  1. Postpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

And that's it for day three!

All eyes will turn to Edgbaston tomorrow to see if Warwickshire can pull off an unlikely victory and send Yorkshire down to Division Two.

Middlesex are all but certain to join Nottinghamshire in Division One next season.

Hope you can join us from 10:15 BST in the morning!

  2. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 258 & 312-0 v Glam 533-9d

What a day on the south coast.

Tom Haines carried his bat for a first-innings 108 as Sussex suffered two mini-collapses in being bowled out for only 258.

Glamorgan then enforced the follow-on with a lead of 275 but have since sent down 53 wicketless overs.

They've been battered by Ali Orr, who takes the close on a career-best 185 not out from only 162 balls, and a second hundred of the day for captain Haines, 121 not out.

Tomorrow could now be an extremely long final day of the season for Glamorgan who cannot be promoted unless Worcestershire produce the greatest miracle in cricket history, trailing Middlesex by 284.

Glamorgan also need to win themselves to stand any chance and that appears most unlikely on this evening's cricket.

  3. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec & 62-2 v Hants 311

Well, the light was clearly dimmer than we thought - because the umpires have just taken a reading and decided to take the players off.

That's it for the day. Warwickshire lead by 23, with Dom Sibley 29 and Alex Davies 16.

The Bears' fate is still in their own hands, provided they can somehow conjure up a means of setting Hampshire a tempting target and bowling them out tomorrow.

  4. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts v Durham 14-2 (Target 577)

The light takes out those final overs in Nottingham and Notts will come back tomorrow needing another seven wickets to seal the Division Two title (David Bedingham is injured).

Earlier on, Dane Paterson and Liam Patterson-White took three wickets each as Durham were whittled out for only 207.

Notts then bizarrely decided to bat again with a lead of 455 and a very strange 30 overs took place waiting for the declaration.

Two wickets tonight has sent Notts on their way.

Free entry tomorrow at Trent Bridge if you fancy some free cricket before the long winter - take us with you on your mobile.

  5. Bears look to build leadpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec & 57-2 v Hants 311

All a bit cagey in these closing stages at Edgbaston - and Hampshire certainly aren't making it easy for the batting side.

James Fuller and Ian Holland are currently toiling away, so no indication just yet that the light will only allow spin.

With that said, the shadows are beginning to lengthen. Warwickshire lead by 18.

  6. wicket

MIDDLESEX ALL OUT AND STUMPSpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Worcs 225 v Middx 509 (Murtagh c Gibbon b Libby 6)

What on earth came over Tim Murtagh?

Always keen to have a good old-fashioned smash, he's blocked back 54 balls here!

Eventually he does have a dip at Jake Libby and is caught at long-on to end the day.

Earlier on, Stevie Eskinazi made 115, and 92 from 121 balls from John Simpson saw their side to maximum batting points.

It now means they will be promoted even if they fail to bowl Worcestershire out again tomorrow.

  7. wicket

WICKET Drissell lbw b Fletcher 6published at 18:00 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts v Durhan 13-2 (Target 577)

A second strike for Notts and big Luke Fletcher has got rid of the nightwatchman George Drissell, whose job was only half done with seven overs to go.

The bomber nips one in, beats the inside edge and traps his man lbw on the front dog.

    Six more overs potentially tonight.

  8. 100 runs

for Tom Hainespublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 258 & 276-0 v Glam 533-9d

His second century in a day!

Andrew Salter is driven past cover to bring Tom Haines another hundred, this in 136 balls with 13 fours.

Sussex have wiped out the deficit with the opening pair.

Ali Orr continues to haul away at the other end, 167 from 142 so far.

  9. Close of play at Derbypublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Derbyshire 568-9 dec v Leicestershire 249 & 131-2

That's also it for the day in this Division Two game.

Leicestershire have made a better fight of it in their second innings, led by Sam Evans' unbeaten 59, but they're still a long way behind. 188 runs to be precise.

