Things have been pretty sedate so far this morning but it doesn't look like it will stay way for long.

With the ball starting to stay low - a slower ball from Mohammad Ali practically ran along the ground to Rizwan - Stokes takes an almighty swing but the ball comes off the toe-end and straight to mid-off.

He is back in his crease next ball and clips through the leg side for three, Brook gets off the mark with a single but Stokes skips down and heaves through mid-wicket for four. No timing, all muscle.

A 4.45 start is always a tricky choice - bed early or stay up late? I went for the latter option, with the assistance of a box of cider. Rookie mistake or stroke of genius? Time will tell.

It's a good contest between Abrar and Brook but it remains even stevens so far today.

There was an air of desperation about that from Pakistan.

  5. Not outpublished at 51.5 overs

Lots of excitement from Pakistan initially but absolutely nothing on UltraEdge.

It stays not out, Brook - who is yet to score this morning - remains and Pakistan lose a review.

Has Abrar got another one. Mohammad Rizwan thinks Harry Brook has feathered one behind down leg on the sweep.

Given not out but Babar sends it upstairs.

  7. Eng 208-5published at 51 overs

It's not going to be spin at both ends just yet - give it an over or two. Mohammad Ali gets things started at the other end.

Stokes clips the ball square for two and the umpire Dar has a word with him about running on the pitch.

The England captain pinches a quick single and is again told to get off the pitch. No official warning yet.

Theo Bannister: Seeing as this is the only sport we can win a World Cup in, can I at least see Harry Brook destroy some world records in the next few hours?

Abrar is on the money from the off but after three dot balls, Ben Stokes gets England moving for the morning with a reverse sweep for two.

The skipper cuts the next ball to deep point for one and that brings up the fifty partnership.

No alarms for England in the first over of the day.

It's remarkable how far we've gotten in just two days.

Right then, the players are heading back out to the middle and the start of day three is mere moments away.

And, in a shock to absolutely no one, Abrar Ahmed will bowl the first over of the morning.

As you put the kettle on and get yourself settled, let us take a moment to mention Harry Brook and how impressive he has been on this tour.

After making 153 and 87 in the first Test, the Yorkshireman is unbeaten on 74 here - a second Test century is with touching distance.

He has also given England a real dilemma once everyone is back fit. So many good batting options, what a treat. Although, having so many good attacking options doesn't guarantee success as we saw last night...

It was a big day for Jack Leach yesterday as he claimed his 100th Test wicket.

After the game he revealed that he thought his health - Leach suffers from Crohn's disease and contracted sepsis on England's tour of New Zealand in 2019 - would prevent him achieving the milestone.

"There have been definite lows along the way, but it does make it all worth it," he said.

Speaking to Test Match Special, Leach added: "It is amazing to think I have 100 Test wickets. It is a nice little milestone but I just really want to keep winning games with England and let the rest take care of itself.

"I feel I am getting better and better in Test cricket. I feel I am learning all the time."

England will start day three on 202-5, a lead of 281, and the way this pitch is playing, that might already be enough.

However, with so much time left in the game, the away side will bat on and have Harry Brook and Ben Stokes at the crease as they aim to stretch that lead.

How will they approach it? It was all relatively 'normal' Test cricket yesterday. By which I mean England scored at 4.12 runs an over rather than going at six or seven!

  16. Welcomepublished at 04:30 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2022

Morning all! After two excellent days for England in Multan, Ben Stokes' side are in complete control of the second Test.

Could today be the day they clinch a first Test series win in Pakistan since 2001? There is plenty of work still to do but given how quickly things have moved along in this match, there is every chance.

Play begins in 15 minutes' time.
