  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.2 overs

    Mujeeb c & b Woakes 0 (Afg 110-8)

ANOTHER very good catch and Afghanistan are crumbling. They have lost three wickets for one run in the space of four balls.

Mujeeb ur Rahman thumps the ball straight back to Chris Woakes who sticks out a hand and the ball just lodges safely in his palm. He makes it look very easy and casual, but in your follow-through they never are.

    England are bossing it.

A disappointed Rashid Khan walks off. He's tearing his gloves off. He's not happy at all.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18 overs

    Rashid c Hales b Curran 0 (Afg 109-7)

Two in two! The short ball works again and Rashid Khan has to go first ball.

He's not happy. It was a tempting short ball from Curran and he took it on, as he should be with two overs to go, but is only able to pick out Alex Hales down at fine leg.

He's furious with himself. Such an important player for Afghanistan and he's got a first baller.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 17.5 overs

    Azmatullah c Stokes b Curran 8 (Afg 109-6)

A simple catch this time, Ben Stokes taking the ball at deep mid-wicket. England continue to dominate.

Azmatullah Omarzai tries to take on Sam Curran into the leg side but smashes it straight into Stokes' hands. He's not dropping that.

  6. Not outpublished at 17.1 overs

    Aggers is good at this.

Pitching outside leg and England lose their review.

    That's pitched outside leg.

  8. England reviewpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 22 October 2022

Sam Curran bowls full and straight and pins Usman Ghani on the pads.

Or does he? The umpire isn't having it but Curran convinces Buttler to go for the review.

A valuable boundary for Afghanistan as Adil Rashid bowls a rare bad ball, dropping too short and allowing Usman Ghani to pull it down to fine leg.

Adil Rashid finishes wicketless, with 32 runs coming from his four overs. He's not bowled badly but Afghanistan have just been much more comfortable against the spin.

    I mean...

As fielding performances so this is sensational. Sports journalists are notoriously hard to please but there were more gasps in the press box after that Buttler grab.

  12. Afg 97-5published at 16 overs

2-23 for Mark Wood from his four overs. How good is it to see him back bowling at his absolute quickest again?

But the fielders have backed up the bowling perfectly. Three absolutely stunning catches from Livingstone, Rashid and Buttler.

Mark Wood's bowling: 13% full, 13% good length and 75% short. 4 overs, 0 maidens, went for 23 runs, took 2 wickets with an economy of 5.75.

Absolutely brilliant. The third outstanding catch we have seen from England. Mark Wood can't quite believe it.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.3 overs

    Nabi c Buttler b Wood 3 (Afg 91-5)

    England, stop it.

Another absolute gem of a catch to get the big wicket of Mohammad Nabi.

Short and fast from Mark Wood, of course, and Nabi is only able to get a glove on it. The ball looks destined for the boundary only for Jos Buttler to leap like a salmon and seize the ball out of nowhere.

Mark Wood is buzzing. That was so good.

It's interesting, a lot of the Afghan batsmen have tried to stay leg side and haven't had any success. I wonder if this isn't the tactic on such a pitch.

One bounce and over the fence. That was powerful.

  18. Afg 89-4published at 15 overs

A nice little flurry towards the end of that over for Afghanistan.

Usman Ghani smashes a four over square leg before he's just denied another by a brilliant piece of work by Chris Jordan running around on the boundary and hauling the ball in just inside the ropes. He does that so often, it looks so simple.

Stokes finishes with 2-19 from four very good overs.
