  2. 'I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat' - Ahmedpublished at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2022

Rehan Ahmed speaking to Sky Sports: "The day before, Stokes called me to his room with Baz and told me I was making my debut. I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat. I didn't expect to play.

"I think I rushed a little bit at first. It came out better than expected though. I know I got a few boundaries. Stokesy said to me I don't care about runs, I care about wickets, and in the second spell I got some wickets.

"I have been bowling at left-handers all my life. My brother bats left-handed. It's what I always do to him, bowl a googly bowl a leg-break, hope he nicks it."

The scoreboard suggests this is a very even and tight game. It's going to be a fast game.

I cannot see England doing anything else than what they have been.

  4. First wicket a 'magical' momentpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2022

England bowler Stuart Broad speaking to Sky Sports about Rehan Ahmed's debut: "It's awesome. Ahmed's bowled two great balls to get his Test poles.

"He started off a bit nervous, as you'd expect as he's not got a huge bank of experience and a lot of players start off a bit wobbly in Test cricket. He was handled well and came back well.

"It's a magical moment when you pick up any Test wicket, let alone your first.

"As the day went on he got better and better."

Ahmed was bowling on a pitch that was very testing. He struggled in his first spell. He was a bit anxious but his second spell had more life and accuracy and his dismissal of Shakeel was one of the genuine dismissals of innings.

Two terrific wickets for him and he got better and better as the day got on. He looks excellent.

  6. How Rehan Ahmed's first day played outpublished at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2022

The day may well be remembered, though, for Rehan Ahmed's debut.

The 18-year-old leg-spinner, who became the youngest man to play a Test for England, improved significantly after a nervy start.

His first five overs cost 37 runs but he was transformed after lunch.

The Leicestershire spinner beat Saud Shakeel with a googly and the very next ball had him caught at short leg off an inside edge.

Later on he settled into an impressive spell and had out Faheem Ashraf lbw with another perfect googly.

  8. 'Pakistan should've got more'published at 12:41 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2022

Another breathless day of cricket and England will be very pleased because they like to eliminate the draw.

There were moments you thought Pakistan will get more than 400 with Babar at the crease. That run out was crucial, he was cruising along. There was just a bit more happening as the day progressed. At Multan the pitch didn't change in character. There's more of a chance of it disintegrating.

England aren't dominating but Pakistan should've got more.

It feels like a very long time ago that Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat. At that point they'd have been hoping for more than the 304 they managed.

England just chipped away, with a helping hand from Pakistan.

Babar Azam looked serene for his 78 before he was run out - one of a series of soft dismissals.

That wicket just evened the day up. It had been very much England's day up until then.

England are a very confident bunch at the moment and rightfully so, they are playing amazing cricket.

It was a shame for Crawley and it's hard when you go to your teammate and they know you're out.

    And that is the close.

England did well to dismiss Pakistan on a flat pitch but that wicket of Zak Crawley has just taken the shine off the day.

After all that it has pitched outside leg stump.

  16. Pakistan reviewpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2022

Drama! On what should be the last ball of the day, Babar Azam has called for a review.

It was Duckett who missed a sweep.

  17. Eng 7-1published at 2.4 overs

    Two balls to go...

  18. Eng 5-1published at 2.2 overs

So it's Abrar to Duckett, who must just be desperate for these few deliveries to pass by without alarm.

If England are clever this will be the last over.

  19. Eng 5-1published at 2 overs

That one didn't spin. It would have missed leg stump.

A light meter has emerged between overs. Play will end anyway at 12:30 GMT.

Huuuuuge appeal for lbw by Nauman!
