For what it's worth I'd pick Jonny Bairstow's incredible heroics on the final day of the Trent Bridge Test against New Zealand or the World Cup semi-final thrashing of India as my highlights of England's year.

We are indeed going to see Ben Stokes bowl for the first time since the first Test.

    Thanks Tom.

I can see Ben Stokes doing some warm-up exercises but it'll be Jack Leach to start us off after tea.

Given how badly 2022 started for England, it turned out to quite an incredible year. It could yet end with a series clean sweep as well.

The players are back out for the afternoon session with this Test match delicately poised.

Here to take you through to tea isMatthew Henry.

506-4 in a day? I still can't believe they did it. In 75 overs! It is the culmination of what they have been trying to do this year. There were four hundreds on the first day - Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook.

    It showed England's intent.

That game exemplified how far ahead of the game of T20 England are and how far behind India are. India scored 60-odd in the first 10 overs and Hardik Pandya plundered 60 in the last five. It was never going to be enough.

It was a good final but destroying India in such a comprehensive way - 10 wickets and four overs to spare - was the highlight. It should be a wake-up call for Indian cricket.

My highlight of the year has been watching all the pundits eating their words after "bazball" was introduced to the Test arena. While it is still early days and may yet fail, what a year of exciting cricket we have been introduced to. Test cricket has become cool again, even youngsters are talking about it! Can't be bad surely.

It was the moment that has left the sourest of sour tastes in my mouth. We are picking good things but that was the one thing where I was disappointed for cricket as a whole.

The only way Deepti Sharma thought she could win that game was a run-out at the non-striker's end.

If we are going to see it implemented more in more in cricket then the rules need to better.

This is more to exemplify new England. It exemplified that nothing was impossible. England were 55-6 - doomed. Jamie Overton came out to bat with Jonny Bairstow and we thought they could possibly save the follow-on but they put on 241.

Overton played brilliantly. I could easily have picked Bairstow. But to put on 241 on debut, it showed nothing was impossible.

    It was an amazing turnaround.

After Joe Root stepped down England didn't have a captain or coach. McCullum was a real bolt from the blue. He turned up to his first interview in skinny jeans without any socks. Instantly you knew this was going to be different.

McCullum and Stokes have brought the fun to England's cricket.

Another mention would be to Anya Shrubsole in the rain in Auckland to keep England in the World Cup. Or the most memorable would be England and South Africa at the Oval when cricket almost led the tributes to the Queen.

Bairstow has arguably been a key figure in how this England team has been played. He played a lot of the landmark innings.

His century against Australia in Sydney was a huge turning point. He had six centuries in his previous 79 Tests and three years without reaching 60. This was an outstanding innings against a high quality attack in a difficult match situation.

Bairstow came in at three down with fewer then 60 runs on board and scored a hundred. He repeated that in four of his other five hundreds this year. That had only happened four times for England in the previous 12 years.

The innings in Sydney, which helped England get a draw, uncorked this dormant talent in Test cricket.

I have picked two moments where all seemed to be lost.

It seems so long ago England lost 9-52 at Hobart. Ollie Robinson could barely be located at the edge of the pitch.

Then in March England went to the Caribbean and lost. The whole thing seemed to be a car crash. I remember speaking to Joe Root and how drained he looked.

I was thinking how possibly could English cricket be rebuilt from this point. From that wreckage so much has happened since.

It has been a remarkable turnaround and realising how far England have come is why I am choosing them.

It was Pakistan's session, apart from that 10 minutes where they lost three wickets. Thereafter it was very sedate but a recovery of sorts with the two best batsman of Pakistan, Babar and Shakeel.

  19. Lunch - Pak 99-3published at 33 overs

    Pakistan lead by 49

After that aggressive stroke in the last over Saud Shakeel is taking no risks this time as he blocks out Mark Wood to see Pakistan through to lunch.

Pakistan have added 78 runs this morning but those three quick wickets from Jack Leach means England are probably just in front, with the hosts effectively 49-3.

  20. Pak 99-3published at 32 overs

    Pakistan lead by 49

Saud Shakeel skips down the track and looks to launch Jack Leach over his head. It isn't quite timed though and a fielder is able to fielder before it goes over the boundary and Pakistan run two.

Some fine fielding from Ollie Robinson in the covers saved what looked like a certain four.

It looks like we will squeeze one more over in before lunch.
