Fast bowler Dan Worrall believes Surrey must remain patient as they look to secure their first Championship title since 2018.

If they beat Yorkshire and Hampshire lose to Kent, they will be confirmed as champions with a game to spare.

"Patience is the name of the game throughout the season, we’ve just had to wait at times for those moments to capitalise," he said at the end of the second day's play at the Oval.

"If it doesn’t happen in the first hour we just have to be patient and chip away. There are potentially some runs to make in the last innings but before then we will do what we can."

  15. Organ still hopeful of Hampshire winpublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Hampshire 57 & 105-4 v Kent 165 & 269 (match resumes 10:30)

    Felix OrganImage source, Rex Features

Hampshire opener Felix Organ believes they are capable of producing "something special" to beat Kent and keep their Championship title hopes alive.

The T20 Blast winners need to score another 273 for a 10th victory of the season, but they only have six wickets left.

"We still have a lot of belief in the dressing room that we can still chase these runs down. It's a simple equation and we will give it a good go," said Organ, who was out for 37.

"There will be flurries where we score runs and half hours where we may only get a few runs. It makes no difference to us. Partnerships are key, focus on the next ball and then we will chase these runs down."

  16. Overton plays things safe after back troublepublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 v Northants 184-6 (match resumes 10:30)

    Craig OvertonImage source, Rex Features

England pace bowler Craig Overton was happy to avoid any recurrence of back problems as he took 4-25 for Somerset against Northants at Taunton.

Overton is playing his first match since turning out for England Lions against South Africa in early August.

"Everyone knows how much I love playing for Somerset and that I always give my all for the club when I am out there," he said.

"My back felt fine, but I deliberately operated in short spells to be on the safe side. We will target trying to make Northants follow on, but a decision on that could be affected by my fitness and that of Lewis (Gregory)."

  17. Lloyd savours 'surreal' inningspublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 dec v Derbyshire 135-5 (match resumes 10:30)

David LloydImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

Glamorgan captain David Lloyd said it was all "a bit surreal" after making 313 not out, the club's highest score on Welsh soil, on the second day against Derbyshire.

His innings would be a club record were it not for team-mate Sam Northeast's unbeaten 410 at Leicester in July.

"I've had chats with Matt (Maynard, coach) about making sure that when I do get to a hundred, I go big," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"I thought I went through the gears quite well and it's nice to repay the faith. I didn't sleep very well with the adrenalin going, it's been a long couple of days."

  18. Moores looks for fight from Nottspublished at 10:09 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Worcestershire 390 v Notts 128 & 129-6 (match resumes 10:30)

    Peter MooresImage source, Getty Images

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores promised they would "scrap" hard after being outplayed by Worcestershire over the first two days at New Road.

The Division Two leaders are facing the prospect of a second defeat of the season, still trailing by 133, when a win or draw could have confirmed promotion.

"The assessment of the two days is they bowled better than we did and made it far more challenging for our batters," said Moores.

"With the four batters we have left, we will look to build partnerships and try and do as well as we can. We will scrap and see where we get to."

  19. Weather outlookpublished at 10:07 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

There's some worrying blue stuff on this morning's weather map, but it looks like it will be mainly confined to northern areas, so fingers crossed we don't see too many hold-ups at the eight grounds.
