  2. Sussex pair post 50 standpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 56-4

James Coles tries to flick Ben Raine through the leg-side, but the umpire says it's byes as it flies past the keeper and away to the boundary. That is a 50 partnership for Coles and Tom Haines.

May be time for change by Durham very soon.

Van der Gugten is a little loose with his first ball and the ball spears down the leg side for four byes.

Seam movement there but the wrong line.

The third ball is again leg side and clipped behind square for four.

150 behind now. Make that 149 as another leg side ball is nudged behind square for one more.

There was a mixed response yesterday to the proposals for restructuring the English domestic season from Sir Andrew Strauss' high performance review team. Here's what the Sussex chair had to say on the subject.

Cricket review plan 'unworkable' says Sussex chief

The chair of Sussex County Cricket Club Jon Filby says the English game's current schedule is "unworkable" but proposed changes are "equally unworkable".

The fifth ball from the Harris over is driven past the bowler for four and du Plooy moves on to 48.

Not a bad ball at all. Just a very well executed shot.

    WICKET Swindells lbw b Roland-Jones 5published at 11:06 British Summer Time 23 September 2022

    Leicestershire 294 & 35-5 v Middlesex 297 & 271

It has taken over half an hour, but Middlesex finally have the breakthrough this morning.

Toby Roland-Jones goes a bit fuller and he crashes into the pads of Harry Swindells. A simple LBW decision.

Roland-Jones has wicket number 63 of the season, and figures of 4-19 in this innings.

Van der Gugten bowls outside off and Madsen leaves. Still no run for Madsen so far today but he hasn't looked troubled.

There it is! The last ball of the over is a bit closer to the bat and Madsen plays as late as possible, carefully steering the ball down to third man for four.

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 51-4

Ben Raine starts a new over and Tom Haines tickles the first delivery down to fine leg for four.

An emphatic pull shot to the mid-wicket boundary takes the Sussex total past 50.

Raine isn't quick enough to bowl that sort of length and is certainly struggling with his rhythm so far this morning.

    Somerset 389 & 337-4 dec v Northants 265

Somerset have thrashed 60 runs in seven overs this morning with Lewis Gregory ending on 29 not out as he clubbed three big sixes around Taunton.

Northants will have a theoretical target of 462 in 87 overs.

    Glamorgan 550-5 dec v Derbys 253 & 131-3 f/o - trail by 166

This has been a quiet start to day four with only occasional balls passing the outside edge of the bat.

Du Plooy ducks underneath a bumper from Harris and then defends length balls, followed by a full toss thereafter into the off side.

He's squared up by the last ball which flies just past the bat to keeper Chris Cooke. Maiden over.

Although ball has beaten bat on occasions, there have been no direct chances.

    Durham 459-7 dec v Sussex 162 & 34-4

James Coles tucks Matthew Potts away for a single.

This is very good experience for the 18-year-old, facing an England bowler when his sole job is to bat time and try to help his team save the game.

Not Bazball, but sometimes there is no option but to be a 'crease hanger'. The deficit is 263.

    Leicestershire 294 & 35-4 v Middlesex 297 & 271

Middlesex are on the attack, as expected, so there is space for runs and Colin Ackermann obliges with a lovely on-drive off Toby Roland-Jones.

As a reminder, the victory target for Leicestershire is 275.

Timm van der Gugten beats du Plooy outside off stump as he withdraws a rather crooked bat at the last moment.

The batter picks up one more run off the fourth ball and Madsen defends.

    Somerset 389 & 311-4 v Northants 265

George Bartlett has slogged 17 off 11 balls but when he tries to plant Jack White over the deep midwicket boundary, he succeeds in picking out Tom Taylor.

Somerset lead by 435, but somehow that is still not enough runs.

Du Plooy gets a single behind square as Harris drifts one into leg stump.

The rest of the over is much straighter and Madsen has yet to add to his overnight score.

Tom Lammonby goes for a big shot and only picks out Tom Taylor at mid-on.

An excellent century for Lammonby, his first of the season, it has come off 242 balls with eight fours.

    Here comes Lewis Gregory.

Timm van der Gugten is a bit wide with his second ball and Madsen leaves outside off.

The bowler straightens up and Madsen can't quite get the ball away.

    Steady start for Debyshire.

They simply need to bat for as long as they can today. Maiden over.

Ben Raine is certainly leaking boundaries in the early overs at the Riverside.

James Coles punches one through mid-wicket but his second of the over is less convincing, running away to square leg from a thick inside edge.

Du Plooy takes a single off the first ball of the Harris over to gully and Madsen defends.

Timm van der Gugten will bowl from the River End. His last ball drifts into leg stump and is clipped in front of square for one.

    He's nicked the strike again.