  10. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec & 47-2 v Hants 311

In theory, we could have another 12 overs at Edgbaston tonight, though it seems unlikely the light will last that long.

Still, Warwickshire need to extend their slender lead of eight runs and see whether they can somehow set up a target for Hampshire to chase tomorrow.

Dom Sibley is 19 not out, with Alex Davies on 11.

  11. Close of play at Northantspublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Northants 163 v Essex 263 & 63-5

Off for bad light is quickly followed by stumps.

Essex will head into the final day of the season with a lead of 163 and five wickets in hand.

  12. LANCASHIRE BEAT SURREYpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 28 September 2022
    Breaking

Lancashire (512) beat Surrey (209 & 173) by an innings and 130 runs

Matt Parkinson finally breaks a gutsy last-wicket stand by removing Kemar Roach and that's the game done at Old Trafford.

It's a first defeat of the season for Surrey after they secured the title last week.

Lancashire will head into next season with plenty of confidence.

  13. 250 runs

up for Sussexpublished at 17:48 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 258 & 256-0 v Glam 533-9d

A lead of 275 was obviously massive but on a flat pitch there was perhaps a case for Glamorgan to bat again, whack the lead up to 450, and freshen their attack for tomorrow.

Certainly a better case there than at Notts.

Now Glamorgan's route to victory is via a fourth-innings chase.

But at the moment there is no sign of any chase because they're 44 overs into Sussex's second-innings and still wicketless.

    Eight more overs left tonight.

  14. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

They're off for bad light at Northants and Derby. Welcome to late September.

  15. wicket

WICKET Brookes c sub (Prest) b Wheal 0published at 17:44 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec & 33-2 v Hants 311

Warwickshire promoted Henry Brookes in the batting order, presumably to try and accelerate - but the move backfires as he clips Brad Wheal tamely to midwicket without scoring.

Alex Davies is out there to join Dom Sibley, with the Bears still six runs in arrears.

  16. 50 runs

for Toby Roland-Jonespublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Worcs 225 v Middx 497-9

The 15th time in 133 matches that Toby Roland-Jones has passed fifty.

A 58-ball effort here with three fours and three sixes as Middlesex eek out a few more.

They could still win the title tomorrow so it might be worth trying to have a dip at Worcestershire tonight.

  17. wicket

WICKET Yates c Vince b Abbas 15published at 17:40 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec & 30-1 v Hants 311

Sighs of relief greeted the result from Headingley, which means Warwickshire can still stay up if they find a way to beat Hampshire tomorrow.

However, the Bears are still trailing by nine runs and they've just lost their first wicket, with Rob Yates edging Mohammad Abbas to first slip to give the Hampshire seamer his 50th Championship wicket of the season.

  18. wicket

WICKET Dickson c James b Broad 0published at 17:37 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts v Durham 0-1 (Target 577)

Stuart Broad strikes with his second ball!

Sean Dickson is surprised by some lift just outside off, he can't ride the bounce and fends a catch low to third slip.

A second-ball duck for Dickson in his final innings for Durham before joining Somerset.

  19. NOTTS DECLAREpublished at 17:33 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts v Durham 0-0 (Target 577)

Sense has prevailed after a wasted 30 overs and Notts have declared leaving Durham 14 overs tonight.

  20. GLOS BEAT YORKSHIREpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 28 September 2022
    Breaking

    Gloucestershire (190 & 233) beat Yorkshire (183 & 222) by 18 runs

David Payne (Gloucs)Image source, Rex Features

The fairytale ending wasn't to be for Steven Patterson!

The departing Yorkshire skipper cuts David Payne into the hands of Chris Dent at point and that leaves Dom Bess stranded on 79, with Yorkshire 19 short of the target.

It means Gloucestershire finish their campaign with back-to-back wins - and now Yorkshire must wait until tomorrow to find out whether they will accompany them into Division Two.
