  1. Pak 579-9published at 155 overs

Ooh, just wide of Keaton Jennings at short leg!

Haris Rauf fends off a short delivery from Ollie Robinson but it flashes past Jennings before he can react and they run a single.

England respond by bringing in Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett for new batter Mohammad Ali, who has to deal with some fairly hostile short stuff from Robinson.

Pakistan will be happy with what they've achieved this morning. They were scoring runs and that means England will have to bat for longer and that could kill the game.

England were confident from the off and as soon as we saw the replay we knew it was out.

Jacks said at the start of this Test that he was going to be a wicket taker and he's only gone and got himself a five-fer on his Test debut.

Will Jacks is the first England spinner to take five wickets on debut since Adil Rashid in 2016. He is the first finger spinner since Peter Such in 1993.

Mahmood st Pope b Jacks 17 (Pak 576-9)

It is out! And Will Jacks has a five-fer!!

It was very close but the stump cam proved decisive, showing none of Mahmood's foot was behind the line.

The England players rush in to high-five Jacks. Just reward for a long, hard slog in the field.

Ooh, this looks very, very close. Zahid Mahmood's foot is on the line - but is any part of it behind?

  7. Umpire reviewpublished at 06:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

Ollie Pope is quick behind the stumps again as he whips off the bails after Zahid Mahmood misses an attempted reverse sweep.

England seem very confident of the stumping here. The umpires send it upstairs.

  8. Pak 575-8published at 153 overs

Ollie Robinson is doing all he can, banging the ball in to try and unsettle the batters. But the surface is not offering him anything at all.

We have seen a hint of turn for the spinners this morning so that is England's most likely source of wickets.

A stat on how difficult this game has been for bowlers:

The highest total runs in a five-day Test match was during a series in 1968, with West Indies in Australia scoring 1745 runs in total. That's within sight in this game.

  10. drinks break

    Pak 572-8published at 152 overs

Haris Rauf looks like one of those tailenders you cannot take your eyes off. He skips down the track and attempts to hit Will Jacks over the top, though there isn't enough on it and they can only run two.

Rauf then pinches a single to bring Zahid Mahmood on strike, who expertly sweeps to fine leg for four. He looks a more than capable batter.

Time for the first drinks break of the day, with Pakistan now just 85 runs behind.

  11. Pak 565-8published at 151 overs

Ooh, did that come off the bat? I think it did.

Haris Rauf leans back to try and avoid a short Ollie Robinson delivery, but the ball brushes off his bat and flies over the wicketkeeper's head.

A touch of fortune for the new Pakistan batter.

England are crowding Mahmood and then spreading the field for Rauf.

Will Jacks has never taken a five-fer in first-class cricket.

  14. Pak 563-8published at 150 overs

Will Jacks, hunting that fifth wicket, comes around the wicket to Haris Rauf, whose defence looks as solid as Zahid Mahmood.

Just the one slip on for Rauf, compared to half the team coming in for Mahmood.

Ollie Robinson is coming on for England.

I think Stokes is being too loyal to Leach. There are far better spinners out there. Leach has been lucky with his two wickets. His 49 overs (and counting) have had no guile or variation and his length is often far too short. Would much rather have tried the young leggie on tour - couldn’t do any worse! Leach is not international standard.

    (Grumpy, sleep-deprived) Omar, London

Jack Leach's bowling in this innings: 10% full, 89% good length and 1% short. 49 overs, 7 maidens, went for 184 runs, took 2 wickets with an economy of 3.76.
  16. Pak 562-8published at 149 overs

England mixing the field up again. Just two close in for Haris Rauf, but that goes up to six when Zahid Mahmood comes on strike.

That is the perfect way to respond, though. Mahmood just carts Jack Leach away over deep mid-wicket for six.

Haris Rauf is the new batter. England have their tails up again. They will want to wrap this up quickly.

Good catch from Crawley. Jacks was angling the ball and gets the outside edge. That's the wicket England wanted. Pakistan have scored quickly this morning.

A wicket! I haven't seen one in any of the text commentary stints I have done this Test - until now.

It is a smart catch by Zak Crawley at first slip and Will Jacks now has four.
