Sadiq Chikte: I had a dream last night that England made over 450 runs on the first day! Can this happen?

  2. Eng 208-0published at 32.1 overs

This is honestly just like an ODI. The speedy Haris Rauf bangs it in and Ben Duckett just swings away a pull to the fence.

Duckett has 94 now. He's within touching distance of a first Test hundred.

  3. Eng 204-0published at 32 overs

Hello! The ball has beaten bat. It's the first time it has happened all day.

I'm intrigued by all the people who have just woken at 8am in the UK and got quite the fright by the score.

    Crawley 105, Duckett 88

The relief must be flowing out of Zak Crawley's body after surviving being given out on 99.

That was the only chance he has given in this knock. It has been immaculate.

Off comes the helmet. Crawley is beaming.

That's the joint fourth-fastest ton for England. It's the quickest by an opener.

The run map shows Zak Crawley scored 104 with 19 fours, 2 threes, 4 twos, and 14 singles for England

    Crawley 95, Duckett 79

The first over after lunch is bowled by leggie Zahid Mehmood with Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, recalled for his first Test in six years, knocking him around casually.

This pitch is like batting on a Christmas pudding.

Crawley is a hit away from the fastest century by an England opener.

Australia have declared on 598-4 from 152.4 overs.

England would be close to that score today if they continue at this rate.

The XI England have selected has been overshadowed by this roaring start.

Ben Stokes has selected two debutants - Liam Livingstone and Surrey all-rounder Will Jacks.

The start of the match was in doubt a few hours ago because of this virus which has swept through the England camp and the result is Ollie Pope having to keep because Ben Foakes was not well enough to play.

Either way, England have been in the runs.
