    Bowled 'im!

Ben Stokes again struggled to get going and misses with an attempted slog-sweep.

It was perhaps a bit too full for that shot and pushed through quicker by Zampa. Good bowling but a disappointing dismissal for Stokes.

Mark Burt: The Aussie full string bowling attack looks more than useful. That said Stokes can’t use up too many balls. He’s keeping Duckett out the team.

  3. Eng 52-2published at 7.2 overs

Gorgeous again from Malan. His timing and placement on show again as he punches Adam Zampa's second ball through the covers, he barely seemed to hit it but it was four all the way.

  4. Eng 47-2published at 7 overs

Glenn Maxwell into the attack and it's singles all the way from Malan and Stokes. Six of them milked from the off-spinner's over.

    Malan 16, Stokes 3

The good news for England is that they're out of the powerplay only two down. We've all heard the stat about what happens if you lose three wickets in the powerplay in a T20.

You haven't? Basically, lose three wickets in the powerplay and you lose the game.

Australia still well on top, though.

Dawid Malan looks like he has a point to prove after the last game when he was carded at three but came in at seven. We know he is capable of going at a higher strike-rate than we often see and he is proving that this evening.

  8. Eng 40-2published at 5.4 overs

Brilliant timing from Malan and even he's surprised this has gone to the boundary. It was a gentle push but the ball gets past the mid-off fielder, who quickly gives up the chase as the ball races away.

  9. Eng 34-2published at 5 overs

Very good over from Stoinis to start. Just three singles from it.

Mitchell Starc has been held back until now but no longer. The left-armer will bowl the last over of the powerplay.

Robin Johnson: England already well behind. This Aussie attack by far the best in the world. May as well give them the WC now - save everyone the bother.

There was no foot movement from Hales there so he is just trying to play the ball with force from his body and arm movement. England find themselves in a bit of trouble here.

Half-volley from Marcus Stoinis and Alex Hales drills it straight to David Warner at mid-off. Bonus for Australia.

It was little more than a loosener from the all-rounder but rather than make an effort to loft it or keep it along the ground, Hales just whacked it and it went at a nice height for the fielder.

England in a bit of trouble early on. Here comes Ben Stokes.

  14. Eng 31-1published at 4 overs

    Malan 10, Hales 4

Walloped! Shorter from Cummins and Malan pulls it was well outside off and sends the ball high over deep square leg for the first six of the game.

  15. Eng 25-1published at 3.4 overs

    Gorgeous shot from Dawid Malan.

It's a slower ball from Cummins and the England man just waits for it before stroking it through the covers. Elegant, effortless from the left-hander.

That's a brilliant catch from Zampa. Not only has the ball gone so high, it nearly hit the wire of the spider cam. He's got a huge smile on his face.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 3.1 overs

    Buttler c Zampa b Cummins 17 (Eng 21-1)

Well taken in the end by Adam Zampa.

Buttler tries to heave the ball leg side, gets a top edge that goes high and in Zampa's direction at short third.

The fielder is practically dancing on the spot, trying to judge the catch, looks to have got it all wrong before diving forward at the last moment to take an excellent catch.

That's the third time in eight T20 innings that Cummins has dismissed Buttler.

  18. Eng 21-0published at 3 overs

Hales is off the mark with a boundary. Backing away and thumping Hazlewood over extra cover.

    A good over for England.

  19. dropped catch

Buttler dropped on 12published at 2.3 overs

    Eng 16-0

It's very harsh to call this a drop but I'm doing it anyway... Slightly shorter from Hazlewood, Buttler nails the pull shot and Marsh is beaten for pace just in front of square.

The fielder can only tip it over the bar and the ball runs away for four. Very tough chance but a chance nonetheless.

The bounce is troubling both the batters. They just can't get a grip of how the ball is lifting off the surface.
