Right then, after all that excitement, Will Smeed and the Birmingham Phoenix now have to try and win the match.

Southern Brave are the defending champions, the favourites to win it again this year and they have the batting to chase down 177.

This chase should be a lot of fun.

    Thanks, Ffion.

Wow. That really was quite something! The first century in The Hundred and Will Smeed's first hundred of his professional career.

I'd hazard a guess that there is no bad way to score a maiden pro ton but that has to be one of the better ones.

Right, I need to take a breath.

Here's Sam Drury to take you through Southern Brave's chase of 177.

    It should be a cracker.

Birmingham Phoenix centurion Will Smeed: "It sounds nice (to be the first player to score a century in The Hundred). It's a nice wicket as well so nice to be back at Edgbaston.

"It was amazing, you try to put it to the back of your mind when you're in the 90s, I've had a couple of close calls so it was nice to get over the line. Hopefully it's enough to get us the win, that's the main thing.

"I felt a bit scratchy for most of it, to be honest. I mishit a lot of balls but it's small boundaries and a few dropped over in our innings."

On this wicket with the Birmingham attack, with runs on the board. You can never write off the chasing team, but at this moment I think the score is too much for the Brave.

So Will Smeed just did an interview where he said he felt 'scratchy'.

He scored 101 from 49 balls.

The highest total in this year's Hundred so far, but the story goes to Will Smeed.

He's even being applauded by the Southern Brave players.

  12. Phoenix 176-4published at 100 balls

    That is incredible. Absolutely incredible.

101 not out from just 49 balls. Against the defending champions!

We will be seeing a lot more of Will Smeed. What a talent. He absorbs the applause of the Birmingham crowd, what a feeling that must be.

Southern Brave need 177 to win from 100 balls.
