    Somerset 389 & 203-1 v Northants 265

You can't bowl full tosses to Tom Abell in his current form and spinner Saif Zaib pays the price for doing so as he is swung away for four.

A short ball and a pull shot for another boundary ends the over as Somerset's total passes 200 and Abell and Tom Lammonby post a 100 partnership.

Abell is 69 not out, Lammonby has 74 and the lead is 327.

Du Plooy takes two from the fourth ball of Salter's over and Du Plooy drives down the ground. The ball just beats Ajaz Patel to the boundary for four.

  3. Bad light stops play at Leicesterpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Leicestershire 294 & 13-4 v Middlesex 297 & 271

Probably to the relief of the Leicestershire batters, the players are coming off the field at Grace Road.

However, Toby Roland-Jones' three-wicket burst has gone a long way towards sealing victory for Middlesex.

Leicestershire need 262 more runs but only have six wickets left.

Just the one run comes from Salter's over.

Du Plooy punches Patel off the back foot through mid on for one.

Madsen cuts Patel for four to backward point, where Tom Bevan can't quite cut the ball off.

Ajaz Patel continues from the Cathedral End and Leus du Plooy is well forward to defend.

He tucks the left arm spinner away to mid wicket for one and Madsen blocks.

11 overs remain in the day's play. Potentially.

A change of bowling as off spinner Andrew Salter comes on at the River End.

  7. Postpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 & 187-1 v Northants 265

Tom Taylor starts a new spell and Tom Abell forces him away off the back foot for four. A single off the final ball enables him to keep the strike and the lead is now 311.

  8. wicket

    WICKET Ahmed b Roland-Jones 0published at 16:55 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Leicestershire 294 & 13-4 v Middlesex 297 & 271

This is turning into a procession.

Toby Roland-Jones has bowled 14 balls and three of them have crashed into the timbers.

This time, he is far too good for Rehan Ahmed's defences with a ball nipping back and knocking out leg stump.

  9. Postpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 v Derbys 253 & 83-3 f/o

Madsen moves on to 16 with a late cut behind cover point for four runs.

He defends into the off side and then ducks underneath a short ball.

All eyes on the gloomy skies between overs. We're fine for now.

  10. wicket

    WICKET Kimber b Roland-Jones 4published at 16:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Leicestershire 294 & 13-3 v Middlesex 297 & 271

    Oh dear!

Louis Kimber has his off-stump flattened by Toby Roland-Jones. Not sure the ball did too much, but Kimber was playing down the wrong line, Bakerloo to Roland-Jones' Piccadilly.

There are 11 overs left tonight, how many more wickets can Middlesex claim before the close?

  11. Postpublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 v Derbys 253 & 79-3 f/o

Aggressive shot from Leus du Plooy who is down the pitch to Patel, slogging the spinner over mid wicket for four runs without quite middling it.

It's pretty gloomy here now and host captain David Lloyd might want to consider bowling two spinners before too long.

  12. 50 runs

for Tom Abellpublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 & 178-1 v Northants 265

We're sure he'll put the needs of his team first, but Tom Abell is rapidly closing in on 1,000 runs for the season - he now has 964.

A pull for four off Ben Sanderson takes him to 50 from just 49 balls and the lead extends past 300.

  13. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 & 167-1 v Northants 265

That's a white-ball shot in a red-ball game by Tom Abell, who fetches a ball outside off stump from Rob Keogh and clears the rope at mid-wicket. He now has 45 not out to follow his hundred in the first innings.

Somerset's lead is 292 - how many more than 300 do they want before declaring?

  14. Postpublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 v Derbys 253 & 75-3 f/o

    Maiden from Ajaz Patel.

James Harris will join the attack from the River End with 15 overs left - light permitting.

Du Plooy pushes the second ball into the offside for one.

Harris bowls a good line and gets the ball to move away from Madsen - but he leaves it safely.

Both openers back in the hutch in the first eight balls.

Sol Budinger hits Toby Roland-Jones' first delivery for four, but he is cleaned up by the second one.

A 60th Championship wicket of the summer for Roland-Jones and experience trumping youth on this occasion.

  16. Postpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 v Derbys 253 & 74-3 f/o

Glamorgan will be hopeful of forcing a result here after prizing out Billy Godleman and Brooke Guest in quick succession.

Wayne Madsen picks up a single from Timm van der Gugten.

TVG goes round the wicket to Leus du Plooy, who whips the ball off his pads for four.

Rumors of rain in the principality abound but its not here in Cardiff.

  17. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Somerset 389 & 157-1 v Northants 265

The two Toms, Lammonby and Abell - now have a 50 partnership for Somerset. The latest Ben Sanderson over is a maiden but the home side lead by 284 and there are 20 overs scheduled before the close.

  18. wicket

WICKET Evans lbw b Murtagh 0published at 16:31 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Leicestershire 294 & 0-1 v Middlesex 297 & 265

    Gone! Second ball.

Tim Murtagh does what he has been doing for years and hits the right spot with the new ball.

Sam Evans plays around it and that is plumb - a second ball duck. The Leicestershire run chase starts in the worst possible manner.

  19. wicket

WICKET Godleman lbw van der Gugten 40published at 16:26 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Glamorgan 550-5 dec v Derbys 253 & 66-3

No doubt about that as Billy Godleman is struck on the pad on the back foot. It may have kept a little low but that is Timm van der Gugten's second wicket of this spell.

There are in theory 18 more overs today for Glamorgan to try and earn themselves an extra day off.

  20. Gloucestershire beat Warwickshire by three wicketspublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 22 September 2022

    Gloucs 255 & 149-7 v Warwks 274 & 128

Sadly, Gloucestershire will still go down to the second division even if they beat Yorkshire at Headingley next week.

At best they can get up to 119 points which will not be enough to get them out of the drop spot.

But they can celebrate a nerve shredding win in their final 2022 home game here nonetheless after a run of eight losses and four draws.
