I'm all for positive cricket but if you can't win a Test don't lose it. Declaring to leave 340 in four sessions on a pitch flatter than Holland defies belief. In a Test rammed full of records will we become the first team to lose a Test having made over 600? Madness. Rant over.

If you are just joining us, welcome.

Pakistan have added 89 runs to their overnight score for the loss of just one wicket - Imam Ul-Haq feathering a leg-side delivery from James Anderson through to Ollie Pope.

Pakistan were rocking a bit at the that stage but Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan aggressively attacked England's spinners to accelerate the scoring before the break.

They will return after lunch on 128-3 needing 174 more runs to win.

There's further good news for Pakistan - Azhar Ali is fit to bat despite retiring hurt last night after being hit on the glove.

Totally agree with Allan. This ridiculous declaration has devalued everything that went before. If you can't win a Test match you don't hand it to the opposition who have only have to bat normally to win on this pitch. No carrot involved. The Aussies must be laughing their socks off. Only bad light can save our naivety.

  4. Livingstone out of tour with knee injurypublished at 07:32 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

If you are just joining us there was some bad news from the England camp overnight

Liam Livingstone has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour after the knee injury he suffered in day two.

A huge blow for the Lancashire player, who was making his Test debut in Rawalpindi.

"Insulting Test cricket", no Allan...Test cricket would cease to exist in a few years against the increasing pressure of the short format entertainment. Stokes and his merry men may just keep it alive with this pioneering approach. Who wants a boring draw?!

    Ross. London

This pitch is insulting to Test cricket. Fair play to England for trying to do something about it. Who dares wins Rodney !!

  6. Sciver and Dean star as England thrash West Indiespublished at 07:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2022

England's men may be in a slightly perilous position, but there were no such concerns for the women's side overnight.

They cruised to a comprehensive 143-run win over the West Indies in the first one-day international in Antigua.

Having been put in to bat, Nat Sciver's 90 from 96 balls propelled England to 307-7.

England slipped to 127-4 before a partnership of 102 between Sciver and Danni Wyatt, who made 68, steered the game back in the tourists' favour.

Spinner Charlie Dean then took 4-35 as West Indies slumped to 165 all out with 9.3 overs remaining.

It was an impressive return to the side for Sciver, who took a break from the game after the Commonwealth Games in August, and a first win for England under their new coach, Jon Lewis.

So much negativity this morning! It's as if no one has watched test cricket before - the game can change in two balls no matter what the pitch. 190 to get still, anything can still happen - losing is not a foregone conclusion.

Both Rizwan and Shakeel have batted well, Rizwan in particular. Once the spinners came on he was much more positive. In an anonymous was Shakeel has done a fine job. He was becalmed in the first hour. The wicket will only come from a bit of pressure applied, which is what we got in that first half an hour.

Sorry, Allan @ 6:46, but this isn't insulting Test cricket. You are seeing a culture change. This is saying, forget averages, forget personal statistics and achievements, we are a team and we entertain. Always looking to win. If you want in, you have to be prepared to entertain over your individual stats! I'm in, loving it! Mike G, Chippenham

Yep, England's bold declaration has certainly got you talking. Plenty of your replies to come during the lunch break.

We'll have one more over from James Anderson before the break.

James Anderson's bowling in this innings: 5% full, 63% good length and 32% short. 10 overs, 7 maidens, went for 9 runs, took 1 wickets with an economy of 0.90.

Rizwan isn't put off by the sight of the cling film being lifted from his sandwiches in the dressing room. After nearly offering a catch off Leach he repeats the shot and makes far better connection at the second time of asking.

He puts away a short ball at the end of the over too.

Oliver Camp: If we lose, no one with any winning ambitions could say the declaration came too early. Finding 10 wickets on this pitch takes time. And it's not like we scored too slowly. Still happy with this approach - even with the risk of losing. Better than settling for a draw.

    Target 343

That's making me feel very jealous as I type on a cold morning in Leeds.

Anderson creates the first false shot in a while - Saud Shakeel inside-edging onto pad. The ball loops into the leg side but no fielder can get there in time.
