More runs for Conners with a drive through the covers for four.

He goes past his previous season best with the bat.

He spoils the moment slightly with a wild swing and a miss outside off stump.

The last ball of the over is smashed back over Van der Gugten's head for the number ten's first six of the season.

Shot! One ball after bowling a bouncer, Hogan pitches the ball up and watches Conners drive it through the covers for four.

    That's the innings 250 in 80.3 overs.

Four more as another drive guides the ball rapidly through cover point.

Another bouncer, this time wide of off and Conners wisely leaves.

A single off the last ball and Timm van der Gugten will bowl from the Cathedral End.

Aitchison guides Harris down to third man for a single.

Another single to third man for Conners.

A neat leg side clip brings Aitchison one more run.

    Somerset 389 & 337-4 dec v Northants 265 & 109 all out

A fitting way for this match to end as Tom Abell takes the final wicket.

Number 11 Jack White doesn't look like hanging around and he edges it to Craig Overton at slip.

Abell ends with 2-24 to go with his 111 and 115 while Overton finishes with match figures of 7-74. Somerset's gun players have delivered when the team really needed it.

They win by a whopping 352 runs and take 23 points to move up into sixth above Yorkshire and Kent, and safe from relegation.

How long can this pair hold out? Still 54 overs left after this one.

An inside edge off the last ball of the Harris over flies past Cooke and Conners takes a single.

The first ball from Salter turns sharply and flies away via the pads for four leg byes.

Conners blocks out the rest of the over.

    Somerset 389 & 337-4 dec v Northants 265 & 104-9

Somerset are one wicket away now.

A classic tailender's shot from Ben Sanderson. Big attempted drive, no footwork and a simple edge through to the wicketkeeper.

A second victim for Kasey Aldridge.

  8. DURHAM BEAT SUSSEX BY INNS & 140 RUNSpublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 23 September 2022
    Breaking

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 157-9

The tactic finally pays off for Matthew Potts as Faheem Ashraf top edges an attempted pull and is caught by Michael Jones at fine leg for 26. Henry Crocombe won't bat, so that's the game for Durham.

Sussex at least offered some meaningful resistance after starting day four on 9-4, especially when Tom Haines (37) and James Coles (29) were together in a stand of 70.

Potts finishes with 2-41, but the bowling plaudits go to Ben Raine, whose 5-54 gives him match figures of 7-87.

Durham take maximum points for their third win of the season but likely results elsewhere mean they will be in Division Two again next year.

Colin Ackermann strokes one out into the deep off Luke Hollman and trots through for a single to bring up the 50 partnership between him and Callum Parkinson.

Ackermann has 73, Parkinson is eight not out from 70 balls.

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 155-8

Sean Hunt chips spinner Liam Trevaskis down the ground for two as the Sussex total passes 150.

The next ball is pulled for four but he is then almost undone by a clever arm ball by the left-armer which is far too close to try and cut.

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 147-8

Matthew Potts seems determined to give Faheem Ashraf a headache as he continues to target the Sussex batter with short stuff.

But no, two successive yorkers are right on target and he does superbly to dig them both out.

Ashraf tries a huge swing to the final ball of the over but doesn't make contact. Durham will have Sean Hunt to bowl at now.

Conners takes a single off Salter to mid on.

Aitchison gets an inside edge off the third ball, which squirts away behind square for three.

A slip, leg slip and forward short leg are in place for the spinner and it looks as though a wicket could fall at any moment.

Aitchison is tentatively forward to block Harris, who is really racing into the crease now.

The third ball keeps low and Aitchison does well to squeeze it out.

The batter backs away to square leg as fourth ball rears up and appears to strike him on the arm.

Successive maidens and Derbyshire are well and truly stuck.

    Somerset 389 & 337-4 dec v Northants 265 & 92-8

Kasey Aldridge joins this Somerset steamrollering job!

A delivery that Craig Overton or former Somerset favourite Andrew Caddick would have enjoyed as Aldridge extracts a bit of extra bounce to surprise Lizaad Williams and take the edge of his bat.

Northants will be on the bus on the M5 shortly at this rate.

  15. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

Faheem Ashraf drives Matthew Potts through the covers for four to further underline his batting credentials.

The England pace bowler responds by testing him out with a short ball and is pulled away with considerable force for four.

    The deficit is now 155.

A single for Conners off his first ball.

Aitchison is completely foxed by Harris as the ball beats the outside edge of the bat. Over bowled.

Conners is well forward to block out the next over, bowled by Salter.

  17. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 131-8

Nice shot. Faheem Ashraf flicks Matthew Potts away over square leg for four. A small gesture of defiance by the Pakistan all-rounder because this game surely hasn't got long to go.

Gone! Surely Glamorgan have this game now.

Movement off the seam from Harris as the ball darts into the bottom edge of a crooked bat and strikes the timbers.

The end of a fine innings and Derbyshire are nearly down and out.

The new batter is Sam Conners.

Ben Aitchison joins Madsen in the middle with Derbyshire on the brink of an innings defeat.

Aitchison is forward to defend and takes his hand off the bat as he tries to drive the last ball back past the bowler.

    Good tumbling stop by Salter.

Tom Taylor's stay at the crease is over.

Josh Davey gets one in the right place and when Taylor misses in going for another big shot, he is LBW in front of middle and leg.

This match is only going one way.
