The birds you can see in Pakistan will be Black Kites. In Australia they are know to spread bush fires with burning branches to flush out prey.

    Elliot, Newport Pagnell

Speaking as a slightly obsessive birder, my money is on the birds of prey around the stadium being Black Kites, or possibly Black-winged Kites, as opposed to Red (which we get in numbers in the UK).

  2. Pak 51-2published at 14 overs

Saud Shakeel is the new batter as the sun starts to set behind the stadium in Multan.

We should play on for a while yet but are unlikely to see a full session.

A wicket maiden for Jack Leach.

There's a fantastic atmosphere here in Multan. They haven't been quietened by the wickets falling. They've just enjoyed the cricket.

Another decision that the umpires have got wrong today. We've seen so many of those.

    Shafique c Pope b Leach 14 (Pak 51-2)

Ultraedge shows a faint edge - the decision is reversed and Abdullah Shafique has to go!

A big wicket for England as Pakistan were starting to gain a bit of momentum here.

There's a huge appeal for caught behind as Jack Leach beats the edge of Abdullah Shafique's bat.

The umpire says no, but Ollie Pope is convinced.

    It is sent upstairs.

There are quite a few birds circling around the ground. We've seen a lot of birds of prey here haven't we? Don't know if there's any prey for them to swoop on but at least they've got a bird's eye view of all the action.

  9. Pak 51-1published at 13 overs

Joe Root coming around the wicket to Babar Azam who helps the ball fine off his pads towards the boundary.

Jack Leach does brilliantly to claw the ball back from the rope - but replays showed his knee was touching the boundary sponge. Unlucky.

Another lovely backfoot push from Babar disappears for another four to end the over.

Mark Wood's short spell is over. Time for Joe Root to have a twirl.

Shafique drives that handsomely and it's going to run away for four. Dancing down and finding the gap to great effect.

He looks the picture of concentration amidst all the noise that's going on here.

  12. Pak 43-1published at 12 overs

Pakistan are picking off the bad balls brilliantly.

A couple of solid defensive strokes from Abdullah Shafique before he leaps onto a fuller delivery from Jack Leach and drives it on the half-volley magnificently through the covers.

I have absolutely no idea what England are going to do in this Test. I like that.

Anyone else getting some flashbacks (to a lesser extent) of our last tour to India? Brilliant win in the first Test, now nothing but dust bowls from here.

That's another lovely shot from Babar Azam as he pushes the ball off the back foot through point for four.

    Babar didn't even start running.

It was hit back hard and the bounce took Wood by surprise. He even got a finger on it but couldn't stop it.

  17. Pak 33-1published at 10.1 overs

That looked effortless from Babar Azam as he pushes the ball back to Mark Wood, who cannot field on his follow through, and it flies away for four.

  18. Pak 29-1published at 10 overs

There's lots of chirping from the four England players around the wicket as Jack Leach bowls his second maiden of the innings.

I suspect Leach will be asked to hold up an end for much of this match.

I've got some news for everybody. Gary Ballance has mutually terminated his contract with Yorkshire and is heading back to Zimbabwe to play international cricket.

South Africa's Mignon du Preez has also announced her retirement from international cricket and it's interesting considering there's a T20 World Cup coming up.
