    Sussex 250-6 v Glam 533-9d

A maiden first-class fifty in 76 balls for 18-year-old Charlie Tear.

What a lovely moment for the lad.

A number of youngsters have been given their chance by Sussex in recent years, can they bring them through to become established first-teamers?

Second point up for Sussex now.

Duncan Cobbett: Do you think Durham might be tempted to cheekily declare their first inns to prevent Notts getting the bonus point and keep them hanging on a bit longer for confirmation of promotion?

Wow. Surely they couldn't be that cruel!?

  3. wicket

WICKET Donald c Mousley b Brookes 36published at 13:49 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec v Hants 167-6

Henry Brookes has been expensive, going for more than nine an over - but he's made the breakthrough Warwickshire needed.

Aneurin Donald's belligerent knock of 36 from 31 balls comes to an end as he throws the bat again and Dan Mousley takes the catch.

  4. wicket

    WICKET Hill lbw b Singh-Dale 36published at 13:48 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Yorks 69-2 (target 241) v Glos

    Gloucestershire strike through Ajeet Singh-Dale!

The seamer dispatches George Hill with an inswinger that raps him on the pads - and up goes the umpire's finger.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore is the new man in, with Yorkshire needing 172 for victory.

  5. 100 runs

for Tom Hainespublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 241-6 v Glam 533-9d

A second century of the summer for the Sussex captain.

He cuts Tim van der Gugten past point for his 14th four and a punch of the right glove greets his 150-ball century.

It's been another difficult campaign for his young side but some joy for Tom Haines at the end of the season.

Still plenty to do to try and get past the follow-on mark of 384 but he's found superb company in 18-year-old Charlie Tear, playing just his second match, who is on the cusp of a maiden fifty.

  6. wicket

    WICKET Bushnell c Mullaney b Patterson-White 37published at 13:45 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts 662-5d v Durham 183-8

The sun is out at Trent Bridge and it's certainly smiling on Notts who are just one wicket away from confirming promotion now.

Jonathan Bushnell had played well for his 37 but pushes at a ball from left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White that turns gently away from him and edges into the hands of slip.

  8. Notts nearing promotionpublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts 662-5 dec v Durham 164-7

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham have provided little opposition to Notts so far in this innings and will soon be following on after losing five wickets today for 102 runs.

They struggled from the off in this game, after losing the services of bowler Paul Coughlin just before the start. That was due to personal reasons. Notts then made 662-5d, their biggest score against them.

Now they have lost the services of influential batsman David Bedingham as well. He suffered a dislocated shoulder yesterday and can't bat. He is here and has been walking around the ground with his arm in a sling. But that's of little comfort to the other batsmen.

Durham have been hit by injuries and call-ups. It's generally a young squad and it shows.

For the second time this season the gulf between the two sides has been immense. Notts ran through Durham in three days in CLS in April and won by an innings. They are doing the same again today.

They need two more wickets to earn the point which will take them back to Division One, a division they were last in back in 2019.

Stuart Broad, Dane Paterson and Liam Patterson-White have both taken two wickets each. Notts put pressure on Durham from the off, something Durham didn't do with the ball but for the efforts of Matty Potts and Ben Raine.

There are 65 overs left in the day. It is also a lovely, sunny day, so the weather is not an issue.

Unless Durham find some grit and determination this could be over today.

  9. 50 runs

    Warwicks 272-4 dec v Hants 132-5

James Vince (Hampshire)Image source, Rex Features

A half-century for James Vince - and what a way to get there, hooking Henry Brookes for six.

Vince has rattled along at a run a ball and, with the follow-on now avoided, Hampshire have reduced the deficit to 140.

Warwickshire badly need to get him out - and quick.

  10. Postpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Yorks 46-1 (target 241) v Glos

Yorkshire have resumed their pursuit of 241 after lunch at Headingley and George Hill is ticking along nicely on 24 not out.

He drove Zafar Gohar for a straight four to begin the session and followed it up with another boundary off Ajeet Singh-Dale in the next over, bringing the target down to 195.

Victory would confirm Yorkshire's survival and send Warwickshire down to Division Two, irrespective of what happens at Edgbaston.

  11. wicket

WICKET Raine lbw b Paterson 9published at 13:19 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts 662-5d v Durham 155-7

Straight after lunch, Notts take another step towards promotion.

Dane Paterson is round the wicket angling one in and Ben Raine plays across it and struck bang in front.

  12. 'Aggressive counter-attack'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 218-6 v Glamorgan 533-9 dec

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

An aggressive counter-attack from Sussex’s 18 year old wicket-keeper Charlie Tear has held up Glamorgan as he blasted 10 fours, mostly off spinner Ajaz Patel.

Tear and skipper Tom Haines, 85 not out, have halted the slide after Sussex lost five wickets in the first half of the morning session, three in quick succession to seamer James Harris.

Sussex have had to reshuffle their batting order with Tear and Fynn Hudson-Prentice missing yesterday’s play though a sickness bug.

While Glamorgan still have high hopes at Hove, they will not be encouraged by the solid progress of Middlesex’s batsmen at Worcester- where maximum bonus points and a draw for the Londoners would take them up ahead of Glamorgan.

    Kent 492 v Somerset 202 & 19-2

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Emphatically Kent's morning as they added 87 to their overnight 405-7 in quick time, Hamidullah Qadri last out for an enterprising and attractive career-best 87.

Another career-best was Kasey Aldridge's 6-110, a reward for perseverance as much as anything.

Needing 290 just to make Kent bat again, Somerset then lost two early wickets, Andy Umeed and captain Tom Abell, and it will be surprising now if this isn't done and dusted today.

  16. Lunch at Hovepublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Sussex 218-6 v Glam 533-9d

Sussex have steadied themselves to get to lunch still alive in this first innings but they lost three wickets in 11 balls midway through the session to leave a mountain to climb to try and save the follow-on at 384.

Glamorgan doing everything they can at the moment to put pressure on Middlesex.

  17. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Worcs 225 v Middx 260-4

A very solid morning for Middlesex.

They lost Max Holden early on and then Pieter Malan for 93 but John Simpson has skipped away to 41 not out and Stevie Eskinazi is with him on 35.

A chance to grow a big lead this afternoon and bag some more batting points.

  18. Lunch at Edgbastonpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Warwicks 272-4 dec v Hants 122-5

Hampshire need just one run to avoid the follow-on, but it's been very much Warwickshire's morning.

The Bears have bowled superbly to take five wickets, three of them for Liam Norwell and Oliver Hannon-Dalby somehow going wicketless despite a remarkably consistent spell.

But they'll need to get rid of James Vince sharpish - the Hampshire skipper has looked good for his 44 not out so far.

    Lancashire celebrateImage source, Getty Images

Surrey have been bowled out for 209 by Lancashire, conceding a first-innings deficit of 303. Lancashire have enforced the follow-on against the champions.

Essex seamer Ben Allison has just claimed his third Northants wicket to leave them five down. Northants are 115-5 and still trailing by 148.

Somerset have begun their second innings at Kent and already lost a wicket. Andrew Umeed was dismissed by Matt Quinn. They're 15-1 and still a long, long way behind.

  20. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 28 September 2022

    Notts 662-5d v Durham 155-6

An excellent morning for Notts taking quick strides towards promotion.

Very little in their way it seems unless Durham can find some northern grit this afternoon.
