Wolvaardt just turned on her heal. She knew.

  2. wicket

    Wolvaardt lbw b Dean 43 (SA 108-5)

That's the big wicket for England! Laura Wolvaardt plays back to Charlie Dean and when she fails to get her bat to it, she is in big trouble.

The umpire's finger goes up and the South Africa opener doesn't even consider a review. Big breakthrough just as South Africa were beginning to gain a bit of momentum.

  3. SA 104-4published at 29 overs

Superb from Brunt again. Her first ball back raps Wolvaardt on the front pad, there is a big appeal from England but it dies down quickly. The ball was sliding down leg.

Wolvaardt gets into a bit of a tangle a couple of balls later, trying to work it leg-side but miscues it - just short of mid-wicket. Close.

England want to halt this South Africa momentum that is starting to build so back comes Katherine Brunt.

  5. SA 102-4published at 28 overs

There has definitely been a change of gears from South Africa in the last few overs - as shown by that six.

The replays show I may have done her a disservice by saying it was a leading edge but it was certainly not the cleanest of strikes. Still, it cleared the ropes comfortably.

Tryon didn't get all of that - but more than enough to clear the ropes!

  7. 6 runs

    SA 100-4published at 27.1 overs

Well, that is quite remarkable. On first viewing, it looks like a leading edge from Chloe Tryon but the ball sails high over long-off for the first six of the day!

  8. SA 94-4published at 27 overs

    Tryon 10, Wolvaardt 41

Four more singles come from Sciver's over, in addition to two for Wolvaardt as she opens the face and guides the ball past backward point.

This is better for South Africa, they've got the scoreboard moving again.

South Africa are lacking a threat at the top of the order, someone who you know that if you miss your mark you know you're going to be punished.

It does feel like that is missing based on today. It feels like it is stifling Laura Wolvaardt too.

  10. SA 88-4published at 26 overs

Charlie Dean is really tossing the ball up and tempting the South Africa batters. They don't take the bait this time around, though.

Instead they choose to milk four singles from the over.

    Thanks, Callum.

There have been a few signs that South Africa are trying to mix things up a bit here, too. Four down already, it might be time for the counter that Anya Shrubsole mentioned.

  12. Postpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 11 July 2022

Time for us to mix it up.

Sam Drury will take you through the remainder of the innings.

I'm really interested to see how Chloe Tryon bats here. I'd quite like to see her look to counter-attack.

Cut sweetly by Tryon, no one is stopping that.

  15. SA 84-4published at 25 overs

    Wolvaardt 35, Tryon 7

Oh, that's nice. Chloe Tryon sticks her bat out, almost like a telescope, and steers Nat Sciver through point for a boundary.

Her and Laura Wolvaardt then exchange singles, before Amy Jones - whose keeping wasn't at its best in the Test but has been spotless so far today - concedes her first bye of the day as Sciver sends down another bouncer.

Sciver has gone from 32 from her five overs so far. She's been expensive in the context of the match.

That was a massive wicket of Marizanne Kapp, she's the form player for South Africa so England will be glad to see the back of her. One more wicket here and England could really restrict South Africa to something that should be easy to chase on this ground.

There are quite a lot of schoolchildren in the ground today and they all seem to be congregated around the ice cream van.

No doubt they'll be in high demand. Imagine the carnage if they run out at some point.

  18. SA 76-4published at 24 overs

Do England want this over so they can watch their counterparts take on Norway in Euro 2022 later? That's on BBC One, with kick-off at 20:00 BST.

If they can limit Laura Wolvaardt there is a genuine chance this game will be done by then.

Just three from Charlie Dean's latest over. England's bowling and fielding has been spot on so far.

An uncharacteristic shot from Kapp. You normally expect her to be patient but she has tried to go over the top and it's a great catch from Cross. That is a massive wicket for England. They will be buoyant.

Great catch from Kate Cross. You felt like something was going to happen.
