  1. 50 runs

50 for Agha Salmanpublished at 146.5 overs

Agha Salman opens the face and lofts the ball over the covers for four to bring up his fifty - his second Test half-century in three matches.

He has played very well this morning, stalling the sense of momentum England gained with those late wickets last night.

Surely getting up at 4.40am with a bad back when it's cold to go to the living room to watch the cricket on a Sunday is deserving of a wicket in itself?

  3. Pak 545-7published at 146 overs

Confusion! A rare moment of panic from the Pakistan batters as they attempt a risky single to get Zahid Mahmood off strike for the next over.

Ollie Pope runs, turns and throws, but misses the stumps by inches.

Mahmood would have been out by a distance.

England have created half chances. It's been pretty easy, not only for Salman but also Mahmood, who has no great reputation but is doing well.

  5. Pak 542-7published at 145 overs

Zahid Mahmood doggedly sees off another Jack Leach over. He is looking pretty solid so far.

That's one of the worst umpiring decisions I've seen in a long time.

Yep it was, by a distance.

A bit of a howler by umpire Joel Wilson.

  8. Pakistan reviewpublished at 05:22 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

Agha Salman misses the sweep, the ball cannons into his pads -and the lbw is given!

Salman immediately sends it upstairs. Will Jacks was coming around the wicket and the ball looked to have pitched outside leg.

The body language of the England players suggests that was the case.

  9. Pak 542-7published at 143.4 overs

Chance! That was great anticipation from Joe Root, who read that Agha Salman was going for the reverse sweep and began to move to his right, but the ball flies just wide of his dive.

    Unlucky.

  10. Pak 534-7published at 143 overs

Zahid Mahmood is no bunny though as he blocks out Jack Leach's next over.

There were SIX men around the bat for the final ball.

    England are trying everything.

  11. Pak 534-7published at 142 overs

Agha Salman is in the mood, he has just smacked Will Jacks for back-to-back boundaries.

The first is a charge down the track before a straight drive over mid-on, the second a beautiful reverse sweep down to deep third.

The cat and mouse game continues as the England field comes right up for the final ball after a very lengthy discussion. All part of the mind games?

Salman cuts the ball straight to point for the dot England were looking for.

Change of bowling, here is Will Jacks.

It's looking like a tricky proposition for England this morning, Pakistan have barely missed a ball.

There's a lot of hard work left to do in the field for England.

  14. Pak 526-7published at 141 overs

Agha Salman nicks a single to bring Zahid Mahmood on strike, which prompts England to surround the bat once more - but Mahmood survives. He has looked solid so far.

    He was.

But that is more encouragement for Jack Leach, who is finding a hint of turn on this previously lifeless surface.

  16. Umpire reviewpublished at 05:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2022

Jack Leach beats the outside edge of Agha Salman's bat and it is a smart take from Ollie Pope behind the stumps.

The umpires have sent it upstairs for a possible stumping, though judging by the reaction of the England players he was safely home.

Mild panic this morning. I discovered I'd left my son's Postman Pat lunchbox at the ground last night. Thank goodness it was still here. We'd have been talking new levels of doghouse. Wolfhouse.

Another funky field for James Anderson with a regulation slip, a leg slip and four catchers close in.

Anderson's radar does stray slightly and the ball disappears for four byes.

Zahid Mahmood then uses the pace of Anderson to guide the ball down to third man. Good shot.

Pakistan are gathering steam this morning, though I'm not sure England will mind. They want the game to be played at a fast pace.
