Alice Davidson-Richards seems very superstitious. She's got a lots of quirks and twitches.

She does a lot of bat twizzling and tapping the handle and her gloves and a trot off to the side.

Tap, twizzle, trot, back - there's definitely a rhythm to it.

A tidy over from Mlaba concedes just a single as Alice Davidson-Richards almost plays on to her stumps.

That's probably the only 'chance' she's given. She's looked perfectly at ease upon her return to international cricket.

I can't unhear that now. I'll think of it every time I hear Sune Luus.

Sune Luus' name fits perfectly into the ABBA song 'Voulez-Vous'

    "Sune Luus, a ha"

  6. Eng 179-5published at 65 overs

Spin from both ends as Mlaba continues. Just two from the over, with one coming from a filthy half-tracker. Nat Sciver looks disgusted at the fact that she was only able to take a single from it rather than send it to the stands.

I'd like to see England be a bit more positive with a ball that is 63 overs old. With this spread field they've got the chance to score runs quickly and up to around four an over.

They have a real opportunity and still a lot of time to bat.

  8. Eng 177-5published at 63 overs

    Sciver 56, D-Richards 21

Sune Luus' first over was a bit ropey to say the least but she seems to have settled in to a bit more of a rhythm now.

Her first ball jags past Davidson-Richards' outside edge and just a single comes from the over.

Marizanne Kapp is tucking in to some sweets in the dugout.

If that's the fuel you need for scoring ridiculous 150s, I'm all for it.

Anyway, play is resuming. Sune Luus bowling to Alice Davidson-Richards.

Without any context, that sentence doesn't make much sense.

And I'm afraid I have no context.

But Nat Sciver stood firm and eased England past their follow-on target with a calm, measured 50 from 110 balls.

England will need her to 'do a Kapp' and bat through the innings.

Two further wickets fell as Amy Jones became Nonkululeko Mlaba's first Test victim and Sophia Dunkley nicked Anneke Bosch behind to give the seamer her third wicket.

Bosch has been the pick of the bowlers so far with 3-32.

    Thanks, Sam.

A fine fightback from South Africa. I was concerned after this morning session for their bowling attack - it looked very samey and unthreatening.

But the run out of Heather Knight first ball after lunch set the tone for an enthralling session, although perhaps tilted slightly in the favour of England given that Nat Sciver is still there on 56.

Right, after a highly eventful session it's over to Ffion Wynne to take you through tea and beyond.

I'll join the players in grabbing a brew!

It would make a really interesting Test match and exciting for the women's game if South Africa could bowl out England for a similar score but it's going to be a very interesting and exciting session after tea.

  18. Eng 176-5published at 62 overs

    Sciver 56, Davidson-Richards 20

A much tidier over from Mlaba to end the session. South Africa will be much the happier of the two sides after taking three wickets in the first hour after lunch.

Sciver and Davidson-Richards have dug in since then, adding an unbroken 55 for the sixth wicket. England are 108 runs short of matching South Africa's first innings total.

England have to be careful here with Luus. She's been really inconsistent with her bowling but she is capable of just surprising the batters.

  20. Eng 175-5published at 61 overs

A very handy over for England, nine from it as Luus really struggles to find her length. The fifty partnership between Sciver and Davidson-Richards has also come up now.

We'll have time for one more over before tea.
