That's all for now. My colleague Matthew Henry's report from Brisbane can be found here.

We will be back tomorrow morning for what could be a pivotal day in the tournament as Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka before England face New Zealand.

    See you then.

So this is how Group 1 looks.

Australia move into the top two but stay behind New Zealand on net run-rate.

England's run-rate is still superior to Australia's so will overtake them with a win tomorrow.

More from Australia captain Aaron Finch: "It was a good performance. We felt 180 was a decent score on this wicket. We knew we had to lay the foundations early. We couldn't pull the trigger and risk being five down at that 12-13 over mark. So thought we did a really good job."

On Tim David's fitness: "Just a little bit of a hamstring tightness. So was more of a precaution than anything."

On his bowling plans working: "It's nice when it works out like it did tonight. There's a lot of time and planning that goes into some decisions. Every now and then that goes out of the window and you make your own. Sometimes you look good, sometimes you look stupid. So you take the good with the bad in this game as captain."

On England v New Zealand tomorrow: "We will keep an eye on it. It is a big game for both teams. It would have been nice having had Ireland 25-5 to push things forward here but they played brilliantly at the end of the innings."

More from Ireland's Barry McCarthy on his fielding: "At the start I thought it was Row Z and as I got round I thought it was a catch. But it seemed to swirl in the wind a little bit and just kept going. In those circumstances you try and catch the ball first and foremost and then my reactions were just to throw the ball back. It would have been nice if I'd held on to it! We practise it a lot so it is nice to see that coming into the game.

"At the halfway point we felt we had a really good chance of upsetting one of the favourites. If we'd come out of the powerplay a little bit better then who knows.

"We know what we're trying to achieve. we know where we're trying to get to. We've come a long way in the last 10-15 years from being a team who just come to compete. We've shown throughout the tournament that we have matchwinners, both with the bat and ball."

Ireland's Barry McCarthy on BBC Test Match Special: "It is bitterly disappointing in the end to get so close having been 25-5 and it just shows that with a couple of wickets we could have done it. We knew it would be a challenge coming here to play Australia in their own back yard and it certainly was. There was a real opportunity for us to do something special there and we're bitterly disappointed."

On Lorcan Tucker's innings: "It was amazing. He might have surprised a few people but he hasn't surprised anyone in our changing room. Since he's changed his game a little bit and gone to number three he's really shown what he can do. I am just so delighted for him - to see what he can do on the world stage. To showcase his skills and show how good he is against one of the best attacks in the world, I am very pleased for him. The world is his oyster and I hope other people around the world are taking recognition."

On his bowling display: "I'm not sure in what meeting we said we'd drag one down to David Warner and have him caught at short fine leg but that is the funny game that T20 cricket is. We had one short side today, with the wind too, and it could have been a lot worse today. We did a pretty good job in restricting them to what was effectively a par score. I'm just bitterly disappointed that we couldn't target that short boundary towards the end - if we'd needed 20 from an over with a couple of more wickets in hand it might have been possible. Friday is a big game now, there is a lot that we have to do better but we know we've got a big opportunity and who knows."

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie: "It was a hard-fought match, especially the first innings. It could have got away from us but we bowled pretty well, there were a couple of overs that didn't go our way. But we certainly didn't get the start with the bat we wanted. But to show that bit of fight at the end shows we are making progress and keep up with these big teams when given a chance."

On Lorcan Tucker's innings: "We felt that the score was not against us, it was just the wicket column. If someone had stayed in with Lorcan you never know. He has a had a really good World Cup. The pitches suited him. We have one more match on Friday and hopefully he can continue that."

Australia captain and player of the match Aaron Finch: "It wasn't the easiest wicket. It was a lot slower than we thought. Ireland changed their pace well, bowled a lot of cutters and it was hard to get into a rhythm, So getting 180 we were happy with that score.

"I was not feeling the pressure at all. The support I have had from the changing room and coaching staff was unbelievable. You go into the middle and your instinct takes over. T20 is a high-risk game. Sometimes you get it onto the middle early and sometimes you don't."

On his fitness: "I've got a little hammy twinge I think so I will get a scan tomorrow. Unfortunately I've had a history with them so we will see how it goes. It doesn't feel too bad at the moment."

More from Australia's Matthew Wade speaking to BBC Test Match Special: "That [net run-rate] did go out of the window a little bit. We had our chances to win by a bigger margin but we probably didn't take our chances when they came and they probably made us pay a little bit but I was never too worried. I was one over short from the bowlers so that was a little bit stressful!

"Ireland are a quality side though so you can't be thinking about net run-rate too much. We probably didn't take advantage of that tonight though."

On the death bowling: "There was some terrific hitting going on towards the back end of the innings, but there is no doubt we'd like to execute a little bit better. We probably didn't bat well enough at the end of our innings either, we probably got the lower end of what we should have got. It is easy to look at the bowlers when they last out on the mark but we probably left 10-15 runs out on the park with the bat too."

Australia's Matthew Wade speaking to BBC Test Match Special: "I knew if Aaron Finch got injured that I'd take over. We have a lot of strategy meetings so I'm across how we're going to use our bowlers on certain days against certain oppositions. It was pretty seamless out there to be honest, we've got some great guys who can get around with the bowlers. It is quite an easy job to be honest.

"I'm not too sure on the injuries to be honest. Finchy was having some issues with his hamstrings, but I don't know if he was just cramping or if there was something was going on. I didn't even know that Tim David was off the field and Marcus Stoinis felt a little bit stiff after his first over and when he feels like that we know we've got to protect him."

Australia have done a great job of getting themselves back in the tournament. They will have an opportunity against Afghanistan to boost their net run-rate again if they bowl well.

At the end of the day it all depends on what England and New Zealand do tomorrow.

Is this it? Ireland chase a risky single off the first ball. The throw goes into the non-striker's end and Glenn Maxwell whips off the bails.

Australia are celebrating. They are confident about this.

Josh Little does scramble a single but it was the last ball of the over so he retains the strike.

Glenn Maxwell will bowl the 19th over.

It was actually a very good shot but the fielder was a lot straighter than a mid-wicket normally would be. Steve Smith has very safe hands.

Barry McCarthy has absolutely creamed the ball towards the deep mid-wicket boundary. But unfortunately for McCarthy it has gone straight to Steve Smith who takes the catch.
